How to Wear Mom Jeans – Even if You’re Not one

I do not have a human child but I have a Shih Tzu named GG and she thinks she is one. I am not even kidding…she stands on her hind legs and asks to ride my hip. Does that make me a mother or a #crazydoglady? I won’t be offended if you say so! No really though, mama or not, “mom jeans” are taking over the fashion scene and today is the first time I am wearing a pair on the blog. If you too are new to the trend, follow this style guide to avoid looking dowdy.     Form Fitting Top Mom jeans are not tight fitting. In fact, I have yet to find a pair that even stretches. When you have a lot of baggage going on below the waist, balance it out with something form fitting up top. I am so confident I would have looked like I was wearing pants three times my size had I paired a boxy t-shirt with these suckers. Consider a crop top or a tight fitting bodysuit. I chose the latter and it is only $12.90 – score!     Hot Kicks Hot kicks go a long way. Mom jeans […]

Valentine’s Day Attire: Sweetheart Midi Dress

I’ll be the first to admit that Valentine’s Day is the definition of a “Hallmark Holiday.” I do not mean to brag, but it is sort of like V-Day 365 days a year in the Kaplan household! But it doesn’t really matter what I think because everyone else is gearing up for the big day. You have probably already noticed all of the greeting cards, candies, and balloons filling the shelves at every big box retailer.     So how should one dress for the day of love? It all depends on how you will be spending the “holiday,” of course! For dinner and a movie, consider jeans a bodysuit. Work in a pop of pink with a sassy lipstick or a colorful shoe. Just make sure you have enough room in your ensemble for a bag of popcorn! For a romantic night on the town, spice things up in a sweetheart midi dress. I am always looking for an excuse to rock a killer outfit (precisely the reason I am overdressed wherever I go)! To me, Valentine’s Day is just a fun opportunity to wear all the pink and red in my closet.     Gone are the days […]

You Need these Pearl Hem Pants

It is no secret that I am a pants girl. I prefer pants to skirts because they suit my active lifestyle. Simply put, I cannot sit still. I am often out and about with my sidekick GG and dog walking is way easier in a pair of pants! If we share that style preference, then today is your lucky day. Check out these pearl hem pants (insert heart eyes emoji).     Practically PJs These pants are literally the stretchiest pants I’ve ever put on my leg! Well, aside from my fav barre pants, of course! And better than that, the fabric is thick so they suck you in and smooth you out. High waisted? Yep! It is all I wear these days. Anyway, I like to think of these beauts as daytime Spanx, or PJs that you can wear in public. Who can resist that level of comfort?       Alternative to Jeans Correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t you get sick of wearing the same old jeans day after day? Well, these pearl hem pants are a great alternative to your go-to black denim! Think about it, this look would have the same affect with black […]

Stripe Sweater Dress

Stripes get a bad rep. They are often regarded as “enlarging” or “hard to wear,” but I beg to differ. I actually like how they make my athletic body shape resemble a hourglass figure. When it hits in the right spot, a stripe pattern can actually synch your waist. I’ll take it! Today I present you with this stripe sweater dress. I dare you buy it!     This stripe sweater dress is only $48. If you can avoid it, do not spend more than $100 on a new trend in case you only wear it once. I was weary of buying this item online because the model has a good 10 inches on me, and it is a maxi length garment. Luckily, the length is just right with a high heel bootie! The fit is tight, but the material is forgiving. What I mean is that it provides moderate coverage – it’s not too thin. But for those of you who want even more coverage, a longline vest is the way to go. Do you dare to be bold?!     Shop the Post: Stripe Sweater Dress | Vest | Booties | Earrings c/o

5 Reasons I Love The Bar Method

Confession: I am addicted to The Bar Method. After many years of competitive team sports, my knees began to suffer. It was time to find a low-impact exercise regime that satisfied me just as much as the playing field. On a whim five years ago, while residing in Baton Rouge, LA, I took my first Bar Method class. Never having stepped foot into a dance studio before, my initial thought was, “am I qualified for this,” followed by, “will this be challenging enough?” Needless to say, I was hooked after the first class, and boy was I WRONG that the workout would emulate a ballet lesson! Although I could go on forever, below are five reasons I love TBM.     They just “Get It” Although I just turned 30, but my joints feel older. Home girl CANNOT exercise on hardwood floors. Just NO. Some barre classes cover the floor with a pretty new carpet, minus one thing: the padding. Ladies and gents, the carpet at the Bar Method is “hella” padded. And for this, I’ll be forever grateful. For those of you with tender wrists, or delicate knees, I can assure you that you’ll be comfortable throughout pushups and […]
