This holiday season I challenge you to stand out from the crowd. Make it a goal to wear something unique and a little bit out of your comfort zone. It is so easy to fall for the whole sequin dress thing, but that is what everyone else tends to do. For your shopping convenience, I am compiling the ultimate holiday shopping guide. Don’t get me wrong. I love sequins. Honestly, I love all things that sparkle! But before you grab the sequin dress, consider sequin shoes instead. Glitzy shoes have the same effect yet they are unexpected. But fancy feet are not for everyone. Work the sequins in via a purse or earrings instead!

When has a suit ever been unacceptable?! NEVER…knock ’em dead at the holiday party in this metallic pants suit. Pair it with a black cami and killer earrings, or glitter sandals and a low bun. It is all about balance when you style statement pieces.

New York Fashion Week Day One: BaubleBar HQ

That’s a wrap! My third consecutive fashion week is one for the books. It’s safe to say third time is a charm. Technically, New York Fashion Week goes until Wednesday, but it is time for me to get “back to life back to reality.” From day one my schedule was jam packed with events and I loved every minute of it. It never ceases to amaze me that there is a week designed just for fashionistas like me. And let me tell you, there are a lot of them!

The highlights of my day were shooting blog pics with Laurel Creative and visiting Baublebar HQ! If you’ve been following me for a while, then you know that I never leave the house without jewelry. It was an unforgettable experience getting to meet the team face-to-face. The office was chic and inviting and obviously the baubles were fantastic. Fashion Forecast: Color is the new black. Tassels, drop earrings, and pom poms of nearly every hue are in style and ready to wear. On the other end of the spectrum, it’s still fashionable to mix dainty strands with your statement pieces. Maybe I’ll get into that trend, but in my book, go big or go home!

Now about the outfit…or should I say, LSU Golden Girl uniform (insert laughing emoji). There is no better time to break out your most glamorous item than to visit Baublebar HQ! This sequin stunner looks like something you would see on the red carpet. But enough about the top – the pants are equally killer. Plus, you can dress them so many ways for the fall. I am thinking chunky crop sweaters or long sleeve bodysuits. Now it is only appropriate to rock BaubleBar jewelry inside of BB HQ. Luckily the Mely Ball Drop earrings matched my outfit perfectly. For under $100 you too can own this look. What are you waiting for?!

Side Slit Jeans and Sheer Lace Top

2017 is denim’s best year yet. But before we go there, let’s take a minute to reflect on the evolution of jeans. It all began in the late 1800s when Levis Strauss teamed up with the tailor Jacob Davis to craft a pair of durable “work pants.” Who knew decades later they’d become one of the most commonly worn garments in history?! Over the years we’ve witnessed this classic pant change with the times – for better and for worse. Fast forward to 2017 and “mom jeans” are back in style and the more rips in your pants the better. But it doesn’t stop there. Over the next few weeks I will be showcasing the latest and greatest in jeans and how you can go about styling them. Today we’ll cover the side slit jean trend.

Across the board, unfinished hens are IN. From rips, fringes, high-low hems, to slits, you name it it’s out there. Today we feature side slit jeans from the one and only Storets. I am in love with this trend because it is a comfortable alternative to dress pants. If you didn’t see the back pockets, you could easily mistake these stunners for a pair of powder blue slacks! That’s the kind of versatility I always look for.

When styling trendy jeans it’s important to consider their level of fancy. For example, destroyed or distressed jeans are casual. Pearl embellished jeans are dressy. In this case, side slit jeans fall right in between. Fancy is my middle name so I paired these bottoms with a sheer crop top. As you can see, I could literally swap the jeans for dress pants and the outfit would have the same affect! Next time I’ll go down the casual route and pair them with an embellished tee and mules or fishnet stockings and pumps during the fall. What is your favorite denim trend this year?! Aveda Essentials Product Review

If you follow me on Instagram, then this topic may sound familiar. If you don’t follow me yet, then consider this reason number 9,999 to do so! Ever since I was a little girl I’ve been hair obsessed. Let’s just say, when I’m having a bad hair day, I am NOT a happy camper! In the age of curling wands and ombré hairstyles, having a reliable haircare regime has never been more important. Throughout the years I have used Aveda products to protect my hair from heat and so fourth, so to say I was excited about the new Aveda Essentials kit is an understatement.

Smooth Infusion Style Prep Smoother:

I do not brush my hair often. In fact, I often joke that I brush GG’s hair more frequently than my own! It’s totally my fault, but as a result, it’s tangly after I wash it. The style prep smoother not only prevents fly aways, but it untangles my hair before I dry it.

Phomollient Styling Foam:

This is my favorite product thus far. I have fine hair, and it takes a lot to produce volume. I am not a “teaser” so this is the next best thing. I can literally see my roots lift after running the rolling brush through my hair just once. Total game changer!

Smooth Infusion Nourishing Style Cream

The style cream works wonders in conjunction with the prep smoother. Fortunately the humidity is very minimal in San Francisco, so I do not need a dual shield on the reg. When I visit friends and family in Louisiana you can bet this item will come along with me!

Air Control Hair Spray:

I am a girly girl at heart – I play with my hair all the time. I do not like that crusty or stiff hair feeling that so many hairsprays leave you with. The air control hair spray is light yet effective. I use it when I curl my hair first thing in the morning and know I won’t have time for a fixer upper. Yay for bouncy curls all day long!

Thickening Tonic:

The thickening tonic would be great solution for folks with thin hair. I have fine strands, but a lot of ’em! While this might sound like a lot of steps and product to get a shiny mane, please note you do not have to use them all together to achieve desired results.All in all, I give the Aveda Essentials package two thumbs up!

