Dressing up for happy hour makes it even more happy! My pink pants are only $56 from Asos and available in regular and petite sizes. I am wearing the 2 petite (size up one size) and they fit me like a GLOVE. The high rise waist is ultra flattering and the flare legs will elongate the appearance of your legs. I styled them with a glitzy crop top, but I am extra and I’m proud of it! Don’t be afraid to tone them down with a sweater or classic bodysuit. Top it with a blazer for a polished 9-5 ensemble.

Le Marais Bakery boasts three locations in San Francisco – each with its own character, but all with the same charm! Transport yourself to France over a croissant and latte at this SF “hot spot.” The pastries are flaky and delicious, and the brunch menu is extensive. Featuring all the French classics like CR’Q Monsieur, other notable items include: decadent avocado toast, nutella French toast, and the ability to “build” your own board of proteins, sweets, and everything in between. Don’t fret if you live outside of San Francisco. You can now order frozen Le Marais pastries to your door from Williams Sonoma! One word: DIVINE.

Just steps from the ever popular Union Street, in the Cow Hollow neighborhood, sits Toasty – my new favorite breakfast nook. Featuring a divine menu of all food things Californians know and love ( avocado toast, chia seed pudding, and acai bowls to name a few) prepare to leave feeling totally satisfied and ready for the next time. There’s only so much goodness you can eat in one sitting!

Get Toasty

Totally “dressed” to impress, never have I ever enjoyed eating whole wheat sourdough bread so often. For the traditionalist, the Naked is for you. While you can never go wrong with traditional #avotoast, the Eggy features all of that plus poached eggs. When your sweet tooth gets the best of you, satisfy the craving with the Breckie – nutella toast topped with strawberry and banana. Heartier options include the salmon, prosciutto, and bruschetta (pictured below) toasts.

The Extras

Acai bowls are my jam. No really though, I could live off of ’em and some days I do. Imagine a decadent smoothie prepared in a bowl, topped with: banana, strawberries, granola, coconut, and peanut butter upon request. They are the perfect hybrid of sweet and savory. Not to mention extremely refreshing after an intense workout! My quality of life improved (can you say #dramatic?!) when Toasty opened its doors for business. This stuff is the REAL deal. No powder packets are blended here (that stuff tastes like chalk). Only fresh ingredients are used and the result is lip-smacking good. But if Acai doesn’t suit your fancy, chow down on some chia seed pudding and a cup o joe instead. You will not be disappointed.

Toasty is serving up avocado toast and acai Tuesday-Friday 7:30 am – 6:00 pm, Saturday and Sunday 9:00 am – 4:00 pm, and available via Uber eats on weekdays. What are you waiting for?! Go get “toasted” at 2760 Octavia Street, San Francisco. Hope to see you there!

The Lowdown

So what makes Chubby Noodle a San Francisco brunch hotspot? The very enticing $39 all you can eat special! For 90 minutes, order whatever your heart desires off of the food and beverage menu. This is not a drill! Between 14 dim sum items and four adult beverages, rest assured you’ll leave completely satisfied and a little bit chubbier. As far as the atmosphere, it’s lively and loud. I do not recommend bringing Bubbie…unless she is a fan of hip hop music! Just take my word for it…

The Drinks

The only “girly” things in life that I typically do not enjoy are mimosas and sparkling wines. I know, it’s weird, but just the thought of brut gives me a headache. Well, they must have spiked the drinks with something magical because I indulged in the the “Hoang Mimosa” and “Jose Rose Sangria” and thoroughly enjoyed both. Also on the menu is “Cold Tea” aka sake, or Sapporo beer.

The Chubby Noodles

Once you have your beverage in hand and you’re jammin’ to some sweet tunes, it is time to EAAAATTT. It’s important to note that we (Jonathan and I) did not eat the pork or shrimp items and the chef was very accommodating! I would not go as far as asking for gluten free/vegan options though – that’s what Seed + Salt is for (insert winking emoji)! Anyway, stand out items include: szechuan green beans (crack in vegetable form), kung pao wings, chilled ramen, and chubby chicken chow mein (surprise surprise!).

The Verdict

Overall, I give chubby noodle two thumbs up. Will you spend less or more money at a traditional dim sum restaurant? Not really. Regardless, the all you can eat brunch is a great way to dine as a first timer. Now that I have my favorite dishes, I’ll look forward to enjoying them in the comfort of my own home. Introducing Sol Food, the Bay Area’s premier Puerto Rican cafetería. Just a 10 minute jaunt over the Golden Gate Bridge, sits your new favorite lunch spot. I can honestly say this is the best Puerto Rican cuisine you’ll find on the mainland. But don’t take my word for it, experience it for yourself, the line and all!

