Cropped Jeans: The Petite Girl’s Favorite Fashion Hack

Being petite and being creative go hand in hand. Not necessarily in an artsy fashion…rather in a resourceful fashion. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve used double-side tape for a quick hem job, or temporarily shortened the straps on a cami with safety pins. Moral of the story: a petite girl has gotta do what a petite girl has gotta do. While it seems SO obvious that cropped pants would solve the length issue for people like me, the reality of it is that cropped pants simply did not exist in the past. Well, crying over spilled milk is not going to get us anywhere. Today I’m offering you a solution to your #shortpeopleproblems. Buy yourself cropped jeans, and buy yourself a lot of ’em!

Today we showcase cropped flare jeans from Charlotte Russe. They are just as functional as they are cute. Featuring a mid-rise waist and stretch fabric design, these cropped jeans are suitable for breakfast or happy hour. I know I am not the only woman who sometimes “fluffs up” her jeans in the dryer mid-wear. Well, I am happy to report that they did not stretch out or bag at the knees after breakfast or the bar. I am not sure that I can say more about a pair of cropped jeans that are under $50 other than, you should buy them!

So how do you style cropped jeans, you may ask? The answer is rather simple: the same way you dress a full length pair! With the embroidery craze in full affect, consider topping your fall ensemble with an embellished item like this. This moto style jacket effortlessly adds a feminine touch to your edgy ensemble. Everyday Wear

I’ve said it once, and I am saying it again; stock up on shirts while they are on sale. It is so easy to gravitate towards dresses and skirts but tops are extremely versatile. 1 reminds me of vacation! The hues are so happy and the bubble sleeves are so 2017. You already know my stance on cropped denim so consider 4 a wardrobe staple. Free People apparel doesn’t go on sale often. Take advantage of it while you can.

Swimwear

Bikinis are a thing of the past. The one-piece is the new two-piece and I’m ok with it. How about this hot little peplum suit (9)?! I never new a solid black bathing suit could be so sharp. On the other end of the spectrum, 8 is a playful take on an oldie but a goodie: camoflauge!

Accessories

In my book, investing in accessories is always a good idea. They have the ability to transform an ok outfit into a fashion masterpiece. I have no doubt x would accomplish just that. Globe earrings (13) are trending but this is the first multicolor pair to catch my eye. If you’re going to splurge on a unique summer item, consider this wooden purse (11). I love it because it reminds me of a modern day basket bag.

Cropped Denim: The New “It” Thing

Whether you like it or not, cropped denim is the new “it” thing. It is amazing how much a fashion staple like blue jeans evolve over time. Sometimes for better and sometimes for worse. So how do you wear this style? Allow me to explain.

Start with Black

When styled correctly, cropped denim can be very flattering. But, if you are on the fence about this new trend, start with basic black! Black jeans are slimming, flattering, and easy to style. I opted for a fringe hem pair.

Wear Booties

Take advantage of the opportunity to show off your new booties…without cuffing your jeans! Honestly, that is what I am the most excited about. I do not remember the last time I bought a pair of pants without having to hem them. I bought this embroidered bootie from Sole Society and receive endless compliments every time I wear it. It would be a shame to hide shoes like this underneath full length flare leg pants!

Shake things up

When you are experimenting with a new style, don’t be afraid to shake things up a bit. I accomplished this with accessories and a plaid jacket. Statement belts are also trending. You have probably already noticed your favorite fashionistas buckling up in chunky belts. Hop on the bandwagon! Finally, Consider topping your ensemble with a contrasting jacket or coat. Mixing prints is a great way to jazz things up and a black and white pattern is a safe choice.

When in Vegas

When you live in San Francisco, you become a weather snob. Although it is a common misconception that it’s always cloudy in the Bay Area, I strongly disagree…90 % of the time it is 65 degrees and gorgeous. With that being said, anything under 65 we’re all bundled up in down jackets and anything over 65 we’re all complaining about the “heat!” So when a San Fran brat travels to Las Vegas, it’s only natural to think: stay cool!

Not every outfit for the strip has to be a racy one. If you’re going to bother packing jeans, do yourself a favor and make it a cropped pair. Style them with an airy top. In the ensemble below, I started out with a light weight beige shirt and a pair of denim shorts. As you can see in the photos below, the shirt features a surplice back, and it really did help keep me comfortable temperature-wise. During the evening hours, I swapped out the shorts for some distressed stonewashed cropped jeans. For shoes, I went with my fringe sandals and adorned myself my favorite “Ambi” gray-tone jewels and metallic clutch that you already saw in my last Lilly Pulitzer for Target post. If it’s not broken don’t fix it…same goes for your favorite accessories!
