Side Wrap Braid

Whether you’re celebrating a birthday or attending a black tie affair, a special occasion calls for a special hairdo! For some people like myself who prefer to wear their hair down, a side style is always a great compromise. Last week I had the pleasure of attending the Opening of the Stanley Kubrick exhibition at the Contemporary Jewish Museum – the perfect excuse to have my hair styled. Kristin at the Red Chair Salon whipped up this side wrap braid in about 25 minutes. Below is a step-by-step tutorial so that you can create the same “do” at home.

1. Begin by curling day old washed hair with 1 inch curling iron

2. Spray roots with hairspray and tease hair creating volume and fullness (the more the better!)

3. Lightly brush out curls with soft bristle brush to create waves

4. After choosing a preferred side, start a dutch braid in a downward direction. At the nape of your neck, fasten braid with an elastic band and secure end with bobby pin

5. Cover the elastic band with remaining hair and “fluff”up the edges

6. Gently pull apart the braid to give it a messy/thicker appearance. Finish with hairspray

I rocked this side wrap braid with a black jumpsuit, but what is so great about this classic hairstyle is that it looks so “hollywood glam” with just about everything! If you are local in San Francisco, and need a cut, color, or style, call the ladies at the Red Chair Salon and get ‘er done!

Green Halter Dress

When I laid eyes on this dress, one word came to mind…RETRO! There is something so fun about a full skirt like this. It reminds me of the dance off scene in the gymnasium in the movie Grease. No wonder I cannot help but twirl around in this little number! Aside from its great movement, the silhouette is ultra feminine. The fitted bodice and darts outline your figure nicely, while the open back adds a bit of flirty flair. The sweeping halter straps create just enough drama – something that is very necessary with a solid colored garment. To go along with the whole retro vibe, I paired this dress with vintage gold pearls and my new favorite heels (featured in last week’s Wish List Wednesday article). I polished off the look with a dainty box clutch, a pink lip, and high ponytail – the bow back is too good to coverup. How is that for some Old Hollywood glam?

Faux Leather Midi Dress

The holiday season is officially here. With Thanksgiving just days away, and work parties in full swing, there is no better time than now to line up the LBDs. If you follow me on social media, then you may have noticed the “1940’s Hollywood Glam” Instagram post, last Wednesday night. We hosted my husband’s office holiday dinner at Foreign Cinema so it was time to break out a little black dress! Leave it to Current Clothing to carry the perfect one.

This dress is a favorite for many reasons. A halter neck gets me every time and the keyhole detail is ultra feminine. The best feature, however, is the hip-hugging faux leather midi skirt. The longer length balances out the slim fit silhouette, and the gold zipper detail creates just enough oomph. If it wasn’t for the high slit, this dress would not be flattering on a petite frame. Midi skirts tend to “cut off” our legs at an undesirable spot, making them appear shorter than they actually are. The steamy slit helps us avoid this fashion faux pas! I styled this dress with gold accents – a box clutch, vintage Miriam Haskell earrings, and nude pumps.

Thanks to the Red Chair Salon for my side-curls hairdo. Now do you see why I captioned my photo “1940’s Hollywood Glam?!”
