The Over the Knee Boot Craze

While some fads come and go, others become staples – earning that special place in your wardrobe year after year. This my friends is what has become of the over the knee boot! If you’ve been eyeing a pair for a while now, I am here to tell you it’s a smart investment to make. This style shoe is here to stay and it is hotter than ever.

Leg Coverage

One of the reasons I gravitate towards OTK boots is because they are a good compromise between too much leg and pantyhose. Maybe you want to rock a mini dress (as seen here) but you do not want to introduce another texture, stockings for example, into the mix. An over the knee boot will provide you with that moderate coverage. The same goes for short shorts and mini skirts as demonstrated in the featured look.

Chic Appeal

It is no secret that wearing a pair of OTK boots will up your chic appeal about 100%! But don’t take my word for it, just scroll through #overthekneeboots on Instagram and see for yourself. Today’s ensemble would have been far less dramatic without the shoes. Ain’t nobody got time for that!

Practical

Over the knee boots come in many colors, heel heights, and fabrics. I guess you can call them a “practical purchase!” Fashionistas world wide are wearing flat OTK boots with leggings and jeans, heeled OTK boots with dresses and skirts, and vice versa. Textures range from soft suede, brushed leather, to shiny metallic. Go ahead, splurge on a few pairs…I won’t judge you! Stay tuned to see how I styled my red suede OTK boots on Thursday.

YSL Dress for a Special Occasion

Three years ago, my hubby and I were in LA for a business trip. It was my first time to Southern California so we hit all of the major hotspots. Rodeo Drive was one of them! We ended up in Saint Laurent after they strategically invited GG, our Shih Tzu, inside. We couldn’t leave the store without buying something, so my hubby gifted me with this YSL dress! This was not the first or the last time GG instigated an unplanned purchase…

There is something to be said about designer ready to wear clothing. Not only are the quality and fit exceptional, but the service should be as well. The salesperson took one look at me and pulled this dress off of the rack. How did he know that it was just my taste and that it would fit me like a glove?! When I tried it on I was immediately impressed with how well the princess seams shaped my figure and how gracefully the bell sleeves hung. But most of all, the COLOR. The rich teal silk drapes like flowing water. Hopefully these photos do it justice!

Anyway, last Sunday was our five year wedding anniversary, and I wore this YSL dress to commemorate the occasion. Although I bought it in 2013, it never gets old getting dolled up in this beauty – I wear it differently each time. I took a page out of my cousin’s playbook, and accessorized with a fashion turban. I felt so chic! I added a touch of gold with a vintage leaf brooch and Chanel earrings. Needless to say, I fit in perfectly at the rooftop bistro where we dined. Always remember, when in LA, the more drama the better!

If you’re in the downtown LA area, I highly recommend Perch LA for a romantic meal and The Varnish for an after dinner cocktail. P.S. order the truffle fries…

Bell Sleeves

One of the many perks of having a friend who is a store owner is that you get the inside scoop on the season’s hottest fashion trends. When Nancy of Current Clothing returned from market she said, “bell sleeves is the new off the shoulder!” That is fine with me because I love all things 70’s.

It sounds ridiculous but decorative sleeves can instantly transform an ensemble from good to great! This skirt and top combination would have been far less interesting if it weren’t for the oversized sleeves. The same goes for this pom pom shirt and this tassel hem dress. Catch my drift?!

With September quickly approaching, I am slowly but surely working fall hues into my daily attire. The transitional period between summer and fall is a tricky outfit period. You do not want to dress too summery and bright, but it is still too warm to deck out in full fall weather garb. Try swapping out your blue denim for green. Or your platform sandals for suede peep toe booties.

Taking a page out of my own book, I styled this lace top with olive ripped jeans. I polished off the look with blush cutout sandals, a choker, and a bedazzled clutch purse. With an easy shoe switch and lightweight jacket, however, this outfit is autumn ready! Get your bell sleeves on!

Bell Sleeves and Stripes

When it comes to the details, the more drama the better. This is especially true with regards to the finishing touches of a fashionable ensemble. Whether you resort to statement jewelry, striking shoes, or bell sleeves, they all accomplish the same thing.

Yes! Another shirt to add to my wardrobe of dresses, rompers, skirts, and jumpsuits. When I first laid eyes on this top, 1970’s fashions immediately came to mind. The bell sleeves are oh so groovy and the serene color is perfect for the spring. Aside from it’s funky features, the fit is tailored and flattering on all shapes and sizes. For only $50 have yourself a fabulous piece that will coordinate well with flare jeans, palazzo pants, cutoff shorts, etcetera.

I paired this blue beauty with a woven skirt creating a fun throwback look! The multicolor pattern reminds me of retro upholstery and the frayed hem adds a playful element. I’ve said it before and I will say it again, when you are working with a statement piece, such as this top, simplicity is key. That is why I did not go overboard with accessories. I simply embellished the look with a boho tassel necklace and blue denim wedge sandals. Is it ironic that I have the song, “shake your groove thing” stuck in my head as I am writing this?!