The Plantains

Confession: I am a plantain-aholic…I wish I was kidding! Sol Food has taken my addiction to a whole new level offering both sweet and savory options. Inka whaaaat? While the sweet plantains are a luscious fried treat, the “tostones” are OUT OF THIS WORLD. I refer to them as Latin latkes. Smashed green plantain cakes fried and topped with garlic. My stomach just growled typing that out. Wash them down with orange-mango iced tea.

The Beans

It is no secret that rice and beans are a staple in the Latin American diet. Every country has their own version, their own “secret sauce.” Mark my words, Puerto Rican pink beans are exquisite. And this is coming from a Colombian! Perfectly seasoned and garnished with green olives, never have I ever enjoyed a vegetarian side dish as much as the frijoles rosados at Sol Food. But don’t be afraid to try the black beans sometime…they’re second best.

The Meat

Slow cooked to perfection, the boneless chicken thighs are my favorite meat option. You can cut ’em with a fork – they’re so tenderly delicious. For the heavier eater, the half chicken or steak and onions are both good options. One day I’ll try a sandwich on the famed pressed bread. Regardless, remember to top your entree with “Pique” sauce. I’ve never been one to “need” ketchup with my fries, or Tabasco with my tacos until I discovered Pique sauce. I’m officially THAT girl. Luckily it’s available for purchase by the bottle. Buy the 24 oz and thank me later.

Get a taste of the Caribbean with some Puerto Rican cuisine in the heart of Marin County. Sol Food Mill Valley is located at 401 Miller Avenue open daily Monday through Friday 10am – 9pm and 9am – 9pm on the weekends. Arrive early and leave completely satisfied. X Marks the Spot

On the corner of Union and Stockton Street sits Tony’s Pizza Napoletana – home to the world’s best pizza. But don’t take my word for it! Tony Gemignani is a 12-time World Pizza Champion. Now that’s a lot of good za! Featuring a four page menu of specialty pizzas and provisions, even the pickiest eaters will find a pie made for them. It’s sort of a right of passage to wait in line at least one hour for brunch/lunch in San Francisco, but I’d wait three for this stuff!

Antipasti

Tony’s was one of the first restaurants I ate at upon my arrival to San Francisco in 2013. I was sold after my first bite but ironically it wasn’t until 2016 that I discovered coccolis. Literally crack on a plate. There are no words to adequately describe the deliciousness. Hopefully you’ve been to New Orleans and chowed down on Cafe du Monde’s beignets. Think of coccolis as the Italian savory version. Fried dough pockets sprinkled in garlic salt, stuffed with burrata cheese. My sweet tooth is legit but these heavenly little things might just be my favorite food ON EARTH. Simply put, start with that.

Insalate

I feel less guilty loading up on carbs when there are also some greens on my plate. For that reason I always order the Little Italy salad with my coccolis. It’s impressive how many people one Little Italy salad can feed. Not bad for $11. Topped with walnuts, gorgonzola and shaved parmesan, this classic concoction will pair nicely with all pies on the menu. Additional selections include: kale, caesar, and quinoa salads.

The Best Pizza EVER

There are dozens upon dozens of uniquely curated pizzas on the menu. Do yourself a favor and check out the menu ahead of time to avoid feeling overwhelmed. If you have any left over questions (you won’t have leftover food), your server will help you and hopefully his name is Mario. Anyway, if margheritas (the pizzas) are your jam, drop everything and Uber to 1570 Stockton Street like yesterday! Believe it or not, only 73 of these award winning pizzas are prepared daily. Been there ate that. No really, it’s delicious, but the St. Louis is my personal favorite! Cooked to absolute perfection, this pie consists of sweet tomato sauce and provel cheese on top of a cracker thin crust. I substitute the provel for traditional mozzarella and top it with garlic and basil. It’s out of this world. Rest assured that no crumbs are left behind. Other noteworthy pies include the: Tartufo, Honey Pie, and Detroit style pizzas.

Tony’s is open Wednesday through Sunday 12:00 – 10:00 pm and Monday 12:00 – 11 pm. Plan your meals accordingly.  In other words, don’t roll up on a Tuesday. There is always a line, but if you don’t want to wait more than an hour, arrive no later than 11:30 am. Tony’s Pizza Napoletana, shamelessly making your so-called best pizza place second best one joint at a time!

