Hopland Tap House

First Stop: Hopland Tap House

After many trips to wine country over the past year and a half, we finally made it further on US 101 North to explore Mendocino County. Our first stop was Hopland, California (halfway between San Francisco and the town of Mendocino) best described as “Small town USA.”     Along Center Street, the main through way, stands Hopland Tap House. What a GEM! From the brick facade, to the patio, to the shuffle board table, to the jukebox, this establishment is bursting with character!     Being a “tap house,” we assumed the selection of draught beers would be pretty awesome and I’m happy to report we were not disappointed. Pranqster, a locally brewed beer was our favorite. Not to worry, if you’re not a brew drinker, there are a handful of nonalcoholic beverages offered as well. I recommend the fresh squeezed lemonade.     Now onto the food…come hungry! It was refreshing to see such a variety of food on a bar menu, suitable for meat lovers and vegetarians alike. Since a trip to Hopland is out of our regular routine, I had to try more than one item. It was a turkey panini and pastrami wrapped hotdog kind […]

Warning: These are Addictive

Looking for another item to add to your Thanksgiving dessert buffet? Wow your guests with Honey Bars! This southern delicacy is a delectable combination of sugar, honey, cinnamon, and pecans, topped with sweet vanilla icing. Aside from the mouthwatering concoction of ingredients, this baked good is rather simple to make.   Here’s what you’ll need to churn out this dessert dish: 1 cup sugar 3/4 cup oil (preferably corn oil) 1/4 cup honey 1 tsp vanilla 1 egg 2 cups self rising flour 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1 scant teaspoon baking soda 1/2 cup chopped pecans 1 cup powdered sugar 1 tablespoon water 2 tablespoons butter (melted) 1 teaspoon vanilla    Directions: Mix sugar, oil, honey, vanilla, and egg in a bowl until smooth. Next, dump in the flour, cinnamon, baking soda and chopped pecans and stir again.     After that, bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes – it will rise and fall. While baking, mix powdered sugar, water, butter and vanilla in a small bowl and whisk together.     While warm, spread with mixture from previous step.     Finally, cut into bars or squares when still warm.     Serve and enjoy!     A special […]

Save Time and Set your Table Early

You already have so much on your plate (no pun intended), while you prepare for guests to arrive for Thanksgiving dinner…set your table a day early and you’ll thank me later! No matter how many people you are cooking for, setting the table takes time. Why devote valuable minutes to folding napkins and stacking plates, Thanksgiving morning, when you could be turkey brining or taste testing your side dishes?   Setting the table is like putting together an outfit. It doesn’t matter if you are matching a pair of pants with a blouse, or napkin rings and plate chargers, the same principles apply! I decided to keep it simple this year and add only a few seasonal trinkets and name cards, to the table. I did not want to compete with the china’s natural beauty and elegance.   The Vintage Jewel 5-piece place setting by Lenox is a beautiful contrast of  blue, platinum and 24 karat gold against classic white china. Adorn your table with a refined tablecloth or slip an understated charger beneath your plates and you’re ready to entertain. With little to no effort, the Vintage Jewel collection and  flatware will regally transform any dining room.   Rather […]
