For the warm September days where long pants are not an option, your denim skirt will become a life saver. Whether it’s an aline button up (as seen here), a maxi, or a distressed mini, they will all have the same affect. I chose the latter for today’s post.

Now that you’re a proud owner of a denim skirt, how do you dress it? One way to do it is to layer. Consider topping sleeveless outerwear over your fall hues. In this look, I layered a faux fur vest over a sheer cropped top. The top kept me cool, while the vest added a nice autumn touch.

Another way to rock a jean skirt right now is to pair it with a lightweight top. In the featured look I styled a distressed mini with a surplice sweater. The cross front top has fall vibes all over it, while the skirt kept me nice and cool. I polished off the ensemble with a choker (if you do not yet own one, hop to it!) and lace up sandals. Lace ups are great transitional item because they’re an alternative to a closed toe bootie. Happy Tuesday!

I love a good statement piece because they are easy to style. When I came across this denim tassel dress I was eager to add it to my wardrobe. You never want to compete with the garment itself, so keeping things simple is the way to go. When in doubt, pull out a less prominent hue and run with it! I chose pink because there are hints of it in the embroidery, and you can never go wrong with blush and blue. As you can see, I incorporated a pink clutch, sunglasses, wedge sandals, and lipstick. I think they did the trick!

Maxi dresses are very elegant, but can be a hard fit on a petite frame. It is all about finding the right cut. If you’re under 5′ 2″ tall, I highly suggest a fitted maxi or one with a thigh high slit. This will undoubtedly avoid the bag lady appearance and it’ll compliment your body type. I love a high slit because it instantly elongates the appearance of your legs. Score! Whether you are out running errands or it’s date night, a maxi with a slit will do the trick. This short sleeve brown and white maxi is a new favorite.

I have always been a huge fan of black and brown combinations! There is something so crisp about neutrals on neutrals (as seen here). The slit allows for this piece to go dressy or casual. At only five feet tall, it is a rare occasion for the length to be just right out of the box. I gave myself a boost with a pair of black sandals. I took the dressy route (surprise surprise!) and styled this dress with a Prada “Executive Tote” and retro Karen Walker sunnies. Stay tuned for another look from Make Me Chic!
