With a few cocktail occasions already on the calendar, when I spotted this retro style striped dress, at Current Clothing, I was immediately sold! The hip hugging silhouette flatters in all of the right places, while the midi length balances out the slim fit and open back detail. My favorite kind of dress – classic with a twist! If you have an athletic body, a striped dress like this can potentially give you the hourglass figure you’ve always admired. Just make sure the darker hue hits at the natural waistline.

 
A piece like this is bold by itself. For that reason I kept the accessories to a minimum, and stuck with a conservative color palette. By simply incorporating white touches (a pair of earrings and a bracelet) the whole look was sharpened. Because I can never resist a pop of color, I styled this look with a red striped clutch and red sole shoes. You can never go wrong with red, white and blue!

This is certainly the case when it comes to this green bodycon midi dress! While I often find myself collecting statement pieces, it is just as important to add simple garments to your wardrobe. A reliable knit dress can go a long way, especially when it is a solid color like so. Layer up with a longline vest or a sleeveless sweater, or hang a scarf around your neck and throw on your favorite hat. Think of it as a blank canvas – the simpler the dress, the easier it is to accessorize with. Still swooning over my Southwestern printed shooties, I figured they would add just enough of a funk element to this otherwise plain ensemble. Between the shoes, a multicolored clutch, and a rhinestone necklace, I think it did just the trick!

If you are on the petite side, midi skirts can be a little bit tricky. We are already blessed with short legs, so we tend to compensate by wearing garments that give off an elongated appearance (jumpsuits, high-waisted pants, “sky high” high heels, etc.). That is why it is very important to make sure your midi skirt hits at mid-calf…even if it means a trip to the tailor! Before styling the dress below, I had it shortened about 3.5 inches. Once you’ve arrived at the appropriate length, try pairing your midi with nude shoes – they do a great job lengthening your legs.

I highly recommend a fitted top when styling a full midi skirt. That is why I was drawn to the “Lead a Charmed Life Midi Dress.” Featuring a fitted bodice, spaghetti straps, and open back design, feel flirty and sassy while wearing this little number! To breakup all of the pink, I threw on a chunky pearl necklace, and polished off the look with my rose gold watch, an embellished leather bracelet, and my point-toe nude pumps.