With that being said, it is my goal to amp up the Food section on my blog with an emphasis on the attire! I’ll begin with one of my all-time favorites. Tucked away along Union Street in Cow Hollow sits Capannina – my go-to Italian restaurant. If you’re looking for spaghetti and meatballs doused in parm cheese, this joint is not for you. Rather, this neighborhood gem features a menu inspired by delicious flavors straight from the Amalfi Coast! The food is a five plus plus, but the service is in a league of its own.

The service

Michele Di Ruocco is the friendly face behind the establishment. Most of the time he meets and greets, but don’t let it surprise you when he steps in to serve you! Whether you’re a proud regular or an out of state guest, Michele will make you feel at home. We frequent the restaurant regularly but as much as we enjoy the provisions, we equally enjoy the company! In fact, when I’m away on blogging business, I find comfort in knowing that Jonathan and GG can dine al fresco and visit with the Capannina crew.

Antipasti

I’ll put it to you this way. Every single time we are finished eating at Capannina, we wish we could rewind the evening and start all over again. This is why I suggest stretching it out and beginning with a salad! My fav is the Insalata Mista. The baby greens are fresh and crisp, the goat cheese is delectably creamy and it’s perfectly dressed in a light balsamic vinaigrette. Jonathan prefers the Mozzarella di Bufala and shares the prosciutto with GG.

Primi

Next on deck is PASTA…my favorite part of the meal. The ravioli is the best in the business. Stuffed with mozzarella and fine ground prosciutto, never have I ever consistently enjoyed a pasta dish so much. Topped with a light homemade tomato sauce and fresh “garlic chips,” you’ll wish it was socially acceptable to lick the bowl clean. My stomach is growling just thinking about it and I ate there last night!

Secondi

On to the heavier stuff…I’m not sure how they do it, but I’m here to tell you that the chicken is the juiciest most generous portion you’ll find in the city. We’ve been to Zuni. We tried Mary’s “famous” chicken…Mary who?! It seriously does not compare to this. I’m a creature of habit but Jonathan has also indulged in the tuna, salmon, and sea bass. He claims the tuna (served over risotto – I kid you not) is the best seared Ahi he’s ever eaten. No wonder it doesn’t last more than three minutes on his plate.

Dolci

Now it wouldn’t be a night out in true Kelsey Kaplan fashion without dessert. Alejandro makes a mean cappuccino but the chocolate cake and cannoli are ridiculous…ridiculously delicious. The chocolate literally melts in your mouth – I could bathe in it. The hazelnut gelato is the perfect accompaniment and reminds me of the gelato we ate straight off of the street in Italy.

While I cannot attest to all of the dishes, I’ll leave you with this: I have personally witnessed a man order and devour a half dozen oysters, another half dozen oysters, followed by the lobster and shellfish entree. This my friend is why we continually introduce new people to Capannina. They all leave the place with the same appreciation and affection for the food as we do and we get SO much pleasure out of it! Salute!

Brunch at Bouchon

Does French food suit your fancy?! If so, reserve a table early at Bouchon and prepare to be wowed. Go for brunch and order from the brunch or dinner menu. If you’re in the mood for breakfast food, get the chicken and waffles. I guarantee it’ll be the most succulent chicken you’ll ever eat. Otherwise, the steak frites will not disappoint. Don’t be shy, keep asking for more baguettes and butter…you know you want to!

Cocktails at Bardessono

Lucy Restaurant and Bar at Bardessono is where it’s at! It is here where, patrons gather for happy hour before shuffling off to their dinner plans. The wine and cocktail list is extensive, and the “Nibbles and Bites” menu will tide you over before your reservation. If you dig fried food, order the beer battered onion rings and curl up next to a fire pit to enjoy.

Dinner at Redd

Reserve at Redd for a chic night on the town. This hip space is great for date night or groups alike. After you get your drink on, indulge in the crispy chicken thigh appetizer – your tastebuds will thank you later. The steak on top of potato purée and fried shallots is a great option for a hearty appetite. For a more laid back scene, cross the street for pizza at Redd Wood.

Sweet Treats from Bouchon Bakery

Satisfy your sweet tooth with freshly baked goods from Bouchon Bakery. Chocolate almond croissants, donuts, macarons, and caramel popcorn are just a handful of the many concoctions served up here. Wake up early or leave room for an afternoon pick-me-up to avoid the line. On a nice day, enjoy your pastries in the charming courtyard.
