Begin with a cami or bandeau. I chose the latter because the fall months are actually San Francisco’s hottest, but if you’re in a cooler climate, go with a full length camisole. White or nude would work underneath a crochet shirt. You could also top your shirt with a longline or fur vest for added warmth. Sleeveless outerwear will take your ensemble from June to October in a matter of seconds!

If it were July or August, I would be pairing this shirt with white denim. But when white is out of the question, traditional blue is always a safe alternative! I dressed this top with bell bottoms to play off of the 70’s vibes already going on. As if the wide legs and bell sleeves were not enough, I polished off the ensemble with studded platform clogs. Crafted out of a fine knit nylon blend, this pretty little thing can go casual or dressy thanks to its decorative sheen. We had tickets to an afternoon concert in Berkeley, so I went the casual route and paired this pink striped sweater with distressed denim. Who would have thought that intentional tears in your jeans would be considered a fashion statement?! Aside from being very stylish, swapping out regular denim for distressed denim is one of the easiest ways to add flair to your ensemble. Anyway, although flats would have been totally appropriate, skinny jeans on a curvy five foot frame are not very forgiving. I gave myself a boost with platform clogs and accessorized with blue flash lens sunglasses and a wad of bubble gum!

About the platform clogs…I have had many people ask me if I can actually walk in these shoes. The answer is YES. In fact, I routinely walk the streets of San Francisco in these kicks, but suggest a practice spin before tackling the hills. Although five inches high, the platform construction provides support along the entire length of your foot – alleviating soreness in the balls of your feet (hallelluyah). Aside from the comfort level, they are only $35 at Forever 21 and also available in black suede. Keep calm and clog on!

I am happy to report the quality and fit exceeded my expectations. Flannel shirts often fit me like a boyfriend top – long and boxy. This plaid button down shirt is just the opposite. It fits like a glove and is the perfect length. For your reference, I am 5 feet tall and ordered a size 2 – if you have long arms or a long torso, size up. Anyway, with last minute plans to dine at the bar at Dosa, I paired this top with flare jeans and platform clogs. I chose white denim to dress things up a smidge, and accessorized with a wooden necklace and a fringe hand bag. Believe it or not, this fringey little thing is also from Amazon and makes a great boho statement piece.

The verdict is in – I give Amazon Fashion two thumbs up!

You can never own enough shift dresses. These little numbers are so versatile, and when in the right color, they’re suitable for wear all year round. A classic black and white version like this one, can take you day and night – hot or cold. For a whopping $17.90 I don’t think you’ll find a better option! One of my favorite color combos is tan and black, so it was a no brainer to clog around in my new studded platforms. Rather than adorning this look with statement jewelry, I hung a thin tassel scarf around my neck to create movement. Thin scarves are trending and act more like accent pieces than cold weather gear.

Finally, I added a pop of color to my barcode dress with a red fringe backpack – perfect for a day of exploring the city. I used to designate backbacks for traveling or hiking. I definitely missed out because these bags are great for everyday wear. By the time you set out with your belongings, your husband’s, and your dog’s, your purse suddenly weights 10 pounds. A few months ago I purchased this awesome fringe shrug from Nasty Gal. I had hoped for it to go over a chevron shirt, but that outfit did not turn out as planned. After the first failed attempt, I tried it with a denim skirt, a corduroy skirt, as well as a black on black ensemble. Still no luck, so it hung pretty and unworn in my closet for the last three months. It was not until I brought home these retro clogs that I decided to give the shrug another try. FINALLY it worked! Moral of the story: if you are going for a particular vibe, dive in head first. I was being too conservative when I originally styled this statement piece. I did not want to look too costume-y. Ironically, it looked best not only with a headpiece and clogs, but with flare jeans – I think we can all agree that bell bottoms epitomize 1970’s fashions. Great news fashionista, if you are ready to step out in funky 70’s garb, this shrug is now available in ivory, and I like it better than the one I own.
