All Eyes on the Shoes

When I came across the “Darron Pump”, by BCBGeneration, at one of my favorite shoe stores, there was no way I was leaving without a pair! A deceivingly good knock-off of Valentino’s “Rockstud’ Pump“, this shoe is available in three bold colors: red, black, and turquoise and for a fraction of the cost of a designer pair. Aside from the eye-catching aesthetics, design, and price, these shoes are actually comfortable. After being out and about for a good six hours in these bad boys, I am happy to report no blisters or sore soles!   Just as I advise when styling any other statement piece, the same rules apply when it comes to a bold pair of shoes…don’t compete with them! In the ensemble below, I started out with a neutral colored blouse (available at Current Clothing SF but I love this one), then added a colorful infinity scarf (this one would be perfect) to compliment the kicks. I decided on a distressed skinny jean, cuffed at the ankle, because I wanted to show off the studded details along the t-strap of the shoe. A flare or bootcut jean would have covered up too much of the goodness. I completed […]

Fun for Fideaux

Speaking of scooter jackets…I picked up the cutest scooter sweater for GG during our trip to Napa Valley a couple of weeks ago. The last thing I want is a shivering Shih Tzu on the back of the Vespa! Located on Main Street, in the heart of St. Helena, consider it a sin visiting Napa Valley with your dog without stopping in for a looksie at Fideaux -the sweetest pet boutique. Your pup will be greeted and treated from the minute they prance through the door.     Offering a wonderful assortment of grooming supplies, leads, collars, clothing, beds, and seasonal merchandise, your fur baby will make him or herself right at home. Not to mention you’ll leave with plenty of fabulous finds. After stuffing a goodie bag of doggie delicacies from the “treat bar,” I caught a glimpse of the most adorable hooded sweater for my little monkey.     Crafted out of a toasty cashmere blend, this zip-up sweater is available in brown or blue. Greatly resembling those old-fashioned monkey stuffed animals, your bff is sure to receive endless compliments.       Once you’ve done enough damage, head a couple of doors down for some lunch and margaritas on the outdoor patio at La Condesa […]

The Scooter Jacket

If you ride a Vespa or simply need a jacket to throw on over your workout attire, today is your lucky day! After trying on many styles from Eddie Bauer, Uniqlo, lululemon and Columbia, I finally discovered a feminine and insulated scooter jacket by Patagonia.   Meet the Kai Lee Parka! Available in “Stone,” black, and “Dark Currant,” (photographed below) you’ll find yourself practically living in this thing. Made from machine-washable polyester and crafted in horizontal quilts, the princess seams and slim fit make this above-the-knee coat as flattering as it gets. With fleece lined pockets, no need to bring along your gloves, and when you’re not warming your hands, zip up and store your precious belongings. If you’re sitting or riding, utilize the 2-way zipper for ultimate leg comfort.           Not convinced yet? This jacket passed the wind-breaker test during a recent Vespa ride along the Pacific Coast in 40 degree temperatures. Plus, it is now on sale in the Patagonia online store. Get it while you can! Otherwise, click here to shop the crop pants in this post and here to shop the Nike’s.             Purchase pink helmets and gloves here. […]

Wishlist Wednesday: Rain Boots

Now that you own a fashionable umbrella, how about a pair of Hunter boots to match?! With all of this talk about the blizzard that just hit the North Eastern part of the country, I couldn’t help but think about these adorable waterproof rain boots.   Keep your feet dry in style with the “Dazzle Wellington Boot!” If you ordered the umbrella in chartreuse, then go with “watermelon.” These tall boots are prominently beige, with multicolored geometric accents down the back, making them easy to match the rain gear you already own. Featuring quick-dry lining and removable insoles, get the job done looking good and feeling good.       If you prefer solids, go for the “Fringe Rain Boots.” These are what I would consider, class with some sass! Reminiscent of Minnetonka moccasin boots, and finished in matte black with navy detailing, wear the two-tone fringe out, or tuck it in behind the straps. If you’re looking for a wet-weather solution, that could also pass as everyday attire, the Fringe Rain Boot is your answer.       To shop fleece boot liners and all other Hunter products click here.   If you’re reading the email version of this post, click here to read […]

Unique Super Bowl Appetizer: Halloumi Cheese

If you are looking for something different to serve for Super Bowl Sunday XLIX, I’ve got just the right appetizer for you! Slightly salty and squeaky in texture, grilled halloumi cheese (made from goat and sheep’s milk) will not disappoint. Being Mediterranean in heritage, this special cheese pairs nicely with kalamata olives, hummus, pita, falafel, etc.   Here is what you’ll need to grill a block or two: 1 package of halloumi cheese from Trader Joe’s or specialty cheese store near you. olive oil kalamata olives 1 large tomato arugula for garnishing   Step one: Cut halloumi into lengthwise strips.   Step two: Lightly coat the bottom of a teflon coated frying pan (I prefer to use a Scanpan nonstick skillet) with olive oil and heat over medium-high heat.   Step three: Place cheese gently into hot oil and allow to brown for about a minute and a half on each side.   Step four: Garnish serving dish with arugula, kalamata olives, and tomato wedges.   Step five: Top with warm grilled cheese and drizzle with the remaining olive oil in the pan. Serve and enjoy!   Hosting a party of 10 or more? Cut the sticks of cheese into […]
