Start with Black

When styled correctly, cropped denim can be very flattering. But, if you are on the fence about this new trend, start with basic black! Black jeans are slimming, flattering, and easy to style. I opted for a fringe hem pair.

Wear Booties

Take advantage of the opportunity to show off your new booties…without cuffing your jeans! Honestly, that is what I am the most excited about. I do not remember the last time I bought a pair of pants without having to hem them. I bought this embroidered bootie from Sole Society and receive endless compliments every time I wear it. It would be a shame to hide shoes like this underneath full length flare leg pants!

Shake things up

When you are experimenting with a new style, don’t be afraid to shake things up a bit. I accomplished this with accessories and a plaid jacket. Statement belts are also trending. You have probably already noticed your favorite fashionistas buckling up in chunky belts. Hop on the bandwagon! Finally, Consider topping your ensemble with a contrasting jacket or coat. Mixing prints is a great way to jazz things up and a black and white pattern is a safe choice.

This basic B&W top screams me! The fabric is lightweight and resilient (no need to worry about wrinkles), while the ruffle trim adds just enough feminine flair. I took an edgy route, styling this top with black accents. I was looking for an excuse to wear my new choker – yes, you heard me! Although you are probably thinking, “A choker? Not for me…” I felt the same way at first. With the right additions, however, a choker can be just as elegant as you are!

Add soft touches throughout your choker ensemble. Think a classic handbag, a pink lip, or a ladylike hairstyle. The dynamic duo, Kristin and Lindsay, at The Red Chair Salon, hooked me up with a cascading side french braid. I am a huge fan of this hairdo because it is polished and chic but not over the top. If you’re ready to give the choker trend a try, take my advice and pair one with an off the shoulder shirt. Let me know what you think!

This dynamic duo is currently on sale at H&M for under $40. No that is not a typo! It was love at first sight when I laid eyes on this stunner. The black and white embroidery is just gorgeous and the fit is even better. The ultra high waist slims your frame at the right spot then tapers down into a flowing skirt. Maybe it is the riverside setting, but these matching coordinates might just be my all-time favorite.

I styled this look very simply. I wanted to keep the black and white theme going on so I laced up my knee-high gladiators and toted a beaded bucket bag. The embroidery on the purse is just different enough than on the top, that it creates an aesthetically appealing contrast and dimension. I rocked wood jewelry with this ensemble…it just seemed to go and natural wood is a neutral hue in my book.

I used to think full skirts were cute, but not for me. I had the same opinion about midi length skirts until I met the perfect pink dress last year. Anyway, after trying a black one on during my Louisiana tour, I have a new found appreciation for them.

There are a couple of factors to consider before committing to a circle skirt. The first being the color. If you have a baby shower or ladies luncheon on the calendar, I suggest a floral or pastel – something cheery. If you have a business gathering to attend, stick to basic black.

Speaking of business, when it’s the right length, a full skirt is acceptable work attire. Go for a midi length and you will get two for the price of one! I styled this black beauty for a night on the town with a fitted white tank and strappy green sandals. Had I been attending a work meeting, I would have paired it with a tailored bodysuit.

I accessorized with dainty feminine jewels, including a pair of blue rhinestone earrings, and polished off the look with a black and white snakeskin clutch. What do you think? Will you be adding a circle skirt to your Spring 2016 it list?!

With obligatory sequined ensembles already in the line up, all that is left to plan are those in between. Target never fails to offer a wonderful assortment of chic designs at very affordable prices. This printed sweater dress, by Xhilaration, is great for a weekend brunch! The fit and flare silhouette is ultra flattering, while the mini length is ideal for over the knee boots. Wear it solo or pair it with a sherpa jacket! This ivory one was only $39 and is truly the coziest piece of outerwear in my closet. Although the dress and jacket are a dynamic duo, I took the look to the next level with pearl jewelry and a fuschia hat. It is hard to resist a pop of color.

Who would have thought that a mesh panel would be our (short legged folks’) saving grace?! I sure didn’t before trying on this faux leather mesh-paneled skirt. The peek-a-boo panel prevents your legs from appearing cut off, all while creating an edgy look and feel. On the other hand, you do not want your mesh to come off as tacky…style it with caution. I sweetened up the look with a black and white tie-neck blouse – the bow adds a touch of sophistication. Polishing off the look with dainty pearl jewelry and a classic Gucci purse, helped me further balance out the playful see-through detail.

This ivory bowknot blouse will transform your workday ensemble, yet it is versatile enough to wear when you’re off the clock too. Rock this blouse two ways: sleeveless, or draped off-the-shoulder. In the outfit pictured above, I wore it draped off-the-shoulder and tucked it into a pencil skirt. Sticking to classics, I accessorized with black and white shoes and black tassel earrings. Although I am happy how it turned out, next time I’ll pair it with vegan leather gauchos for an edgy look, or top it with a black cropped blazer when bare shoulders are a no no.

A note about this blouse…available in one size only, and a $10.05 price tag, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality and fit. No it does not compare to your Alice and Olivia tops, but the price is right and I agree with the size chart – recommended for size xs-m. Happy Shopping!