Puerto Vallarta Attire: Cutout Romper

Puerto Vallarta is HOT. Believe it or not, my hair was freshly curled right before this shoot. We photographed six complete looks and this was the first. Maybe the curls held for three minutes before transforming into a frizzy mess?! Consider this your warning: pack light (literally and figuratively) when you travel to PV during the summer.

When I was a student at LSU, I managed the one and only Rode’o Boutique. This Baton Rouge hotspot is magazine material and deserves a spot on Rodeo Drive. Whether you’re a young professional, student, or new mom, it’s nearly impossible to leave the store without a bag full of goodies. When prepping for my trip, I had a feeling Rode’o would have something suitable for the tropics. After all, the Louisiana heat and humidity is “impressive.” Sure enough, the Viviana Romper was the perfect addition to my Puerto Vallarta attire.

Cut out garments are great in tropical climates. They have the same affect as cracking a window in a steamy room! Hopefully the photos do this thing justice The print reminds me of a beautiful acrylic painting. I am not sure what I like more, the vibrant hues or the playful fit! Regardless, I wore this little number to a rooftop dinner at Hacienda San Angel. There we celebrated my parent’s 45th Wedding Anniversary. For this happy occasion, I dressed it with rose gold sandals and matching tassel earrings. But what’s really special about this romper is that it can go from beach to dinner. For a daytime look, I’d swap the heels for flip-flops and throw my hair in a bun. There’s no point in fighting the humidity…clearly!

Play Kardashian for the Day in this Outfit

Whether or not you agree with their lifestyle, the Kardashian sisters are style icons. I would literally wear every ensemble Kourtney Kardashian owns. Her taste is spot on. Some of my favorite looks of hers feature high waisted garments and crop tops. However, with a trip to Vegas around the corner, I’m already dreaming up “going out” outfits. Today’s looks is my attempt to dress like a Kardashian for the day with this Kim-esque ensemble.

Bodysuits are hot garments for the summer. But as I alluded to in this post, finding one that fits well and is comfortable is another story! When they fit correctly, they are both sexy and chic. I love dressing a bodysuit with boyfriend denim and skirts. They lay so perfectly underneath fitted and loose garments a like. One of my biggest pet peeves is excess bulk underneath a bodycon garment.

There is nothing crisper than neutrals on neutrals during the summer months. When I found this beige bodysuit at Current Clothing, I knew it would be perfect with my new rose gold heels. I love the plunging neckline and strappy back. I paired it with a white fitted midi skirt. This length can be hard to wear when you’re ~~blessed~~ with a petite frame. If you are in the same boat, always ravitate towards high waisted midis. This one is high rise and features a back slit. Both details help with the height issue! Due to my love affair with rose gold, I took advantage of the opportunity to wear tassel statement earrings and matching sunnies. Fun Fact, Jonathan discovered these sunglasses for me. Who knew he could play the role of personal shopper too?!

Mixed Prints – it’s a Thing Now

Mixing prints used to be a fashion faux pas. Nowadays, however, celebrities and America’s favorite fashionistas alike, are pairing contrasting prints like there is no tomorrow. Whether it is stripes and polka dots or florals and plaid, it is totally a “thing” now.

If you want to get your feet wet before breaking out the checks and dots, then hear me out! A great way to experiment with contrasting separates is to start with a stand-out accessory. This could be a pair of bold shoes, a purse, or in this case, sunglasses. When I came across these sunnies at Ambiance, I instantly fell in love. No they are not the most practical pair that I own, but they sure will make a statement when I rock ’em. Rather than styling these fun frames with a solid top or dress, I went for my favorite blue striped boyfriend shirt and white cut-off shorts. How did I arrive at this configuration? I was going for the mixed prints look but in a more subtle fashion. Within the geometric pattern of the sunglasses, blue is very prevalent and the reason I paired them with a blue striped shirt! To pull in another prevailing color, I embellished the look with bright pink pumps, and a matching floppy hat. Finally, to incorporate more of the geometric pattern, I polished off the outfit with a similar multi-colored clutch purse. How’s that for a mixed prints beginner run?!

The White Textured Shirt

Last Thursday I had the pleasure of attending a pop-up shop for the launch of Nichole Ciotti‘s fabulous collection for the London brand, Kingdom & State. Hosted by Liv Fashion Boutique, attendees had the opportunity to shop the new styles as well as mingle with Nichole herself, Tan the brand’s head designer, and other Bay Area bloggers. I feel very fortunate that such events take place routinely in San Francisco, and even more fortunate have discovered this lovely line!

No way was I leaving without a couple of new pieces, one of which was this amazing white top. You can never have enough white tops. But just like I alluded to last Friday, if you’re going to add another “basic” to your wardrobe, you might as well add one with a twist. This charming Textured Pleat Top is full of ’em! Appear effortlessly chic thanks to the structured fit, and high neck line. For the big debut, I hit the San Fran streets in stonewash distressed denim and added a pop of color with bright pink pumps and lips. I further accessorized with a black and white plaid clutch wallet, and a dramatic pair of bedazzled earrings, and for the first time ever on KK and GG, I styled my hair in a full bun. It was the right decision – the earrings and shirt are too good to run the risk of covering them up.

It was a good week for frequent Cow Hollow/Marina district shoppers! Sugarfina, the elite candy boutique opened its doors at 1837 Union Street. From sugar gummy lips, to martini olive almonds, to candy cocktails, if you’re looking for the finest assortment of sugar confections, this is your spot. While my hubby was very impressed with the single malt scotch cordials, I was pretty much drooling over the chocolate toasted hazelnuts that I may or may not have polished off after this shoot.
