Rodeo Boutique is a Baton Rouge ESTABLISHMENT. It is the go-to store for fashion forward clothing. Every single item is hand picked by Shanna and I would gladly own one of everything. I was amazed by her sense of style and taste since day one, and 10 years later, I still am. It was at Rodeo Boutique where I realized just how much pleasure I get out of coordinating thoughtful ensembles. I knew I was good at it when regular customers would come in asking for me! They wanted me to dress them for football games, baby showers, rehearsal dinners, etc. You know who you are!

It only seemed appropriate to revisit my roots during a Rodeo meet-up with OG followers and new insta-friends alike! Because of the close proximity to LSU, a lot of students shop at the store. And because of my alumni status, many LSU students support my blog. I am forever grateful for my purple and gold community. I hope you enjoy this video as much as I enjoyed creating it. When I was a student at LSU, I managed the one and only Rode’o Boutique. This Baton Rouge hotspot is magazine material and deserves a spot on Rodeo Drive. Whether you’re a young professional, student, or new mom, it’s nearly impossible to leave the store without a bag full of goodies. When prepping for my trip, I had a feeling Rode’o would have something suitable for the tropics. After all, the Louisiana heat and humidity is “impressive.” Sure enough, the Viviana Romper was the perfect addition to my Puerto Vallarta attire.

Cut out garments are great in tropical climates. They have the same affect as cracking a window in a steamy room! Hopefully the photos do this thing justice The print reminds me of a beautiful acrylic painting. I am not sure what I like more, the vibrant hues or the playful fit! Regardless, I wore this little number to a rooftop dinner at Hacienda San Angel. There we celebrated my parent’s 45th Wedding Anniversary. For this happy occasion, I dressed it with rose gold sandals and matching tassel earrings. But what’s really special about this romper is that it can go from beach to dinner. For a daytime look, I’d swap the heels for flip-flops and throw my hair in a bun. There’s no point in fighting the humidity…clearly!

The power of a scarf….I have actually blogged about that topic before. The high waisted wide leg pants in “Tile Print” are divine. Thanks to the bold geometric pattern, you will become the center of attention when you walk into the room, whether you like it or not. Aside from their good looks and wonderful color palette, these pants are lightweight, machine washable and feature an elastic waistband. I think we can all appreciate a stellar piece that is also easy to care for!

For an evening at the museum, I paired these stunners with a pale blue crop top. These pants are what I refer to as, ULTRA high waisted – no need to worry about exposed midriff. I chose an off-the-shoulder neckline A. because this trend is poppin’ and B. to break things up a bit. There are a whole lotta pants going on down there, and had I styled them with a traditional cropped tank, I would have looked like a big rectangle. It is times like this where a little skin bearing goes a long way! I dressed up the look with crystal and pearl earrings from my friends over at Rodeo Boutique. They complete the look if you ask me!

You already know I am a huge fan of two-piece sets because they take the thinking out of getting dressed. This tomato red pair, by findersKEEPERS, is simply chic. The fitted crop top features a wrap front detail and exposed back zipper, making it a great standalone piece also. Picture this stunner with white high-waisted flare leg jeans. I stuck to basics this time around and styled it with matching trouser shorts. The front pleated design and exposed zipper add just enough oomph to an otherwise basic bottom.

Accessorizing with a solid ensemble is like the start of a new painting – the options are endless. Here is how you can transform a sophisticated look into an eclectic one. Begin with a funky pair of shoes. I chose gladiators because you can never go wrong with a black wedge. Now when it comes to jewelry, always remember, the funkier the chunkier. Knee-high lace-up sandals and dainty jewels do not go together – save the pearls for when you wear your pumps. The Vanessa Mooney necklace and cuff were the right mod additions, and the pop of turquoise was an added bonus. Red and turquoise will forever remain one of my favorite color combos.

After a lot of research and contemplation, I decided to transfer to LSU, in Baton Rouge, LA where there was an accredited fashion program. Carrying on with my life in CT the summer before I started, I visited Tonya to share my news. What are the chances that her sister owned a similar store in Baton Rouge close to the university?! I was in complete shock, but really excited at the same time. Tonya introduced me to her sister, Shanna, upon my arrival to LSU, and we were friends ever since.

I worked as a sales associate in Shanna’s store, Rode’o Boutique, for two years before becoming the manager. It was there that I became comfortable styling looks for others and where my passion for fashion truly took off. But more importantly, I formed a network of friends and “family” for myself in a place where I did not know a soul. My husband and I always joke that when we left Baton Rouge for San Francisco, I knew more people in the city than he did, and he was born and raised in Louisiana!

Who would have thought that a maxi length fringe skirt could be so versatile? When I scooped this baby up from Rode’o Boutique a few years ago, I was hoping to get at least two wears out of it. Let me tell you something, I’ve worn this skirt so many times, so many ways, with so many shoes, and every time I wear it, the compliments never stop. I apologize in advance that this exact piece is unavailable, but the good news is, similar items are hitting the shelves at your favorite stores and online retailers, and I have linked to them below. Anyway, being the first time rocking this fringey thing in SF, I simply paired it with a black off the shoulder top, and black strappy sandals. I accessorized lightly with my black tassel earrings and GG’s Chanel-esque Fabuleash. Even though I am on a taupe and black kick this week, I have styled this skirt in the past with an ivory fitted button down, and a blazer. The options are endless.
