If you follow me on Instagram, then you know exactly why this has been a very heavy week. In an effort to shine some light on a dark situation, today I am sharing the colorful items on my spring wish list. From power suits, maxi dresses, to glitzy high heels, 2020 is the year of COLOR.

How to Add Color to your Neutral Wardrobe

For some of us the emergence of color is great news, but for others vibrant hues may be slightly intimidating. If you fall into the latter group, I encourage you to give the trend a try. And you don’t have to leave the house in a lime green outfit to participate! Start by including pops of color into your neutral ensemble. Pair a floral top (13) with a pair of blush pants (20), and a vibrant lip color. Or, incorporate a vibrant shoe (10) with a crisp little white dress (5). There’s no wrong way to do it!

Stand Out in the Crowd

It’s official, I want one of everything on this list. The rainbow maxi (1) is an obvious must-have item, but I’ve been eyeing the mules (10) and pumps (11) for weeks. One can never own too many pairs of shoes…am I right? But aside from bold hues and vibrant prints, I am loving the resurgance of tie dye apparel. It makes wearing button downs (8) and classic tops (7) more exciting to wear. Now which item is on your must-have list?!

Wish List Wednesday: All Pinked Out

It’s that time of year again! Contrary to the rest of the US, San Francisco is historically cold during the traditional “summer months.” Every year I look forward to the end of August when the temperatures begin to rise and it is finally dress and shorts weather. So for all my Bay Area girls, I dedicate this wish list to YOU!

It is no secret that I am the official pink lady…and 50 shades of pink remain hot for the fall. From minis, maxis, to ruffled out rompers, I am covering it all. Is a swimsuit on your packing list this Labor Day weekend?! Consider swapping out a bikini for a sexy one-piece and dress it up with a playful pair of earrings. I’m about to add this one to my shopping cart! When in doubt, wear ripped jeans. Distressed denim has the ability to oomph up your outfit in a matter of minutes. But a lavender pair…there aren’t enough heart eye emojis for ’em! Happy Wednesday!

Off the Shoulder Romper

If there is one garment you add to your wardrobe this summer, make it this off the shoulder romper! This hot little number is available in a variety of colors and suitable for every warm weather occasion. I chose pink (do I even need to explain?!) and am truly impressed with the style and fit. Petite girls rejoice! This frilly onesie is available in xs and just the right length for five footers like myself. The off the shoulder design is universally flattering and helps keep you cool during the warm weather months. While the synched waist and ruffle sleeve details are the perfect feminine touches. Did somebody say DATE NIGHT?!

I have been waiting for the perfect occasion to debut my new headscarf after wearing one for the first time last month. Check it out here. These trendy items serve many purposes. 1. they are a great way to incorporate another color into your ensemble, 2. they literally tame your mane. Rainbow Maxi Dress in Colombia

I have said it once and I am saying it again, fashion trends are cyclical…they come and and they go. And at this very moment, rainbow printed garments are IN style. From t-shirts, crop tops, swimsuits, to dresses, this happy print is becoming a summer vacation staple. This rainbow maxi dress was a hit on the streets of Colombia but not a hit to my bank account. Can I get a whoop whoop?!

All of the rainbow print garments featured today are under $60 from Red Dress Boutique. You know my motto about fad items: save don’t splurge! Well, this $52 maxi dress is flowing with sass! The halter neckline accents your shoulders while the open-back design provides cooling capabilities. You do not need much to make this dress pop. Consider a statement earring and fun clutch. But if you happen to be in downtown Medellín, a piña colada from La Guachafita will do. But only if it’s served in a hollowed out pineapple! Petite girls…rock this stunner with platform heels or hem the skirt and use the excess fabric as a headscarf. If only I had thought of that before writing this post!

What’s in my Delsey Suitcase?

In 72 hours we are off to Colombia. All I can say is, thank goodness for two-day shipping! We are visiting three different cities and the climate varies greatly from one to the next. I have been watching the weather like a hawk and it looks like there is some rain in our future. Fingers crossed my white jeans stay white for more than one third of our trip! Ha! Now that is wishful thinking. Regardless, I’m making it a mission to pack all of my belongings into this small Delsey suitcase. Now let’s hope Jonathan has room for my portable steamer!

