Express is a great place to shop if you often alter your clothes. Most pants are instock in sizes 00-18, and available in petite, short, regular, and tall lengths. Apparently I do not disclose my height often enough because when I met my blogger friends in person they all said, “you are so petite – you look taller in your photos.” So, I am shouting it from the rooftops, I am 5 feet tall and the tailor is my bff. No really though, I need to learn how to hem my own clothes!

When you shop for destroyed girlfriend jeans look for a cotton and spandex blend. You need the stretch or they will continue to rip as you wear them. I remember demolishing a pair of Free People jean shorts because my foot got stuck in the tears as I pulled them on. Always size down. Even if you think there is no way that you could fit a smaller size, just do it. I ordered three pairs of these jeans before getting the size right. They are referred to as “girlfriend” fit for a reason. Ideally you want them to be slightly roomy in the hips yet flattering on your figure. For the warm September days where long pants are not an option, your denim skirt will become a life saver. Whether it’s an aline button up (as seen here), a maxi, or a distressed mini, they will all have the same affect. I chose the latter for today’s post.

Now that you’re a proud owner of a denim skirt, how do you dress it? One way to do it is to layer. Consider topping sleeveless outerwear over your fall hues. In this look, I layered a faux fur vest over a sheer cropped top. The top kept me cool, while the vest added a nice autumn touch.

Another way to rock a jean skirt right now is to pair it with a lightweight top. In the featured look I styled a distressed mini with a surplice sweater. The cross front top has fall vibes all over it, while the skirt kept me nice and cool. I polished off the ensemble with a choker (if you do not yet own one, hop to it!) and lace up sandals. Lace ups are great transitional item because they’re an alternative to a closed toe bootie. Happy Tuesday!

It is no secret that I am a lover of all things blush. When I came across the “Style Education Blush Pink Blouse, from lulus, it was a no brainer. The ultra feminine silhouette is complimented nicely by the necktie detail, and it pairs well with black or denim. I chose the latter and styled it with distressed denim. It sounds ridiculous but decorative sleeves can instantly transform an ensemble from good to great! This skirt and top combination would have been far less interesting if it weren’t for the oversized sleeves. The same goes for this pom pom shirt and this tassel hem dress. Catch my drift?!

With September quickly approaching, I am slowly but surely working fall hues into my daily attire. The transitional period between summer and fall is a tricky outfit period. You do not want to dress too summery and bright, but it is still too warm to deck out in full fall weather garb. Try swapping out your blue denim for green. Or your platform sandals for suede peep toe booties.

Taking a page out of my own book, I styled this lace top with olive ripped jeans. I polished off the look with blush cutout sandals, a choker, and a bedazzled clutch purse. With an easy shoe switch and lightweight jacket, however, this outfit is autumn ready! Get your bell sleeves on!

Shirt with a Twist

Dresses, skirts, and jumpsuits are far more interesting than tops and jeans, if you ask me. That is why I have a sorry collection of the latter two. When I do purchase a top however, I always make sure it has funk factor. Maybe it has an off the shoulder neckline, or a peplum shape, catch my drift?! In this case, the pictured shirt is oversized and features a back slit detail.

Complimentary Jeans

When styling a boxy top, you really only have two options: skinny denim or skinny distressed denim. It is always a good idea to balance out an ensemble with an oversized upper half with fitted bottoms. There is something so aesthetically pleasing about neutrals on neutrals. That is why I paired this tan top with crisp white denim.

Layering Jewelry

Take your chic casual look to the next level with your favorite jewels. In this instance, less is NOT more. I layered with simple gold to compliment the neutral hues and wooden embellished Chanel purse. It’s amazing how the addition of a long necklace actually draws attention to the choker – that was not a typo, chokers are the “new” but old thing.

I am not good about buying tops. I don’t know about you, but for me, it is easier to justify a skirt or dress splurge than a plain top purchase. The only problem with this mentality is that when I just want to “throw on” a shirt and jeans, it’s slim pickings in my closet. So, starting today, I am putting an end to this nonsense and stocking up on shirts! The Hang Time Tee is a great option for fashionistas like me who have a thing against basic t-shirts. It functions like a standard scoop neck, yet the slim fit is figure flattering and the knot detail will add just enough oomph to your casual chic ensemble.
