I never knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. You know in grammar school when you go around the room and say, “I want to be a: teacher, nurse, mechanic, astronaut (how many times did you hear that one?!) when I grow up,” I never had an answer. When it came time for college I knew I liked customer service, business, and fashion but none of the most common majors combined the three. It wasn’t until my sophomore year that I realized I could earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Textile and Apparel Merchandising – the business side of the fashion industry! With ties to the Northeast, I finally had a plan. I would finish college at LSU and move back to the Tristate Area to work in NYC. But even after earning my degree, I wasn’t sold on the idea. I was managing a clothing boutique and LOVED styling outfits for my regular clients. I knew if I aspired to become a retail buyer in NYC, I would not be working directly with consumers.
