It’s not fair to generalize when discussing white garments. Just like any other color, there are slight variations in shades of white. Think about your complexion and choose a contrasting hue. If you have fair skin, go for an off-white or ivory. If you’re tan, the whiter the better.

Silhouette

The shape of the garment is an important factor to consider when you’re working with white. If you have an hourglass figure, avoid shapeless dresses. Instead, gravitate towards dresses that accentuate your upper or lower half. If you’re pear shaped, consider an off the shoulder neckline and an a-line skirt. For rectangular shaped figures, create feminine lines with a halter neckline or fitted bodice.

Length

The length of the dress sets the tone for the occasion. Think of a bride stunning her guests as she walks down the aisle in a floor length gown. Well, a mini dress is flirty and fun, and appropriate for a summer night soirée. A midi length dress is chic and elegant, suitable for a daytime affair.
