Be Open to Outcomes

Navigating NYFW is not an exact science. Do not set the bar too high. Rather, go into the week with reasonable expectations to avoid the feeling of disappointment. You have to be a Kardashian to get invites to shows like Gucci or Oscar de la Renta. Catch my drift?! Take what you can get. I guarantee you will learn something new.

Be Patient

Patience is a virtue especially during New York Fashion Week. Invitations will come, but they might come at the last minute. As a result, check your email often! Speaking of patience, it was my plan to take these photos in New York City but mother nature had other plans. It snowed 10 plus inches and my photographer’s flights were cancelled.

Wear Comfortable Shoes

You will be on your feel ALL DAY LONG. And you will be walking on all types of terrain. From snow covered streets, slushy sidewalks, wet subway stairs, to show room floors, you will walk it. Treat your feet to comfortable yet stylish shoes. I am an avid heel wearer. It makes me uncomfortable when everyone towers over me, but I learned a little trick. When the toe is pointed, the heel height does not matter. A pointed to will make the shoe look like an extension of your leg. Try it! It saved me blisters and foot therapy.

When you shop for an adult playsuit during the winter, look for sleeves. They don’t need to be full length, but at least 3/4 length is a good idea. During the spring, gravitate towards shorter sleeves and light weight fabrics. The summer months are the most conducive to “romp” around. As a result, the options are endless. Consider sleeveless, open-back, and colorful designs. Finally, during the fall, choose boot-friendly styles and go back to 3/4 length sleeves.

Today we feature a bell sleeve romper from Current Clothing. I will wear this little number all year round. Burgundy, a hybrid of red and brown, is a neutral in my book. Whether you pair it with black or brown accents, it looks fabulous. Thanks to the “cold front” (lame!) in San Francisco, I knew a fur vest would keep me warm. Bare legs were not an option, so I slipped into a pair of printed stockings and my over the knee boots (look for less here). Just like that this leg baring item transformed into a cool weather ensemble. This is the perfect Friday night outfit. We finally tried The Saratoga last weekend, and this is what I wore. If you live in the city, get there sooner than later but make a reservation first. The burger and parmesan fries will rock your world!

In my world, an outfit is incomplete without a statement piece. You’ll never catch me out and about in a solid garment without a necklace, scarf, or a vest. Maybe those are not realistic expectations for everyone to live up to but I am a fashion blogger by trade! The good news is OTK boots have the potential to fill that void. Here me out.

You can never go wrong with a classic shift dress. It is a very forgiving cut as it is neither too fitted nor too loose. I scored this faux suede number from Black Swan Clothing. The neutral hue is perfect for the fall and the keyhole detail adds a nice touch – it is certainly a basic with a twist! I styled this dress with a multicolored fur vest for some added fun, then polished off the look with complimentary over the knee boots. Let’s get real, the vest and the shoes are the “wow factor’ in this look.

Versatile

It is a lot easier to justify a purchase when you know you are getting a lot out of it. When it comes to a fur vest, you are getting a statement piece, and a layering piece. In the featured ensemble, the vest is what makes the outfit pop. In all honesty, this dress would have been a little too plain without the addition of the vest. When I am not using this item as an accessory, I am using it to layer and keep warm. There is nothing cozier than bundling up in fur anything on a brisk autumn day.

Coverage

Perhaps the best reason to invest in a fur vest is because it can provide added coverage during times of need. The last time I styled this piece, I wore it over a sheer crop top. While I am attracted to all things sheer and cropped, I was a lot more confident hittin’ the streets with an extra layer of coverage. The same goes for bodycon skirts and dresses. Maybe you’re a fan of the item but you’d rather shield your assets. A fur vest came come to the rescue!

Glamourous

There is something so prestigious about fur garments. The first thing that comes to mind are the affluent women of Pacific Heights stepping out of their luxury cars in the 1960’s covered up in fur jackets and stoles. The good news is you do not have to drive a fancy vehicle or spend an arm and a leg to look just as glamorous! With an abundant assortment of faux fur clothing on the market today, a faux fur vest is a simple yet effective way to take your ensemble from a seven to a 10.

High Waisted Bottoms

I would not be caught dead in a crop top without high waisted bottoms. Truthfully, I am very modest and feel the most comfortable when my midriff is covered. If you can relate, the easiest way to dress a crop top is by pairing it with high waisted bottoms. Whether in the form of shorts, pants, or a skirt, they will all get the job done. Style Tip: “High waisted” means different things to different retailers. Before venturing out for the perfect coordinate, pack the shirt in your purse.

Top it Off

Now that you have the whole cropped thing figured out, if you are feeling uneasy about the sheer fabric, begin with a lace bralette. If you can find one the same color as the top, that is ideal, but nude will also work. After trying many, this convertible bralette from Macy’s is my all-time favorite. If your admirers can see what’s under there, you might as well make it something pretty to look at! For added coverage, top off your ensemble with a vest or cape. Slowly but surely working fall pieces into my looks, I topped this outfit off with a fur vest.

Feminize

I’ve said it once and I am saying it again, feminine details make all the difference. Pearls are my go-to but pops of pink or a dainty purse will all have the same affect. I chose the latter, and rocked a turquoise Chanel bag.  Now do you believe me when I say, sheer and cropped do not have to be racy?!

You can never go wrong with a monochromatic look. Just like pairing black and black, you can do the same with virtually every color in the rainbow. Already stocked up on enough brown faux fur, it was only natural to scoop up this gray vest. For today’s outfit of the day (#ootd), I kept things simple with a gray color scheme, and styled this fuzzy vest with a faux suede tunic. Only five feet tall, this top fit me as a mini dress, but it could be worn as a long-line top too. To create contrast, I accessorized with sheer black lace stockings, an ombré clutch, and suede over-the-knee boots – what a difference a little lace makes! I polished off the look with gray and gold jewelry and created a smoky eye with the Lorac Pro Palette.

In the ensemble below, I paired my red fur vest with a black high-waisted midi skirt (available at Current Clothing but similar here). I find high-waisted bottoms particularly flattering for petite women. They do not cut off our already short torsos! Instead, they hit in just the right place (if you live in a colder climate, try high-waisted vegan leather pants). Although any black top would work, I decided to tuck in a champagne blouse (available at Current Clothing but similar here) for some variation. With champagne being in the same color family as gold, I could get away with using a leopard print purse and I like the fur and fur thing. To polish off this look, I threw on my suede and leather peep-toe booties (on sale for under $60!). Again, any black shoe would be a-ok, but when you are styling faux leather and fur, why not go for an edgy look? Plus, the more mixed media, the better.
