Miriam Haskell the world-renowed jewelry aficionado opened the doors of her first boutique in 1926 in New York’s McAlpin Hotel. “Le Bijou De L’Heure” quickly became the go-to shop for high society women to purchase custom-made jewels to match their haute couture ensembles. Joan Crawford, the Dutchess of Windsor, and Lucille Ball to name a few. During Haskell’s travels to Paris where she would hand select the finest beads and findings, she would enjoy tea with none other than Coco Chanel. It is said that Haskell’s “design artist,” Frank Hess would join the ladies as they discussed matters related to the fashion industry and upcoming collections.

Today, the Miriam Haskell company continues to run in NYC. Each precious piece is crafted entirely by hand and are reminiscent of Haskell’s original vintage designs. Many finished items feature pearls and Swarovski crystals pieced together into ornate treasures. The chandelier earrings featured in A Black Tie Affair are a wonderful example of this exquisite artistry.
