Exhausting

Imagine a job interview that lasts for five consecutive days. That’s NYFW! It is exhausting physically and emotionally. Your body is tired from getting up early and going to sleep late and your feet hurt from your high heel shoes. You’re emotionally drained after “performing” several days/hours in a row. But if there is one time of year for you to put your best foot forward, this is it. It’s prime time to nurture brand relationships and meet the face behind the @ address.

Fun

I love Instagram because it allows like-minded individuals to connect all over the world. New York Fashion Week is like a big Instagram meet up – the camaraderie is wonderful. It is SO much fun meeting and conversing with the girls behind the blogs. You know who you are…!

Expensive

I’m gonna be blunt…NYFW is expensive. Between plane tickets, Ubers, accommodations, and meals, it adds up quick. Never mind the cost of “looking good” and staying on brand. While collaborations are helpful during fashion week, if you’re a control freak like me, you’re going to spend a pretty penny on apparel. Just remember, you get out of it as much as you put in!

Rewarding

Being recognized feels good. Whether it is by a follower or another person in the digital marketing space. It has the same affect! It means that your style is appreciated – a reminder that hard work pays off. This year I returned from NYFW feeling recharged and driven. I was featured in Harper’s Bazaar, The CUT, and The Independent, praised for my “Street Style” fashion. Pinch me! This is just the beginning…

The only thing better than wide leg pants are lace-up wide leg pants! These party pants are a conversation starter! The fit is ultra flattering featuring a high-rise waist and fit and flare silhouette. If you are looking for a way to accentuate your cures, this is it! Aside from the good shape, the fabric is smooth and comfortable. Petite girls rejoice…the cropped hem actually fits me ankle length. Now styling them is simple. All you need is a reliable crop top. Think white, or beige.

A modern take on a vintage bowler bag, this pretty little thing will have the compliments rolling in. Featuring a multicolor pattern and rhinestone closure, this will not be the last time I tote this playful item. So many vanity bags are not suitable for everyday use. Many lack interior side pockets or enough space to store an iPhone plus. I’m happy to report this bowling ball bag has it all and a detachable shoulder strap. For only $48, there is no better way to add some fun to your fall outfit. It is hard not to smile while carrying this bag!

Now just because I have the bag, it doesn’t mean I am about to rock the matching shoes. C’mon now, ME in bowler shoes?! I don’t think so! Remember, this is the girl who didn’t even own a pair of flats for more than half her life! Anyway, it was my attempt to bring out all of the fall hues in the purse with a “striking” fall look (ok, maybe I am getting carried away with the play on words!). These wide leg pants and gold top do just that! High-waist pants are always a good idea for short legged folk like me. But if you are not comfortable in platform shoes, you will definitely need to make a trip to the tailor. You win some and you loose some…#shortpeopleproblems.

With more than one business casual occasion on this month’s agenda, when I found these high-waisted wide leg pants at H&M, I knew they would come in handy. Constructed out of gray plaid twill, these pants would match nicely with white, black, or gray! Rather than sticking to solids, I shook things up by incorporating lace into the mix. This black lace crop top hit at just the right spot, perfectly displaying the button details and front creases. Similar to mixing prints, mixing textures is another easy way to add some oomph to your workday ensemble. Sticking to a monochromatic color scheme, I accessorized with black diamond pave earrings and a matching bracelet. I completed the look with black peep toe booties and my favorite glitzy box clutch, courtesy of my sista from another mista, Ava.

Just like I mentioned in the post “Bell Bottoms: They’re baaack!,” if you haven’t yet noticed these retro bottoms making a comeback, consider this your warning! When I spotted the I’d Suede So Taupe Flare Pants on the lulu*s website, I was ecstatic. I think it is pretty obvious by now that I cannot resist a comfortable pair of pants, but a wide-leg suede bell bottom takes my pant obsession to a whole new level. These pull-on hot pants are constructed out of spandex microfiber suede. As comfortable and lightweight as they come, if you enjoy rocking a hip hugging silhouette, these my friends, are for you. I stuck to basics, and tucked in a surplice black top with these flare leg bottoms, and made it interesting with a braided metallic belt. I accessorized further with black tassel earrings and wedge sandals. Depending on your height (I am only 5 feet tall), you may be able to get away with flats.

Lovin’ the $39 price tag, I might have to snag the black pair while supplies last!

Free People, the Red Dress Boutique, and Forever 21 are just a few of the many retailers currently carrying bell bottom lace bottoms. But no matter where they’re from or what color they are, they all have one thing in common. They’re HOT! How perfect would a white pair be for a bride-to-be to wear during her bachelorette party?! Being a huge fan of black apparel in general, it was an easy decision to make when I purchased mine. Plus, black is acceptable all months of the year. Since fancy is always better, I dressed these bottoms up with a black peplum top. I thought this cut was a nice balance between the sheer fabric and slim fit pant. Trying to keep things rather simple, I accessorized lightly with black tassel earrings ($9.99 from H&M) and my Gucci purse. Lace pants make enough of a statement – no need to compete.

If you’re ready to shake your groove thing on the dance floor, and show ’em how [you] do it now…get yourself a pair of lace disco pants! Yeah yeah…

In an effort to stay in the flavor of this “Hallmark holiday,” I broke out my watermelon high-waisted wide leg pants. Although they are from last season, check out this way cuter pair of trousers. A bold pair of pants is a good item to have in your closet for one of those “I have nothing to wear” moments. Pair them with a black top, and just like that, you’re dressed and ready to go. I styled my red bottoms with a black long sleeve crop top with ruffle detail, although any fitted black top would have been adequate. Same goes for the trousers mentioned above. To complete the look, I put on a pearl statement necklace (add your email address here and get notified when it’s back in stock), “Peekaboo” pearl earrings, and a timeless Gucci purse.
