Tuesday afternoon we set out for a tour of the Uffizi Museum. If you’re fond of art, add this exhibit to your bucket list. There are over 10,000 works of Renaissance Art in the museum. A guide is encouraged because it is easy to get “lost” in the endless halls of artwork and you do not want to miss a Michelangelo painting! Anyway, I do not do well in cold temperatures, so I packed expecting the worse. After all the hype, the weather there was not much different than the weather at home. I got off easy…

A flower child at heart, I take advantage of every opportunity I get to wear 1970’s fashions. When I came across these velvet flare pants from Forever 21, I knew they would be perfect for a day of exploring Firenze. Velvet is a toasty fabric and quite comfortable too. I paired these bottoms with a burgundy turtleneck sweater and draped a little pink coat over my shoulders creating a feminine contrast. The only thing I would have changed about this look is the shoes! My feet needed a massage after walking the cobblestone streets in high heels. Now I see why they say, “wear comfortable shoes” in Florence. It is not the mileage, but it is the terrain. Even if you are a professional heel wearer like me, the uneven pavement is difficult to navigate in anything other than flats or wedges. Lesson learned!

After taking these photos at the very scenic Ponte Vecchio, we wined and dined at the charming trattoria, Pandemonio. All I can say is good thing these pants had an elastic waist…but more about the food tomorrow!

Black and White

Begin with a black and white statement piece. Plaid, stripes or polka dots are all good starting points. I chose a plaid coat, but I could have easily swapped it out for a cape or blanket scarf instead. Although the options are endless, stick with either a top or a bottom.

Think Neutrals

Now that you have your B&W garment picked out, consider styling it with what you consider neutral accents. The Parisian way is quite simple…think solid black pants, khaki, or a classic handbag. As far as I am concerned burnt orange is a chic substitute for traditional khaki. I dressed orange pants with a white choker neck top to add some of my own edgy flair.

Mens’s Wear

When piecing together a Parisian look, don’t be afraid to get inspiration from the the men’s department. Think boxy sport coats or oxford shoes. I chose the latter and rocked a pair of oxford pumps. Although one may argue that a flat would have been truer to the Parisian style, it is just as important to stay true to YOU. I’ll forever be a high heel type of gal!

Similar to a vest or a scarf, one of the easiest ways to enhance a simple ensemble is to layer with a sleeveless trench coat. Maybe you’re wearing a solid cotton dress and it needs a little oomph. Or a body con mini and you need some coverage. I used a sleeveless trench to add some edge to a lace up olive dress. I think it did just the trick!

The lace up trend continues to boom. You have probably noticed lace up tops, bodysuits, etc., stocking the shelves at your favorite retailers. I’m a fan of this racy fad but sometimes it isn’t the most practical. It can become quite a challenge to find the right undergarments. I was pleasantly surprised that this little number was easy to wear and very low maintenance in that department. I topped it with a black sleeveless trench to go along with the black oxford shoes. Naturally, I accessorized with a choker necklace and tassel earrings. I guess you can call me predicable!
