Not Just Any Night

Jonathan and I joke that it is date year at the Kaplan household. We are always together. But what makes DATE NIGHT different from any other night is that we sit inside and experience the ambiance and decor (sorry GG!). It sounds ridiculous but we dine on so many dog-friendly patios we hardly ever enter the establishment. Extra Extra!

Please tell me I am not the only one who has a stash of clothes and accessories that are “too pretty to wear?!” Consider date night an excuse to break out the sequins, feathers, or pearl studded attire. Over the course of nine years, Jonathan has gifted me emerald jewelry. Some of the world’s finest emeralds come from Colombia; it is like I am wearing a piece of my heritage when I adorn myself with “emeraldas.” I save my green baubles for special occasions and dressing in them still makes me giddy!

The beautiful metallic jacquard dazzles in the light and the sweeping full skirt is fit for a queen. Outfit planning is my jam and ideally I like to plan them per the occasion. It makes for a smarter shopping experience. Otherwise, it is like going to the grocery store on an empty stomach! Catch my drift? Although I do not have an event to wear this to, some things are too good to pass up. This peony skirt is of them! The photos do not do it justice. The beautiful metallic jacquard dazzles in the light and the sweeping full skirt is fit for a queen. Good thing my birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks!

As with any statement piece, you do not want to compete with it. I stuck to my own rules and dressed in black accents. The waist is high cut so a bodysuit or crop top is what I recommend. I chose the latter and topped it with a faux fur black stole. This pretty little thing is the only memory I have of my 21st birthday and almost a decade later it is still in style! I completed the look with ladylike accessories, pearls and regal black gloves. Now I will patiently await my invitation to the tea party…or maybe I should go ahead and plan one myself!

Back in 2009, I wore this dress solo, with my hair long and straight, a nude lip, and a pair of peep-toe booties. Fast-forward to October 2015, and I completely transformed the look with a faux fur stole from Bebe. This simple addition not only fancied up the look, but it brought out the peacock design on the bodice of the dress. I further switched things up by incorporating black Stuart Weitzman over-the-knee boots. Minis and OTK boots is totally a thing this season, so this combo helped me refreshen the ensemble to current clothing standards! I polished off the look with a high ponytail and some glitzy earrings from Jest Jewels.