After researching fashionable carry-ons it became very obvious that the Delsey suitcase was the way to go. Not only is it super stylish, but it has the obligatory double spinner wheels, and an ergonomic interior featuring removable hanger, laundry, and shoe bags. So how does one fit 11 days of outfits in a carry-on suitcase? By committing to one pair of shoes and “ranger rolling” your clothes.

If you only travel with one pair of shoes, they better be comfortable. That is why I am packing wedge sandals and wearing flip flops on the plane. Wedges are the most comfortable version of high heels. I chose yellow because it is a neutral in my book. And as you can see, not one item in my suitcase clashes with the yellow. Score! Tip: If you’re partial to color, choose your shoe first. Then coordinate your looks around the shoe choice. The only items not pictured above are white jeans and blue jean shorts, a pink tie-front top, and a lightweight sweater. Wish me luck…!

How to Wear a Monochrome Outfit

It is not very common for a lover of color to go head to toe in neutrals. But when done right, a monochrome outfit can leave a lasting impression. Here’s the secret “ingredient!”

It’s all about texture. Think about it, blocks and blocks of the same color are uninteresting and predictable. But mixing textures into your monochrome outfit creates an attractive contrast. Today I am practicing what I preach with: lace, ruffles, and gold studs. These design elements work together to form an elegant ensemble.

This two-layer tee is the perfect addition to my not so practical summer wardrobe. It is what I refer to as a “basic with a twist.” When I am not wearing it with shorts, it will look simply chic with ripped denim. The fit is true to size, and it is available in mustard, lavender, and beige (as seen here). Take your pick! The ruffle shorts, on the other hand, are not your average pair of khakis. Instead, they feature a side zip closure, and darling ruffle detail! Act fast for only $45 they are bound to sell out fast.

The Art of Dressing in a T-Shirt and Jeans

I don’t wear t-shirts often…so when I do, it’s gotta be a standout tee. That being said, there is an exact science to wearing a t-shirt fashionably and age appropriately. I’m petite and I look like a baby (so what I have been told). The last time I wore a t-shirt with jeans the Delta gate agent asked me if I was traveling with a chaperone. 30 going on 13 I guess! So here’s how to wear a tee fashionably well.

The Knot

Something as easy as a side knot can take your look from ok to great. Knots come and go but right now they are unusually hip. But more than that, they serve a very specific purpose. Knotting your t-shirt is a great way to show off your figure and reduce bulk. Consider a side, middle, or back knot the next time you suit up in a t-shirt.

Step it Up

If you are petite like me and you wear a t-shirt and sneakers, you will be mistaken for a teenager. Swap the sneaks for some heels and just like that you up your style game. And it doesn’t need to be a five inch stiletto. A high heel slide will do the trick. This pair is under $40 and available in pale blue and tomato red. Stock up while supplies last.

Surprise, surprise

Pair your tee with an unexpected bottom. A skirt, culottes, or flounce hem jeans perhaps. This style hack is just as impactful as mixing prints but it is easier to execute. So remember, knots, heels, and dynamic bottoms. Happy Friday!

Dress like a Boss in a Pink Power Suit

Do you own a “power suit?” Technically that is not a real “thing” but what I am asking is if there is a specific ensemble that makes you feel totally fearless?! If you answered no to this question, we gotta do something about that! Today I am sharing with you my pink power suit that makes me feel like a total boss.

Fashion is my passion for numerous reasons. But most of all I love that it can totally lift my mood. My day can go from blah to great thanks to a killer outfit. And I do not mean it in a materialistic way. Rather, a good looking ensemble gives me confidence and makes me feel pretty! Sometimes we all need a little somethin’ somethin’. Think about it…you don’t show up for a job interview or first date in just an ok outfit! Maybe your power suit consists of your favorite bum sculpting jeans and a blouse. Whatever it is, make sure it’s a good one and have it on hand at all times. Mine just happens to be a metallic pink power suit. Surprise, surprise!

About the Fit

I love all things jacquard. It seems like the most glamorous textiles are crafted out of it. But what I do not love about this material is that it does not stretch. While this is not a total deal breaker, it can make getting dressed interesting if you’re bottom heavy. Style tip: Size up in jacquard bottoms and alter the garment to fit your waist and booty. Luckily I do not run into the same problem on my upper half or I would be financing the tailor’s business! The matching jacket fits true to size.
