Getting dressed in the winter can be difficult. You do not want to sacrifice style, but you do not want to freeze either. A statement coat in a versatile hue is ideal. Treat animal prints like neutrals and you’ll never dress in a boring outfit again! When I found this coat in Florence, I knew it would elevate my cold weather looks in Prague. The leopard print front is timeless, and the emerald back adds an edgy flair.

If a statement overcoat is too much for you, jazz up a traditional parka with untraditional winter accessories. Consider a faux fur stole, or a shapka hat. Catch my drift?! Underneath my leopard print coat, I dressed in a matching emerald off the shoulder top, and ruffle hem trousers. Even in the 35 degree weather, I was ready to take on the day!

Begin with a solid colored blouse. Rather than gravitating towards white or black, stick to a neutral, but go for something slightly more interesting like beige, ivory, or blush (as seen below). If possible, make it a neutral with a twist. As you can see, this blush top features white piping down the sides and a surplice back.

After that, adorn yourself in a printed scarf. I’ve said it once and I’m saying it again, transform a bland outfit into a fashion masterpiece in a matter of seconds with a fab scarf. For this look, I chose a geometric and leopard printed scarf – it did just the trick.

Now on to the denim…pair your top and scarf with embellished jeans. Stonewashed denim, coated denim, or distressed denim will work the best. While I am a huge fan of colored denim, it might become too time consuming matching your skinnies with your scarf. For this occasion, I chose dark blue distressed jeans. The color accentuated the blue in the scarf, while the rips added a touch of drama.

Finally, because it is a sin in my house to leave without accessories, grab your everyday earrings, stack some rings, and off you go, fashionable and punctual!

Believe me when I say, horizontal stripes do not have to be boring…it will just require you to do a little bit of thinking outside of the box! For example, during my initial outfit planning session with this striped top, from PinkBlush Boutique, black denim seemed like an obvious match. While I always planned on mixing prints by incorporating a leopard print scarf, when I tried on the top with black pants, one word came to mind: MEH. Considering it is my job to provide y’all with quality “fashspiration,” outfit option number one was not going to cut it. Despite the casual nature of the top, it became quite obvious to pair it with black over-the-knee boots instead. Voila! Just like that the top went from good to great.

Playing off of the suede pockets, I looped a camel and black infinity scarf around my neck to tie in all of the neutral hues. I accessorized further toping the shirt with a fringe cardigan vest, tassel earrings, and oversized black mirrored sunnies. Completing the look with some drama, I threw my hair in a sock-bun and painted on a bright red lip. Now that is what I call horizontal stripes with a twist! The one area that is lacking in my wardrobe is the tops department. I often hoard statement pieces and dresses, making it interesting when it is simply a top and jeans kind of night. When I came across this leopard swing dress, it was love at first sight! Evidently I was not the only one, as it is on backorder until the end of November. Great for a casual day in the city, I will be putting a lot of mileage on this little thing before the season is over! The plush material and long sleeves are the perfect combination for a crisp San Francisco day. Rock this dress solo with ankle boots, or pair it with opaque stockings and black pumps. The glamorous gals over at RDB even styled this number with colored tights and a floppy hat – the options are endless. A huge fan of black and brown ensembles, I took that route, and paired my black Stuart Weitzman over-the-knee boots with this piece. To embellish the look further, I accessorized with a faux fur infinity scarf and dramatic tassel earrings. Another potential Thanksgiving outfit in the books! Decisions decisions…

I’ve been yearning for a sleeveless sweater as I’m a big fan of sleeveless outerwear in general. When I came across this one from Forever 21, I knew it would be a smart purchase. Not only is camel the perfect fall hue, but the mock neck is suitable for the weather here. The side slits add an interesting touch and the length is great for leggings or skinny jeans. I paired this piece with burgundy skinny jeans from Current Clothing (most comfortable pants ever) and added a bit of flair with my leopard print booties. I accessorized lightly with a long fringe statement necklace and a brushed gold bracelet.

When I came across this retro floral top at my local H&M, I had to have it. Featuring three quarter length sleeves and a darling pleated back, this top is the perfect addition to your autumn attire. Sticking with the same color palette, I paired this piece with olive Girlfriend Jeans from Gap and a pumpkin wristlet. I completed the look with green bangles and leopard print wedge booties. Contrasting prints is one of the easiest ways to take your outfit to the next level – just work around one dominant color. For example, when I look at this floral pattern, my eye is immediately drawn to the orange hues. I knew the leopard shoes would work, because they are in the same orangey-brown color family. Capeesh?!
