Fall colors are the easiest to wear. I realize this statement is very general, but hear me out. Unlike the summertime where your options are neon, during the fall months, royal colors prevail. These richly saturated hues, across the board, are complimentary against every complexion. This makes getting dressed and buying clothes a lot easier! It is also during the Autumn months where it is perfectly acceptable to accent your royal tones with your favorite warm weather hues. Hence the turquoise accessories featured in this look…

I have made it a goal this season to add more tops to my wardrobe. I often find myself styling dresses and jumpsuits. While those garments are definitely my favorite, when it is time to wear a simple outfit, I do not have many tops to choose from! Peplum silhouettes are already one of my favorites, so when I laid eyes on this lace v-neck shirt, it had a home in my closet. This top could pass as a designer item although only priced at $44.97. The lace details are exquisite and the zigzag hem is simply chic.

It is always a good idea to dress in complimentary colors. Orange and blue, for instance are opposite on the color wheel. That is why the turquoise accents “popped” so well against the burnt orange jeans. I polished off the look with gray booties – my go-to kicks during this infamous transitional period. They give off fall vibes, yet the open-toe design keeps you cool.

Kelsey Kaplan & Teggy French in Alexis Clothing

When Kelsey Kaplan and Teggy French collaborate, big things happen! If you follow me on Instagram then you probably witnessed the shenanigans that took place last week while my cousin was in town. There is nothing like having a relative/blogger/bff to bounce ideas of off, and more importantly, to share clothes with! It was my lucky day that “Teggy” just so happened to pack a matching shirt and dress from the high-end womenswear line, Alexis.

White on white is so crisp and clean. Although I do not follow the “no white after Labor Day” rule, I probably wouldn’t wear it head to toe after the first week of September. This Alexis peplum top is dazzling in details. From the beautifully textured design, to the delicate lace trim, this piece looks like a work of art! As if you haven’t guessed already, I dressed this shirt with white jeans and nude accents, including the chicest shades on the market by Victory Optical.

Teggy rocked the coordinating dress and she killed it…surprise surprise! She has always inspired me style-wise. I never would have thought to wear this dress with a cowl neck sweater, but it totally worked. This fashion hack will come in handy during the “fog” days of summer. Sticking to the monochromatic theme, she accessorized with dainty white accents, including a classic Chanel purse and cutout sandals. My cousin is cooler than yours! She really is though…

Alexis Peplum Top

If you’ve been following my Instagram “Stories” over the last few days, then you already know that my very fashionable cousin, “Teggy French,” was out for a visit. For over two decades we’ve been playing dress up, primping our hair, and painting our faces (there are pictures to prove it!). If there is such thing as a “soul sister,” she is mine. EVERYTHING about Teggy is fabulous, especially her sense of style. I had so much fun going through her rolling closet and styling items such as this Alexis Peplum Top.

Leave it to Teggy to introduce me to this glamorous brand! Each piece in the collection is crafted beautifully out of ornate material. This peplum top features a lace overlay over a crisp nude fabric and dainty feminine straps.

As I continue to incorporate the typical fall hues into my playtime attire, I dressed this Alexis Peplum Top with burnt orange jeans and nude accents. I have a feeling orange will become my new black as we head into the autumn months.

Lemon Peplum Top

When life gives you lemons…style a cute outfit. No really though! If you follow me on Instagram then you already caught a glimpse of this darling lemon peplum top from Current Clothing (if you don’t follow me on Instagram, hop to it!). It is funny to see what fashions come and go, and food items have made their way to the top in recent months. I used to think graphic prints were not for me…apparently I did not do a good job styling them in the past. Here is how to transform graphic prints from kitschy to chic!

Do not over do it

You all know I am a fan of matching coordinates, but there is such thing as being too matchy! Maybe you own a pair of lemon shaped earrings, and a printed lemon tote. Congratulations, you’re up with the times, but this doesn’t mean you should wear them all together. The only way this works is if the colors are contrasting tones. A yellow top, with the same yellow earrings, and the same yellow bag is boring and a little bit tacky. That is why I incorporated a neon purse into the mix! Although also a lemon shape, it is not a carbon copy of printed top and the colors are fluorescent.

Elegance is key

Style your printed garments just as elegantly as you would a solid. I paired this lemon peplum top with sleek stonewash jeans. Can you imagine how different it would have looked had I rocked a pair of bright green shorts instead? I accessorized with classic stiletto pumps, and dainty jewelry including my brand new Kapten & Son watch. Creating a balance between playful and polished will keep your printed pieces fashionable and fabulous. Have any of you fallen in and out of love with a style of garment?!

Mermaid Skirt

Mermaid, trumpet, fit and flare, they are all very similar silhouettes. Over the past five years these shapes have become the go-to choice for brides of all shapes and sizes. Go figure as they are extremely figure flattering! I am happy to report this silhouette has become a mainstream favorite and as a result is popping up across the fashion industry. The last time I wore a mermaid skirt was for a black tie affair. I was stoked to find this knit and less formal version.

