A Crop and a Midi

If you have not yet read my post The White Textured Shirt, then head on over there to get some background info, before you continue reading this post. Anyway, with a busy month coming up, and many social functions already on the calendar, it is time for me to start planning outfits. The minute my hubby sends me an iCal invite, my mind begins to roll with outfit ideas. Planning ahead will undoubtedly save you time, but it will also alleviate stress. Coordinating outfits should be anything but an aggravating experience so don’t let it come to that. Meet my new favorite Wrap Skirt from Nichole Ciotti’s collection for the one and only Kingdom & State!

I had the hardest time finding an ivory or white crop top that would do this skirt justice. When you are working with a gorgeous statement piece like this wrap skirt, you cannot just throw on a cotton-knit sleeveless shirt and call it a day. While it took a little bit of digging, when I came across the Nyella Banded Bra Top at BCBG, I knew it was a winner! I love how clean cut it looks yet the banded crisscross front and the cutout lower back add just enough edge. Although feeling a bit bashful with an exposed midsection, I had to get over it. You can still look elegant in a crop top – it just has to be paired with the right bottom. According to the KK and GG handbook, as long as your bellybutton is concealed, and your lower half is suited up in a lady-like garment, you have nothing to worry about. In this case, the ultra feminine silhouette of the skirt and the charming periwinkle hue balanced out the fit of the top. Anyway, I accessorized the look with a pink and blue necklace, pearl rings, and blue lace-up shoes. I polished off the ensemble with a gold box clutch and a bright pink lip.

The Chambray Shirt for Spring

I often talk about neutrals and the benefits of incorporating versatile pieces into your wardrobe. But let’s get real, there is nothing more versatile than a pair of white shorts…dress ’em up or down with the right accessories. Excited to break out a pair of white cuffed shorts for the first time this season, I have a feeling I’ll be “setting them and forgetting them” after the next few months!

For years I’ve been successful at finding a modest pair of shorts at Express. The signature 4.5 inch belted cuffed shorts are offered in a variety of colors and the longer length makes them suitable for many occasions. Tuck a chiffon blouse into these shorts and fasten them with a metallic leather belt, or pair them with your favorite cotton top and adorn yourself in jewelry. In the ensemble below I went the second route. If you do not yet own a button down chambray shirt, get on it! These shirts can play the role of a light jacket or a blouse. For the look below, I chose to dress up my chambray shirt with a beaded statement necklace. Sticking with blue tones, I further accessorized with lace up powder blue high heels.
