Happy Hump Day, friends! I cannot believe it is already Wednesday. I am in a particularly good mood because my oldest friend is arriving to San Francisco tonight, and I get her all to myself for the next few days :). Rode’o Boutique Online

Once upon a time I became friendly with a clothing boutique owner, Tonya, in Connecticut, close to where I grew up. Heading off to college in Miami, FL, shortly after, I would routinely visit her shop on holiday breaks. There was no other place like it (so I thought) and I would return to school with a new semester wardrobe that no one else could replicate. After completing my sophomore year, I changed my major to Fashion Merchandising, but there was one problem… FIU did not have a merchandising major.

After a lot of research and contemplation, I decided to transfer to LSU, in Baton Rouge, LA where there was an accredited fashion program. Carrying on with my life in CT the summer before I started, I visited Tonya to share my news. What are the chances that her sister owned a similar store in Baton Rouge close to the university?! I was in complete shock, but really excited at the same time. Tonya introduced me to her sister, Shanna, upon my arrival to LSU, and we were friends ever since.

I worked as a sales associate in Shanna’s store, Rode’o Boutique, for two years before becoming the manager. It was there that I became comfortable styling looks for others and where my passion for fashion truly took off. But more importantly, I formed a network of friends and “family” for myself in a place where I did not know a soul. My husband and I always joke that when we left Baton Rouge for San Francisco, I knew more people in the city than he did, and he was born and raised in Louisiana!

Wish List Wednesday: Purse Round Up

If you need to justify another purse purchase, consider this post the green light. You can never own enough handbags. Not only are they the very place we store some of our most prized possessions, but they are a very important component of our outfits. On this Wish List Wednesday I am rounding up a few I am currently swooning over.

You all know by now that I love a versatile piece. The Fancy a Fringe black sequin clutch from lulus sure is one of ’em. This envelope clutch emits boho vibes with a twist. Featuring woven black and brown fabric embellished in sequins, the tassel trim is the icing on the cake. Wishing I had had this for yesterday’s little black dress!

Boho Vibes

According to the KK and GG handbook, it is just as important to own a reliable colorful/playful dress as it is a classic LBD. Call off the search…it is my pleasure to introduce you to the Frill of the Chase dress in chartreuse! This cheerful shift is flattering for many body types and suitable for virtually any occasion.

Finally pulling the trigger, after eying this little number for several weeks, I am happy to report it was well worth the $40 price tag (thanks for that lulu*s!). The loose fit is great for warm weather, while the drop waist and ruffle hem add just enough oomph! If chartreuse isn’t on your hot list, be the Frill of the Chase in coral instead. Although you could accomplish some strong boho vibes with flat shoes and a funky purse, I broke out my favorite Fringly sandals, and gold headpiece for a boho chic look. How’d I do?!

Get Your Fest On

Festival season is quickly approaching and there is no better time to start collecting your festival must-haves. This week as I played around with the latest inventory at Liv Fashion Boutique, a pair of wide leg pants caught my eye. If you’ve signed yourself up to stand around all day in the sun, then you might as well be comfortable and cool while you’re doing it! Invest in a pair of light weight wide-leg pants. There is nothing worse than a pair of shorts that ride up every step you take. A well-fitting pair of pants will stay in place, and if they are palazzos, they won’t stick to you either. In the ensemble below, I styled these pants with a black racerback tank and an open front chiffon cardigan. I always like to have a little something over my shoulders in case it is breezy. I accessorized with a mini cognac purse (who wants to schlep around with a large bag when you can squeeze your essentials into a smaller one) and a matching orange and navy pendant necklace. The second look is my favorite. Up until now, this burnt orange fringe vest hung in my closet, with the tags still attached, for at least two years. I got really excited when I realized it would match these pants. Anyway, rather than throwing on a simple v-neck t-shirt to go with it, I wanted to try something different. At first contemplating over a chambray or white button up, I decided on a sleeveless tuxedo shirt – also several years old. Boy am I glad I held onto these pieces for so long. By incorporating the collared shirt and a straw hat I was able to add a touch of sophistication to this bohemian look.

Chic Boho

I don’t know about you, but I am the worst when it comes to buying tops. For whatever reason, I am more likely to leave the store with a pair of pants, a dress, or a funky jacket, versus a top or two. So when I do get with the program and actually purchase one, I make sure it is versatile. When I came across this shirt, I was immediately drawn to it. First of all, the color is super easy to match with – you might as well call it a neutral. Second of all, its boxy silhouette lends itself to pair nicely with any jean style whether or not they’re full length or shorts. Third of all, I love the chic boho design – I have a thing for fringe these days, but lace fringe takes it to a whole new level!

I first styled the “I. Madeline Pearly Dewdrops Drop Light Peach Top” with dark boyfriend jeans. Wanting this look to be happy hour appropriate, I wore a pair of bedazzled chandelier earrings, a metallic clutch and woven heels. If you want to keep it casual, simply exchange the earrings for some gold studs, sling on your everyday purse and slip into your favorite flats. Leopard print would add a fun twist.

After the first run through, in boyfriend jeans, I decided this whole boho theme could go on further with some flare jeans. This time, I rocked a pair of statement earrings, the same metallic clutch and nude pumps. Like I said before, because this shirt is easy to match, it would look great with virtually any color denim, in skinny leg, bootcut, wide leg, you name it. I’m looking forward to the warm weekend weather so that I can try it out with some cut-offs and cognac boots. If it turns out good enough, I’ll snap a pic!