The only thing better than a maxi skirt is a mermaid maxi skirt! I could hardly contain my excitement when I laid eyes on this stunner at Current Clothing! Whether you are a bride-to-be, festival junkie, or simply chic, this maxi skirt deserves a special spot in your closet. The princess seams guarantee you a swoon-worthy fit, while the subtle chevron print ups its versatility. With the right additions, this skirt can easily go from noon to five. For a daytime affair, pair this beauty with a cropped off-the-shoulder top, a jean jacket, and a side braid.

With a cocktail party in Las Vegas coming up, I chose the latter, and styled this mermaid skirt for the evening. To compliment the shapely lower half, I paired it with a feminine structured top. Although a classic black or white would have worked, I took advantage of the opportunity to add a pop of color by incorporating this magenta peplum top into the mix. I know I always say to keep the accessories to a minimum when you are working with a statement piece, but when it comes to Vegas, the bigger the better! That is why I chosen a very gaudy pearl necklace.

Bell Bottoms: They’re Baaack!

Bell bottoms are hitting the shelves faster than ever before and I couldn’t be happier about it…talk about a blast from the past. One of the things that I love the most about fashion is that it is cyclical. Hence the reason flare leg pants have made a comeback from 1970’s disco garb. Lace on the other hand, is timeless.

Free People, the Red Dress Boutique, and Forever 21 are just a few of the many retailers currently carrying bell bottom lace bottoms. But no matter where they’re from or what color they are, they all have one thing in common. They’re HOT! How perfect would a white pair be for a bride-to-be to wear during her bachelorette party?! Being a huge fan of black apparel in general, it was an easy decision to make when I purchased mine. Plus, black is acceptable all months of the year. Since fancy is always better, I dressed these bottoms up with a black peplum top. I thought this cut was a nice balance between the sheer fabric and slim fit pant. Trying to keep things rather simple, I accessorized lightly with black tassel earrings ($9.99 from H&M) and my Gucci purse. Lace pants make enough of a statement – no need to compete.

If you’re ready to shake your groove thing on the dance floor, and show ’em how [you] do it now…get yourself a pair of lace disco pants! Yeah yeah…

If the Pants Fit!

Just like the saying, “if the shoe fits…” in the KK and GG handbook, the same rule applies when it comes to a pair of pants. While perusing the assortment of pants for sale at The Limited, I was pleasantly surprised to discover the large selection of petites. Being a five-footer, I am constantly taking my maxis and pants to the tailor. While the tailor is probably happy about this, having to pay for a hem job over and over again begins to add up. So, I am very excited to introduce you to the The Limited’s Tapered Trouser Pants.

These pants are great for lounging around, comfortable for a day of shopping, and genuinely figure flattering. Unlike many drawstring pants, these guys have a more structured fit – they don’t look like a pair of pajama bottoms even though they might feel like it. The fine details of the tapered hem, side slit pockets, and welt back pockets make it look like you’re just in another pair of your business casual khakis. If this sounds too good to be true but you’re over five feet tall, not to worry. Purchase your Tapered Trouser Pants in “Regular” or “Tall!” They truly are made for all shapes and sizes. Because to me, fancy is always better, I dressed these printed bottoms up with a black peplum top and accessorized with a pair of statement earrings, black strappy shoes, and a chartreuse purse. Not to say that they could not be dressed down. For a casual look, style these trousers with a short-sleeved v neck, throw on a long necklace, your favorite flats, and call it a day. And if the tropical print is too much for you, there are two others to choose from. Take your pick!

When Life Gives You Lemons

Over the next few posts I am going to demonstrate various ways to rock a pair of white pants. These suckers are a wardrobe staple during the warm spring and summer months and you cannot go wrong with purchasing a reliable pair of flare and skinny white slacks. Suitable for various occasions, there is something so crisp and classy about ’em that I just cannot get enough of.

When life gives you lemons, wear orange lipstick! No really, how fun is this fruit-shaped purse?! Food items are trending in the fashion world so why not ride the bandwagon?! Being a huge fan of contrasting colors, I knew this accessory would pop nicely against a white pants outfit, so there you have it. Introduce me to a good peplum top and 9 times out of ten it’ll have a new home in my closet. Introduce me to a neon green lace peplum top and it will be hanging in my closet in a matter of seconds! As you can see in the photos below, I paired this gem with my favorite white flare jeans – I always prefer a tailored top with wide leg pants. To incorporate all of the colors in the purse, I styled this look with a chunky yellow necklace, a white watch, and a rhinestone bracelet. With my white laser cut sandals on repeat, I think they helped polish off this ensemble…although a pair of white or nude pumps would’ve worked too.
