The summer in San Francisco doesn’t begin until September. Believe it or not, June and July are the coldest months of the year. In fact, last night we turned the heat on to get the “chill” out of the house. While it seems odd that the rest of the country is summer lovin’ in shorts and flip flops, we have incredible weather the rest of the year. So what does one wear during the infamous “June Gloom?!” Summer black is the short answer.
It used to be that black was considered a winter color and white a summer hue. Luckily there are no such things as “rules” in 21st century fashion. I wear black all year round because it’s simply chic…literally and figuratively. When you take matching out of the equation, coordinating an ensemble is suddenly easy. Although a true season-proof hue, there are a few things to consider when dressing in black during the “summer.”
To begin, show some skin. While slacks and sleeves are great during the winter, try skirts or shorts during June and July. Next, consider adding a pop of color with a bold lip or neon shoe. This is one of the easiest ways to incorporate a sunny glow into your look. Today we feature an appliqué top and bodycon skirt. The mesh design is what I refer to as, “summer black! Although a strappy sandal would have been totally appropriate, I played it safe with black booties. It was raining as we took these photos! I wasn’t kidding when I said, “June Gloom…”
