This retro little number is a modern-day take on the t-shirt dress – a “basic with a twist.” The material is soft and stretchy, while the princess seams and fit and flare silhouette are ultra flattering on the hips. Had I thought of it earlier, I would have styled this polka dot dress with a pillbox hat. Who do I think I am, Marilyn Monroe or something?! One must pair a classic print with equally classy accessories. That is where the pearls come into the picture…

To me, pearl jewelry is the equivalent of a neutral coat. It matches with everything. You already heard my schpiel about this glamorous purse, but I want to share a story with you regarding the sunglasses. They are certainly a splurge item (dupe available here), but they did help land me a spot in Harper’s Bazar during NYFW…just sayin’. Anyway, have you ever experienced buyer’s remorse? When you buy something and then feel unconfident as to whether or not you made the right decision afterwards? Usually this feeling is self-inflicted, but just the opposite occurred when I purchased these designer frames. The sales associate encouraged me to return the sunglasses after wearing them for the weekend because “[ I ] could only photograph such a statement piece once or twice.” AWKWARD. I can appreciate a salesperson not being too salesperson-y, but this person was causing me buyer’s remorse before I even left the store. I am happy to report that I’m thrilled with my purchase, and I have already shot them a handful of times. When you know, YOU KNOW. I guess that’s love!

Growing up my family and I had a tradition of vegging out in the “TV Room” for the Kentucky Derby. This may come as a surprise considering I was raised in Connecticut. It’s not ‘till I attended LSU that I picked up my true “Southern Charm.” Haha. All jokes aside, I remember finding derby fashion fascinating – even back then! It was the one time of year the ladies would suit up in decadent headwear. I probably should have made an effort to go to the races when I lived in Louisiana but sadly I didn’t. Regardless, I’ve kept the tradition going but in San Francisco with my better half.

So what does a California girl wear to host a Derby party?! PLAID of course. I bet you didn’t see that one coming! No really though, I love this top because you can wear it so many ways. Picture this: high waist black denim and a Gucci belt. Insert heart-eyes emoji! But it wouldn’t be “Derby Day” without a dress or skirt as glamorous as this pleated maxi. The only thing missing from this ensemble is a fascinator. But don’t worry, I’ll be breaking that out on Saturday. Now wish me luck getting Jonathan to dress in his seersucker suit!

I know, that is half the fun, but I know I am not the only #bosslady who wishes there were more hours in the day.

Fanny packs, belt bags, whatever you want to call ’em, they’re BAAACCCKKK. It is funny that sometimes the most unexpected items resurface on the fashion circuit. Ten years ago you could not pay me to rock a fanny pack. Fast forward to 2018 and I jump at the opportunity to. I am in LOVE with this sequin version. Just like that a traditionally “casual” item can go from day to night.

Hoods all the way

Hoods, hoods, HOODS! If it doesn’t have a hood, do not purchase it. Hoods are so handy when you forget your umbrella or unexpectedly get caught in a shower. All of these will keep you dry on the fly.

Secure Pockets

Good pockets will pay off. Make sure your jackets have functional pockets that fasten closed. Webbing or netting will not keep the water out. Ideally you want a large pocket that zips or buttons when not in use.

Every day Jacket

Consider styles that you enjoy wearing on a day-to-day basis. Durable fabrics can get pricey, so choose something you would be comfortable wearing even when it is not raining.

There is no better item to have on hand for a spontaneous occasion. Having a collection of varying lengths will provide you with even more options when you’re in an outfit pickle.

This feather hem dress is a playful take on the traditional LBD. You cannot help but crack a smile while wearing this little thing. Featuring a mock neck and long sleeve design, this item is perfect for your fall functions and can take you through the winter equally as well. I’m thinking fishnets and a fur caplet once the weather permits! For this occasion I dressed this piece with my go-to ladylike accessories: pearls.
