I have a thing for pants. I would choose a pair of funky trousers over a skirt or dress any day! It’s probably because I’m so active and they’re easier to move around in. Anyway, this pair reminds me of my favorite televisions series, Dancing With the Stars. I have been a fan of frilly costumes since season one so you can imagine my excitement when I discovered this pair. Despite my admiration for the show, you’ll never catch me on the dance floor. Sadly, I have no rhythm (insert laughing emoji). We’ll call these pants my “everyday pair” instead!

Frilly pants are awesome for many reasons…do I even need to explain?! The high waist, however, is at the top of the list! High rise garments give you options. Dress them with a crop top for a playful ensemble or not for a classic one. But aside from outfit options, they give shorties like me long legs effortlessly (after the tailor chops six inches off, of course! #shortpeopleproblems). For today’s look, I styled these suckers with a long sleeve crop top of a similar tiered design. It is a lot of fabric but I love how the ruffles create movement on the upper and lower half of the ensemble. Sometimes less is not more. In true “over-doer” spirit, I polished off the look with pearl embellished sandals, shoulder dusters, and a chunky side braid.

I love olive green because it is season-proof. Hence the reason I am so excited to share this army green midi skirt. This flirty item will spice up your wardrobe whenever you decide to wear it. Featuring a high waist and cut-out hem detail, you will not slip under the radar in this little number. Army green and black are a match made in heaven. The dynamic duo is polished and chic. Inspired by traditional military styles, I took advantage of the opportunity to mix black leather into the ensemble. Leave it to Zara to carry a “leather effect” top with frilly details.

No matter what the occasion is, I always incorporate my own unique flair. Thanks to these lace-up lucite sandals, this is easy to accomplish. Now that I have styled them three different ways (last seen here and here), are they growing on you yet?! Regardless, I polished off the look with a classic black purse and camo colored earrings. One of the easiest ways to “winter up” a look is to incorporate black. Whether it is in the form of a statement piece or an accent piece, it’ll darken up the mood of the ensemble. For example, white denim with black booties. Or, a blush dress with black stockings. If black is not your jam, consider other dark hues like red or navy. But color isn’t the only way to season-proof an outfit. Texture can have the same affect. Do you remember the burgundy romper from a couple of weeks ago? The fur vest and suede boots were all that it needed.

Today we feature, stonewash jeans commonly referred to as, “summer jeans.” With two key items, a blazer and printed tights, I will transform them into winter wearables. A classic blazer is suitable for wear all year round, but in this case it helps balance out the light hue on my lower half. Printed tights will provide added warmth as well as an edgy vibe. This layering technique will work with all pants, but it is particularly appealing with cropped and/or distressed denim. There is something about that peek-a-boo lace, fishnet, or diamond print.

Getting dressed in the winter can be difficult. You do not want to sacrifice style, but you do not want to freeze either. A statement coat in a versatile hue is ideal. Treat animal prints like neutrals and you’ll never dress in a boring outfit again! When I found this coat in Florence, I knew it would elevate my cold weather looks in Prague. The leopard print front is timeless, and the emerald back adds an edgy flair.

If a statement overcoat is too much for you, jazz up a traditional parka with untraditional winter accessories. Consider a faux fur stole, or a shapka hat. Catch my drift?! Underneath my leopard print coat, I dressed in a matching emerald off the shoulder top, and ruffle hem trousers. Even in the 35 degree weather, I was ready to take on the day!

When your closet begins to overflow, request a “Clean Out Kit” to your doorstep and begin packing away your once loved fashions. Send back the bag with the included prepaid shipping label, and begin earning cash for the pieces you are no longer wearing. Professional buyers set the asking price, similar to a high-end consignment shop, however you have one week to make adjustments as you please. When consumers shop your goods, use the money to purchase gently used styles for yourself on the thredUP storefront, or transfer the funds to your PayPal account. If items in your kit do not sell, reclaim your possessions or allow the hire-ups to donate your garments to a good cause. If this is not “cleaning out your closet made easy,” I do not know what is!

Over the weekend I took this pair of Alice and Olivia shorts for a test run. These babies are valued at over $150, and I scored them for just under $40 at thredUP. They were beautifully packaged and in excellent condition – it doesn’t get any sweeter than that! I styled them with the same white blouse from last week’s post “Denim Shorts and Flatform Sandals.” If you look closely, you’ll notice that the top looks completely different. That is what happens when you wear it the correct way the second time around! I forgot to affix the ruffle over my biceps in last week’s post…oops. Anyway, I polished off the look with a pair of lace-up gladiator wedges and a contrasting blue purse. After wearing out my cognac gladiators last summer, it seemed very fitting to welcome the spring with a new black pair.

Over the next two days I am going to demonstrate different ways to rock this standout piece, starting with a jacquard skirt. You may recognize this printed mini from an earlier blog post, but I couldn’t resist styling it again with over the knee boots and this vegan leather jacket. Perfect for girls night out or an evening of cruffin tasting (I wore this outfit during the Mr. Holmes Bakehouse fall menu release party), you will get noticed in this ensemble. If the a-line thing doesn’t suit your fancy, pair it with a bold pencil skirt for an edgy look instead. With already a lot going on, I polished off the look with a solid black top and black tassel earrings. Stay tuned for The Black Fringe Jacket round two.
