Mix Textures

Mixing textures is the easiest way, across the board, to add dimension to your ensemble. But dimension isn’t always necessary. When styling neutrals or a monochromatic look, however, it becomes very important. Picture this, a white cotton top, with white cotton pants, and a white cotton sweater. Boring, right?! Now picture this: a white cotton top, with chevron white pants, and lace sweater. Clearly the latter ensemble is a more interesting look.

Opposites Attract

Normally when I style a look I come up with a theme for the outfit. Is it edgy, feminine, or simply chic? After I establish the theme, I stick with it to piece together the outfit. But when I work with neutrals or a monochromatic scheme, I always mix unexpected items together. In this case, the pants SCREAM boho. I mean those flare legs and fringe hem say it all. But to keep people curious, I dressed these jeans with sequin stiletto heels. They don’t really to go together…but that’s the point!

Act Shady

An all white outfit does not have to be snow white head to toe. What I mean is, it’s ok, rather, I encourage you to mix different shades of white (or whatever color your are working with). I did not even consider whether or not the shades of ivory would perfectly match when I coordinated this look. In fact, I was hoping they wouldn’t. I cannot walk out out of the house in any old t-shirt and jeans. Everyone knows how to physically put on a top and pull up a pair of pants. But what makes me different and defines who I am as a fashionista is that I style ALL of the ensembles that I wear. I carefully curate every outfit so that the garments and the matching accessories make a statement. I am definitely not bragging, rather I am just being honest. It is my job to inspire people like you through the clothes that I wear! So if I share a look with you that does consist of a top and jeans, I can guarantee that it’ll be a good one!

Hopefully you agree that this velvet bodysuit and flare jeans combo is not your average top and jeans outfit! Better yet, it will make you appear a foot taller with hardly any effort. Petite women rejoice! It is only human nature to want what you cannot have. Luckily all it takes is a good pair of platforms (obsessed with these) and flare jeans to give you the long legs you’ve never had! Now that you know my short person “tricks,” I would love to learn yours!

Bodysuits are hot garments for the summer. But as I alluded to in this post, finding one that fits well and is comfortable is another story! When they fit correctly, they are both sexy and chic. I love dressing a bodysuit with boyfriend denim and skirts. They lay so perfectly underneath fitted and loose garments a like. One of my biggest pet peeves is excess bulk underneath a bodycon garment.

There is nothing crisper than neutrals on neutrals during the summer months. When I found this beige bodysuit at Current Clothing, I knew it would be perfect with my new rose gold heels. I love the plunging neckline and strappy back. I paired it with a white fitted midi skirt. This length can be hard to wear when you’re blessed with a petite frame. If you are in the same boat, always ravitate towards high waisted midis. This one is high rise and features a back slit. Both details help with the height issue! Due to my love affair with rose gold, I took advantage of the opportunity to wear tassel statement earrings and matching sunnies. Fun Fact, Jonathan discovered these sunglasses for me. Who knew he could play the role of personal shopper too?!

This striped version is perfection and only $59. The fit is very sweet. High cut shorts that drape like a skirt. The top is darling as it features an open back and ties at the waist. Now let’s talk about the color: taupe. I love a neutral hue because it’s like a blank canvas when it comes to accessorizing. I took advantage of the opportunity to add a pop of color with these ombré tassel earrings. Although unnecessary down south, this look would be cute with a jean jacket and booties. Everyday Wear

I’ve said it once, and I am saying it again; stock up on shirts while they are on sale. It is so easy to gravitate towards dresses and skirts but tops are extremely versatile. 1 reminds me of vacation! The hues are so happy and the bubble sleeves are so 2017. You already know my stance on cropped denim so consider 4 a wardrobe staple. Free People apparel doesn’t go on sale often. Take advantage of it while you can.

Swimwear

Bikinis are a thing of the past. The one-piece is the new two-piece and I’m ok with it. How about this hot little peplum suit (9)?! I never new a solid black bathing suit could be so sharp. On the other end of the spectrum, 8 is a playful take on an oldie but a goodie: camoflauge!

Accessories

In my book, investing in accessories is always a good idea. They have the ability to transform an ok outfit into a fashion masterpiece. I have no doubt x would accomplish just that. Globe earrings (13) are trending but this is the first multicolor pair to catch my eye. If you’re going to splurge on a unique summer item, consider this wooden purse (11). I love it because it reminds me of a modern day basket bag.

It is safe to assume the fringe trend is here to stay. From dresses, purses, shoes, and jewelry incorporate a fringe favorite into your outfit and effortlessly elevate your style game. This yellow pair is sure to make a splash.

8. Red Dots

You can never go wrong with a bold pair of statement earrings. They have the ability to transform a bland outfit into a fashion masterpiece in a matter of seconds. Picture these pretty red things with the maxi dress above.

9. Black and White Tassels

“I am over tassel earrings,” said no one ever. Unless you have been hiding under a rock, then you have probably noticed your fashion icons sporting fabulous tassel earrings. This black and white pair is a great transitional item for the spring.

The Cut

Choose a bodysuit wisely. Carefully consider your assets and buy one that will flatter your unique body type. Maybe you have toned arms. Show them off with a sleeveless or halter neckline. Maybe you are proud of your back. Look for a backless or sheer back bodysuit. The more confident you are on the inside, the more fabulous you’ll look on the outside.

The Color

If you’re still warming up to the bodysuit trend, consider a black or monochrome ensemble. Less is definitely more when you’re wearing a potentially racy garment. In the featured look I dressed in burgundy top to bottom. The solid jewel tones created a polished and elegant feel. Don’t fixate on the colors matching perfectly. As long as they are in the same family, they’ll work together.

The Bottom

When you have a lot going on on the upper half of your body, it’s best to keep thinks simple down below. Choosing a midi length garment is an easy way to remain modest. Consider a midi skirt, or cropped pants. I chose the latter and dressed this burgundy bodysuit with matching culottes (only $12!). If you are under 5′ 2″, I recommend wearing nude heels with anything midi length to elongate the appearance of your legs.
