I’ve said it once, and I am saying it again; stock up on shirts while they are on sale. It is so easy to gravitate towards dresses and skirts but tops are extremely versatile. 1 reminds me of vacation! The hues are so happy and the bubble sleeves are so 2017. You already know my stance on cropped denim so consider 4 a wardrobe staple. Free People apparel doesn’t go on sale often. Take advantage of it while you can.

Swimwear

Bikinis are a thing of the past. The one-piece is the new two-piece and I’m ok with it. How about this hot little peplum suit (9)?! I never new a solid black bathing suit could be so sharp. On the other end of the spectrum, 8 is a playful take on an oldie but a goodie: camoflauge!

Accessories

In my book, investing in accessories is always a good idea. They have the ability to transform an ok outfit into a fashion masterpiece. I have no doubt x would accomplish just that. Globe earrings (13) are trending but this is the first multicolor pair to catch my eye. If you’re going to splurge on a unique summer item, consider this wooden purse (11). I love it because it reminds me of a modern day basket bag.

As you can probably imagine, everyone there was dressed to kill! Itching to wear my Stuart Weitzman Troika Boots for the first time, I showed up in a Free People mini dress. You can always count on FP for well-made and unique items. I adored the retro silhouette and bold pattern. The keyhole neckline was just right and the length was perfect for a shortie like me (I’m five feet)! I accessorized minimally with gold earrings and a matching watch.

A word about my undergarments…while this is one of my all time favorite pieces, it does require special undergarments. The keyhole is cut just right that no matter what your bra line will show. I overcame this “issue” by wearing a navy blue bralette. Also, although some refer to this item as a “dress,” including me, to average height folks it would probably be best described as a tunic. To compensate for the thin shirt-like fabric, I wore Maidenform shorts underneath.

You cannot visit good ol’ Canton without a trip to Collinsville. Whether you’re grabbing a bite at LaSalle, or you’re out for a jaunt along the walking trail, this downtown area epitomizes the phrase, “Small Town USA.” Obviously I needed a picturesque outfit to go along with the picturesque setting! That is where the eyelash lace comes to play. Eyelash lace is very regal. This fine fabric has become a popular embellishment, and brands like For Love & Lemons and Free People often resort to this adornment. When I tried this look on for my mom she said, “Free People could put a tag on this and sell it as theirs!” She would be correct minus the hefty price tag. This set is barely over $40! Who’s excited?!

This ensemble makes a statement in and of itself. Not only is it a majestic look, but the fit is worth discussing! If you are looking for a way to instantly elongate the appearance of your legs, this skirt will do it. The built-in short shorts and sheer maxi skirt overlay will give you the boost you’ve always admired. Five inch heels won’t hurt either…I kept the accessories to a minimum because I did not want to take away from the overall look. I am already looking forward to rocking this outfit in the California sunshine.

Free People dresses will always have a special place in my heart. It was a FP dress that sealed the deal on my first date with my hubby. Over the past seven years (I can’t believe its been that long!) none have even compared, until I laid eyes on the Queen of Hearts mini dress at Bloomingdales. STUN in this paisley dress during your next soiree. Black or blue, they are equally gorge.

I’m smitten over the Liana Cork Wedge Lace Up Sandals. These blush beauties feature a cutout suede design and metallic gold flatform. It doesn’t get better than that! While I envision them with the FP dress above, I have a funny feeling they’d look good with just about everything.

High-waisted shorts are a great versatile item to have on hand. You can wear them with crop tops or with your go-to blouses, and they pair nicely with jean jackets, blazers, and vests. Depending on the material or pattern, you can get away with wearing them during the day or night, with stockings or bare legs. In the featured outfit I styled this striped pair for daytime wear.

The options are endless when you are working with a fringe vest. You may recall this Valentine’s Day look. Think of a vest as the spring version of a blazer – it’ll add just enough pop to a basic ensemble. This boho version is fabulous, and the perfect topper for your high-waisted shorts. Choose a “neutral” and you’ll be pleasantly surprised how often you wear it. Burgundy is one of those in my book, as it matches with black or brown ensembles.

Lace-up shoes are all the talk and chances are high that you’ve noticed a pair or two on the shelves among your favorite retailers. To all of my high-heel loving short legged friends, if you are going to give in to a pair of flats, this is how to do it! These sexy little things add a nice kick to your casual weekend wear and a playful touch to your business attire. Stick to a nude hue – it will elongate the appearance of your legs.

Floppy hats are IN and the good news is that they are suitable for wear all year round. Whether you are wine tasting, jammin’ at an outdoor concert, or brunching with your gal pals, an attractive hat can go a long way. Not to mention they instantly take the tragedy out of a bad hair day! My color choices are: navy, camel, and black this season.

Leave it to Free People to design the perfect fest getup. The cotton “Mi Corazon Set” will keep you cool and you’ll look damn good at the same time. You all know I love matching separates, and this one in off-white has all the right details. Back in 2009, I wore this dress solo, with my hair long and straight, a nude lip, and a pair of peep-toe booties. Fast-forward to October 2015, and I completely transformed the look with a faux fur stole from Bebe. This simple addition not only fancied up the look, but it brought out the peacock design on the bodice of the dress. I further switched things up by incorporating black Stuart Weitzman over-the-knee boots. Minis and OTK boots is totally a thing this season, so this combo helped me refreshen the ensemble to current clothing standards! I polished off the look with a high ponytail and some glitzy earrings from Jest Jewels.

Think twice before you give that special article of clothing away. Chances are it’ll come back in style and you’ll be able to spruce it up with the latest and greatest in fashionable finds.

The Free People Walking to the Sun dress in cream is too cute for words. Featuring 3/4 length sleeves and a ruffle hem, this lace number is a great piece for the fall. On sale for $64 at Shopbop, wear it solo or pair it with long-line sleeveless outwear. If you’re old school and cannot justify white-tones after Labor Day, not to worry, this dress is also available in black and dandelion. Choosing to rock this little thing solo, I accessorized with a chunky necklace and my favorite pumpkin clutch. Mixing textures is one of the easiest ways to jazz up your ensemble, so I polished off the look with a leopard print wedge bootie.
