When I found out that were congregating at my sister-in-law’s house, my outfit options changed significantly. If the celebration is at a private residence, pants are totally acceptable. Typically a lady in a dress is more glamorous than a gal in pants. Luckily I was correct to assume that the bride would be wearing a dress! Once you decide on bottoms, consider styling them with black or brown accents. A “statement” top in black is far less attention grabbing than a statement top in red. Catch my drift?!

You know what they say, “one is never over dressed or under dressed in a little black dress.” While this statement couldn’t be truer, it is quite possible to get tired of classic black. With wedding season in full swing, today I am providing you with more wedding guest attire ideas. If you do not yet own a little navy dress, get shoppin’! This is an item that you can wear 365 days a year. Now how’s that for versatility?!

Now why is navy the perfect substitute for black, you may ask? The answer is rather simple; it compliments every complexion. Navy is always navy. Green, for example, is not always green. Some greens have hints of blue and others hints of yellow. It is not as straight forward with any other hue. And as I alluded to before, it is season proof. In the professional industry many uniforms are navy blue. I do not think that is just by chance!

There are a lot of things to consider when dressing for a wedding. To begin, check the forecast. There is nothing worse than over heating or freezing your behind off. Second of all, research the venue. Is the space dressy or casual? Will you be indoors or outdoors? What is the terrain? Will your stiletto heels sink in the grass? It sounds like a lot of work, but if you were invited to the wedding then the bride and groom are either relatives or good friends of yours. Ain’t nobody got time to be uncomfortable during the celebratory event! Plus, it’s way easier to find such answers nowadays. Rather than texting the bridezilla bride regarding your outfit, check out the venue and what guests were wearing on Instagram. Now that you know how to do your research, let’s get to the outfit details. I know I know it’s 2017 and the chances are greater than ever that the bride will not be wearing a white gown. Regardless, do not test your luck. Stay clear of all things white. I often dress in jewel tones and so far so good. But even if your color choice is limited, it does not mean you should dress untrue to you. Rather than a statement garment, gravitate towards accessories. In other words, do not show up wearing an avant-garde dress with leg-o’-mutton sleeves. Keep the dress and/or skirt simple, and go all out with the shoes, jewelry or hair.
