Valentine’s Day Attire: Sweetheart Midi Dress

I’ll be the first to admit that Valentine’s Day is the definition of a “Hallmark Holiday.” I do not mean to brag, but it is sort of like V-Day 365 days a year in the Kaplan household! But it doesn’t really matter what I think because everyone else is gearing up for the big day. You have probably already noticed all of the greeting cards, candies, and balloons filling the shelves at every big box retailer.

So how should one dress for the day of love? It all depends on how you will be spending the “holiday,” of course! For dinner and a movie, consider jeans a bodysuit. Work in a pop of pink with a sassy lipstick or a colorful shoe. Just make sure you have enough room in your ensemble for a bag of popcorn! For a romantic night on the town, spice things up in a sweetheart midi dress. I am always looking for an excuse to rock a killer outfit (precisely the reason I am overdressed wherever I go)! To me, Valentine’s Day is just a fun opportunity to wear all the pink and red in my closet.

Gone are the days of bodycon minis…hello sweetheart midi dress! This hot little number from ASOS is the perfect compromise. It “skims” in all the right places, but the length hits below the knee. It is all about balance when you dress in a racy garment! The ultra stretchy fabric provides comfort and easy movability – two very desirable properties. Although the dress is loud enough on its own, I could not pass up the opportunity to tote my new lips clutch. Wish List Wednesday: Summer Splurge

If you have been following me for a while then you know by now that contemporary women’s fashions at an affordable price point is my niche. I do not believe that you have to spend an arm and a leg on designer clothes to look good. Plus, I would rather have three of something than one $150 item. But every now and then it is very tempting to splurge on a sharp looking dress, or fabulous pair of shoes, and sometimes we cannot resist those temptations. It’s ok – it happens to everyone! Today’s wish list consists of a few splurge items…although none of these items would leave me homeless, they are a bit more than I typically spend on a piece.

The Summer Nights Jumpsuit is not your average jumper. This stunner is crafted out of 100% silk and will have heads turnin’! The navy and peach floral design is so unique and makes for a suitable combo during the summer and fall months alike. I am swooning over the thigh high slits and ultra low cut back. I’ve already noticed it restocked a couple of times. Act soon before it is gone.

You already know how I feel about little black dresses…you cannot own enough of them! If you have a formal occasion coming up, this LBD may fit the bill. The lace ruffled mermaid gown features the ever popular off-the-shoulder neckline and fit and flare silhouette. This beaut hits at all the right places – snag one up before they’re all gone.

Before you roll your eyes because I am presenting you with yet another set of matching coordinates, hear me out. Some Free People is Better than No Free People

Clothes can have sentimental value. As silly as it sounds, sometimes it is just too hard to part with the dress you wore the night of your rehearsal dinner, or the outfit you wore the day you were hired for your dream job. Six Octobers ago, I rocked this Free People dress on my first date with my future hubby. Now, every anniversary of our first date, I break out this little number in an attempt to relive a monumental night. There’s nothing wrong with re-wearing the same piece over and over again, but if you’re going to do it, keep it up with the times.

Back in 2009, I wore this dress solo, with my hair long and straight, a nude lip, and a pair of peep-toe booties. Fast-forward to October 2015, and I completely transformed the look with a faux fur stole from Bebe. This simple addition not only fancied up the look, but it brought out the peacock design on the bodice of the dress. I further switched things up by incorporating black Stuart Weitzman over-the-knee boots. Minis and OTK boots is totally a thing this season, so this combo helped me refreshen the ensemble to current clothing standards! I polished off the look with a high ponytail and some glitzy earrings from Jest Jewels.

Think twice before you give that special article of clothing away. Chances are it’ll come back in style and you’ll be able to spruce it up with the latest and greatest in fashionable finds.

Tie Dye is no Longer for T-Shirts

Tie dye has officially made a comeback and it is showing up in many shapes and forms. Chances are it is being displayed at your favorite boutique as we speak! I found my high-low draped top at Liv Fashion Boutique’s San Francisco location. When something’s hot, Liv is the spot!

I am a huge fan of black and brown prints, so there was no way I was leaving the store without this hot number. Although this shirt could easily be dressed down with a pair of black skinny jeans and cognac boots, I decided to style this piece as a date night outfit.

To go along with the Bohemian trend, I added a beaded headband to this ensemble (it’s amazing what some beads or sequins can do!). Not wanting to compete with the busy pattern, I simply layered the draped top over a fitted black cami and threw on a pair of Bebe “wet leggings” (similar here). To complete this nighttime look, I paired it with black patent leather pumps and a timeless black Gucci bag
