I cannot paint a pretty picture with a brush, but I can create a pretty cool outfit mixing contrasting colors. Tip: consider the family, not the hue. Do not waste time fixating on the “perfect” shade of red, or the “right” shade of green. Remember, if it’s in the same color family, the colors are complimentary. In this case, vermilion and chartreuse. Commonly known as red and green, no one questions whether or not Christmas colors! Catch my drift? Hopefully photos do this chartreuse top justice. I am not sure what I love more: the bubble sleeves or the floral embroidery. Regardless, this stunner is under $40 and will not last very long.

Colored denim > than blue denim. Ok fine, maybe that is a little bit aggresive. But I think we can all agree that a bright pair of jeans will have more heads turnin’ than a traditional pair of dungarees! These flame red hot pants are only $60 and will effortlessly “spice” up your wardrobe. Aside from their vibrant flair, they have proven to be quite versatile. If you follow me on Instagram, than you may recall when I wore them with a white sweater and brocade slides. Fast forward a couple of weeks and here I am styling them with a chartreuse top. Score! Now the looks are all there, but how do they fit? Like a dream…if you’re petite like me. It’s a rare occasion that I buy jeans without making a trip to the tailor. These pants are ankle length…right out of the box. I’m also impressed with the stretch factor. I love mom jeans, but homegirl has muscular thighs. The more stretch the better.

This butterfly print handkerchief blouse made my heart flutter! I am in love with all things chartreuse, but the peplum waist and darling print had me sold. Blue denim would also work, but I wanted to get another wear out of my white pair before retiring them for the winter. I chose a skinny leg to balance out the fit and flare silhouette, and polished off the look with a pink hat and matching lip. This shirt genuinely fits me like a glove. If I can have custom made clothing at an affordable price, so can you!

Begin by identifying the focal point of the ensemble. In this case the chartreuse shirt is the main focus. After that, think complimentary colors (opposites on the color wheel) to help you choose a contrasting hue. Although chartreuse is not on the color wheel, yellow is, so I went with turquoise, a shade of blue.

Next, embellish the look with a bold print. Be sure to pick a pattern inclusive of both the focus color, and the complimentary color. I chose an infinity scarf to dress up the top, but a purse would have had a similar effect. Take it one step further with jewelry, like the turquoise earrings and ring pictured here.

Finally, incorporate neutral accents to ensure a polished look. In this instance I paired this top with gray jeans to avoid introducing yet another shade of blue into the mix. I followed suit by wearing simple nude pumps, and toting a tan purse.

The a-line silhouette is a personal favorite. Naturally, I was excited when I found this corduroy a-line skirt, as it is in a fabulous fall hue and it reminds me of the denim skirt that I showcased here.
