There are a lot of things to consider when dressing for a wedding. To begin, check the forecast. There is nothing worse than over heating or freezing your behind off. Second of all, research the venue. Is the space dressy or casual? Will you be indoors or outdoors? What is the terrain? Will your stiletto heels sink in the grass? It sounds like a lot of work, but if you were invited to the wedding then the bride and groom are either relatives or good friends of yours. Ain’t nobody got time to be uncomfortable during the celebratory event! Plus, it’s way easier to find such answers nowadays. Rather than texting the bridezilla bride regarding your outfit, check out the venue and what guests were wearing on Instagram. From the app, simply tap the search box and then hit “places.” Type in the venue name and a slew of photos will populate. Reason number 9,559 to download Instagram.

Now that you know how to do your research, let’s get to the outfit details. I know I know it’s 2017 and the chances are greater than ever that the bride will not be wearing a white gown. Regardless, do not test your luck. Stay clear of all things white. I often dress in jewel tones and so far so good. But even if your color choice is limited, it does not mean you should dress untrue to you. Rather than a statement garment, gravitate towards accessories. In other words, do not show up wearing an avant-garde dress with leg-o’-mutton sleeves. Keep the dress and/or skirt simple, and go all out with the shoes, jewelry or hair.

I have a thing for pants. I would choose a pair of funky trousers over a skirt or dress any day! It’s probably because I’m so active and they’re easier to move around in. Anyway, this pair reminds me of my favorite televisions series, Dancing With the Stars. I have been a fan of frilly costumes since season one so you can imagine my excitement when I discovered this pair. Despite my admiration for the show, you’ll never catch me on the dance floor. Sadly, I have no rhythm (insert laughing emoji). We’ll call these pants my “everyday pair” instead!

Frilly pants are awesome for many reasons…do I even need to explain?! The high waist, however, is at the top of the list! High rise garments give you options. Dress them with a crop top for a playful ensemble or not for a classic one. But aside from outfit options, they give shorties like me long legs effortlessly (after the tailor chops six inches off, of course! #shortpeopleproblems). For today’s look, I styled these suckers with a long sleeve crop top of a similar tiered design. It is a lot of fabric but I love how the ruffles create movement on the upper and lower half of the ensemble. Sometimes less is not more. In true “over-doer” spirit, I polished off the look with pearl embellished sandals, shoulder dusters, and a chunky side braid.

It all began in the car ride from Phoenix International Airport. I shared a shuttle with a lovely middle-aged woman. We conversed the entire time discussing movie options and our past and present careers. She was genuinely interested in a day in the life of a fashion blogger! Coincidentally or not so coincidentally, we ran into each other two more times throughout the festival. One day as we stood in line waiting to enter the theatre, one of her sister’s exclaimed, “I recognize you from your website. We googled your name!” I was not expecting to gain three new fans from the shuttle ride alone, but I was so excited that I did.

Sharon is a socialite. She has a great group of friends all with diverse backgrounds. I enjoyed spending time with each and every one of them. From red carpet fashions, food, travel, makeup, to the blog, we discussed it, and occasionally laughed about it! The generation gap did not matter. It was the conversation and good company that did. While we might not have the same taste in slip dresses, we can all share and appreciate the small things in life. Now what was my favorite movie, you may ask? Definitely “Drawing Home,” a romantic narrative inspired by a true story. It took place in Banff, Canada…let’s just say I found my next destination for blog pics!

Express is a great place to shop if you often alter your clothes. Most pants are instock in sizes 00-18, and available in petite, short, regular, and tall lengths. Apparently I do not disclose my height often enough because when I met my blogger friends in person they all said, “you are so petite – you look taller in your photos.” So, I am shouting it from the rooftops, I am 5 feet tall and the tailor is my bff. No really though, I need to learn how to hem my own clothes!

When you shop for destroyed girlfriend jeans look for a cotton and spandex blend. You need the stretch or they will continue to rip as you wear them. I remember demolishing a pair of Free People jean shorts because my foot got stuck in the tears as I pulled them on. Always size down. Even if you think there is no way that you could fit a smaller size, just do it. I ordered three pairs of these jeans before getting the size right. They are referred to as “girlfriend” fit for a reason. Ideally you want them to be slightly roomy in the hips yet flattering on your figure. The Disco Fur Dress

This dress is dreamy. I love how they pieced together so many elements to create one happy number. At first glance, it screams retro. Probably because of the shift silhouette. But the more you look at it, the more you will notice. Check out the dainty mandarin collar and the coordinating oriental pattern. My favorite details are the faux fur cuffs. As if pointing that out was really necessary. The pale pink and sunny yellow perfectly balance one another out.

The Shoes

Speaking of pale pink…you could definitely rock a pink pair with this flirty piece, but I am partial to a nude heel. Nude shoes have the ability to elongate the appearance of your legs. Who doesn’t want that?! These patent leather sock boots are super trendy and remind me of old timey go-go boots. Considering I refer to this garment as a “disco fur dress,” these funky boots fit into the ensemble nicely.

The Accessories

Too much fur or never enough?! This pretty pink clutch is the PERFECT addition to this playful outfit. Safely store Sephora’s lip stain in Marvelous Mauve inside of your fur clutch for a natural smile. This stuff is magic. It easily lasts for eight hours. Polish off the look with “Vivid Crispin Drops” in yellow. Now don’t judge me if I have this on next week!

The Dress

As you can probably imagine, fashionistas take the statement “dress to impress” to a whole new level during NYFW. Luckily, you can always rely on Nasty Gal when you’re in the market for a spicy statement piece. This dress will definitely have heads turnin’ whether you’re in the Big Apple or out with your sweetie for V-Day. A fun take on the traditional LBD, the black sheer design is simply chic and the magenta floral embroidery adds a unique touch. But can we talk about the shoulder pads?! Talk about a blast from the past!

The Shoes

To my advantage, I already own a pair of pearl stunners that would look great with this dress. Check out how I styled them for my Birthday here. However, velvet booties would create a visually appealing contrast and I have my eye on this pair. They are 50 % off – hooray!
