How to Style White Sandals

Call me old fashioned, but ever since I was a little girl I have associated white shoes with nurses! Remember when they used to wear white head to toe?! Not that there is anything wrong with that career choice, but there is something about white kicks that seems so sterile. Not to mention they have the ability to make your feet look like boats! Fast forward a couple of decades and all of a sudden they’re “cool” and I own not one but two pairs! Here’s how to wear white sandals and look stylish while doing it.

To avoid the clown shoe appearance, always choose a strappy sandal. This is even more important if you’re wearing white shoes with white pants. Showing some skin will break up all of the white and add dimension. Click here to see how I style white tassel hem jeans with this pair of sandals.

If strappy shoes are out of the question, consider styling your white sandals with cropped pants or shorts. Bearing your ankles will also counter the enlarging abilities. As you can see in today’s look, I paired white sandals with ankle length jeans. That is all it takes.

Finally, color is key! Monochromatic looks are beautiful but unless you are bearing a lot of skin, I recommend adding color into the mix. Which look do you prefer? White jeans with a vibrant top, or blue jeans with a multicolored top? I cannot decide but I am certain that you will not find a cuter gingham shirt for $27!

Festival Fashion for the Edgy Chic

Whether or not you’re a music fest junkie, festival fashion is something that you should familiarize yourself with. A couple of weeks ago, Nancy (the girl boss behind Current Clothing – my fav SF boutique) and I were reminiscing about February’s New York Fashion Week. We laughed as I described my bell bottoms transforming from orange to orange ombré in a matter of minutes. It snowed 10+ inches and the bottoms of my pants were SOAKED! It’s hard to dress to impress in the dead of winter. Props to the New York fashionistas. That is when she said, “skip NYFW and go to Coachella!” While I have never been to the famous fest, I have admired it from a far on Instagram. She’s right, the festival fashion is on another level! I might just have to give it a whirl.

Nancy went on to tell me that brands and showrooms have designated product lines for Coachella. Gone are the days where people are out Easter dress shopping. In California, at least, it is all about the latest and greatest in festival fashion!

So what exactly is festival fashion? It is a cross between bohemian and sexy. Think fringe, flares, feathers, headpieces, and chunky jewelry. Click here to see Kendall Jenner’s Coachella outfits. Apparently we have the same interpretation because she is killin’ it in a peek-a-boo maxi skirt, statement belt, and headband.

These fringe hem jeans SCREAM festival fashion! While I will not be attending Coachella this year, I hope this post will provide “fashspiration” for those of you who will be. I am obsessed with the super high waist because it makes for easy pairing with crop tops. I do not like the show my belly button. Does that makes me “old school?!” Anyway, the featured crop top is from Current Clothing but any frilly top would work in its place. Naturally, my festival fashions are a little bit edgy. I accomplish this by incorporating black accents, a choker, and a bold red lip. What are you festin’ in?!

Cropped Denim: The New “It” Thing

Whether you like it or not, cropped denim is the new “it” thing. It is amazing how much a fashion staple like blue jeans evolve over time. Sometimes for better and sometimes for worse. So how do you wear this style? Allow me to explain.

Start with Black

When styled correctly, cropped denim can be very flattering. But, if you are on the fence about this new trend, start with basic black! Black jeans are slimming, flattering, and easy to style. I opted for a fringe hem pair.

Wear Booties

Take advantage of the opportunity to show off your new booties…without cuffing your jeans! Honestly, that is what I am the most excited about. I do not remember the last time I bought a pair of pants without having to hem them. I bought this embroidered bootie from Sole Society and receive endless compliments every time I wear it. It would be a shame to hide shoes like this underneath full length flare leg pants!

Shake things up

When you are experimenting with a new style, don’t be afraid to shake things up a bit. I accomplished this with accessories and a plaid jacket. Statement belts are also trending. You have probably already noticed your favorite fashionistas buckling up in chunky belts. Hop on the bandwagon! Finally, Consider topping your ensemble with a contrasting jacket or coat. Mixing prints is a great way to jazz things up and a black and white pattern is a safe choice.
