These pants are literally the stretchiest pants I’ve ever put on my leg! Well, aside from my fav barre pants, of course! And better than that, the fabric is thick so they suck you in and smooth you out. High waisted? Yep! It is all I wear these days. Anyway, I like to think of these beauts as daytime Spanx, or PJs that you can wear in public. Who can resist that level of comfort?

Alternative to Jeans

Correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t you get sick of wearing the same old jeans day after day? Well, these pearl hem pants are a great alternative to your go-to black denim! Think about it, this look would have the same affect with black jeans. But unlike your fav black denim these can go dressy or casual. When I am not wearing them with heels, I’m sporting them with mules. Versatile and cute, it does not get any better than that!

Pearl Hem Pants are Trending

In case you missed the memo, pearls are IN. Like big time. Get the lowdow here. These classic embellishments are covering sweaters, hats, belts, and pants and I am not mad about it! So what does one wear underneath a beaded kimono? The options are endless – anything black really. But I jumped at the occasion to try out the bodycon jumpsuit trend. For months I have noticed these onesies and wondered when and where I would ever have the chutpaz to pull one off. Never mind a “standing dress!” Well, it turns out a bodycon jumpsuit and kimono are a match made in heaven. They are like a long pants version of a bodysuit. They eliminate all the excess bulk. To me, nothing is sharper than black on black. Consider dressing your beaded kimono with black accessories and gold accents. Now bring on the holiday madness!

The coat dress ia a #bosslady’s secret weapon during the cold weather months. We all have crazy busy days where outfit planning simply does not fit into the equation. Fortunately, a reliable coat dress can play two roles: outerwear and daytime wear. Who doesn’t appreciate a two-for-one deal?! Rather than coordinating an entire ensemble, let a coat dress do the thinking and maybe even the talking for you!

So how does one dress in a statement color without looking like a clown?! The answer is rather simple: combine it with classics! In this instance I am wearing a loud coat dress with black and white polka dot pants. The timeless print effortlessly tones down the nontraditional hue – it’s all about balance. Naturally I opted for a bright white boot, though black is perfectly acceptable. For your reference, I am wearing an xs in the coat and it fits true to size. How do you “do” statement hues?! I would love to hear it!

So how is a sporty chic supposed to dress? I wish there was a straight forward answer. Although I am the epitome of a girly girl, I LOVE an edgy outfit. Last week my friend (and store owner) said to me, “you’re edgy but you wear pearls!” She hit the nail on the head. I love leather and lace but appreciate the feminine things in life too. Today’s look is the perfect hybrid of the two.

With waist lines on the rise, crop tops are becoming wardrobe staples. When I came across this faux leather version I knew I’d get a ton of use out of it. It’s the perfect amount of edge to balance out my ultra feminine side. When I do not wear it with skirts, I will wear it with pants. The fit is true to size. I am wearing a size small and the back is adjustable with bra-like hook and closures. Now about the tutu skirt…the inspiration behind this outfit post! This polka dot skirt is what edgy girl’s dream of. The asymmetrical hem adds an appropriate amount of funk to an otherwise classic piece. I love black on black but it’s also available in pink if that doesn’t suit your fancy.

To avoid the clown shoe appearance, always choose a strappy sandal. This is even more important if you’re wearing white shoes with white pants. Showing some skin will break up all of the white and add dimension. Click here to see how I style white tassel hem jeans with this pair of sandals.

If strappy shoes are out of the question, consider styling your white sandals with cropped pants or shorts. Bearing your ankles will also counter the enlarging abilities. As you can see in today’s look, I paired white sandals with ankle length jeans. That is all it takes.

Finally, color is key! Monochromatic looks are beautiful but unless you are bearing a lot of skin, I recommend adding color into the mix. Which look do you prefer? White jeans with a vibrant top, or blue jeans with a multicolored top? I cannot decide but I am certain that you will not find a cuter gingham shirt for $27!

The Cut

If you shy away from white jeans for the reasons above, closely consider the cut. For example, I avoid white skinny jeans like the plague. Instead, I gravitate towards: flare, bootcut, or straight leg jeans. The taper at the knee takes tension off of the thighs, leaving you with a smooth upper half. This tassel hem pair is the perfect hybrid of skinny and straight.

Length of Top

If you’re squeamish at the thought of white pants, the length of your top makes all the difference. Make sure it is long enough to cover your lady parts. I stick with tunics or tops with asymmetrical tail hems. The added back coverage makes me feel more comfortable in my skin (literally and figuratively)! This stunner by Alice and Trixie, for example, provides me moderate front and back coverage. Try something like this and let me know what you think.

Wear it Like You Own it

Finally, take this opportunity to pledge that you’ll never say, “I can’t pull that off” ever again! It literally makes me sad when I get comments from people saying, “I love your outfit but I could never pull that off.” You can pull off anything as long as you do it with confidence! Remember that the next time your shopping for white jeans!

When dressing conservatively for the office, the midi length is always safe! I used to think the midi length couldn’t work for shorties like me, but it turns out I was doing it all wrong. If you’re on the petite side, consider high waisted midi length garments and crop tops. The high waist will automatically lengthen the appearance of your legs. Another quick tip is to stick with dark colors. They have a similar affect. You’ll be surprised how much longer and leaner you look in a navy or black skirt. This outfit is very easy to recreate and if you’re not comfortable bearing your shoulders at work, just wear a blazer.

I used to think white shoes were for clowns. Not really, but they can make your feet look sooo much bigger then they actually are! It wasn’t until I discovered this pair that I had a change of heart. This jumpsuit is a quintessential Free People garment! The ornate material looks like a beautiful neck scarf. I just LOVE the vibrant colors against the contrasting tie details. The fit on the other hand is comfortable and cool – suitable for the Puerto Vallarta climate. I slipped a lace bandeau underneath the jumpsuit for moderate coverage. This rendition was perfect for a tropical evening on the town.

Free People garments are an investment but they are worth it. Simply put, they are versatile. This jumpsuit is appropriate for day time or evening wear. Two Saturdays ago, Jonathan and I went out for brunch at Le Marais Bakery (the new Castro location). I swapped the bandeau for a sleeveless turtleneck and the high heel sandals for a pair of wedges. Luckily there was enough room for my “food baby.” Our eyes were definitely too big for our stomachs’! IF you find yourself in the Castro neighborhood at brunch hour, do yourself a favor and order the avocado toast at Le Marais.
