Orange Sequin Dress – Extra Extra!

It’s my birthday, I can wear what I want to! Even if it means I will be the most over-dressed woman in the restaurant times 20. But the older I get, the less I care! I am unapologetically me and I am “extra” and I know it! So about this orange sequin dress…

People (I am specifically talking about those who like to dress up) often gripe about the fashion in San Francisco. This quirky town is infamously referred to as, “sweatshirt city.” There are a lot of folks walking around in their lululemon gear and sneakers. But we also live somewhere where the general populous is very health-conscious and active. I am ok with that! But what I appreciate even more is that when it comes to fashion, “anything goes.” Remember, this is also the city where a group of men ride their bikes and jog Bay to Breakers NAKED. I kid you not. A girl in a bright orange sequin dress is nothin’!

Last month when I spoke briefly with Avril Graham, Fashion and Beauty Editor of Harper’z Bazaar, she asked me what I thought about the fashion scene in San Francisco. I told her I liked it because it is easy to stand out! And you do not need a bright orange sequin dress to do it. When everyone else is dressed casually and you roll in wearing high heels and statement earrings, you will be noticed. I do not feel the same pressure to look a certain way as I do in NY or LA – thank goodness! When I first tried on this dress for Jonathan, he said I would need to save it for a gala or something. SURPRISE! At least he won’t loose sight of his dinner date.

Happy birthday, Kelsey! You totally nailed SF style – it’s full of individualism. It may be sweatshirt city, but it doesn’t mean that sweatshirt isn’t a sequined one 😉 have a great time celebrating with a lil too much champagne! xx Shannon • http://www.essellesse.com
