Wish List Wednesday: Navy is the New Black

One of the MANY benefits of having a friend who is a clothing store owner is that you get the inside scoop on what is happening in the fashion industry. Several months ago Nancy, of Current Clothing, let me in on a little secret. She said, “navy is the new black!” After back-to-back buying trips in New York and Los Angeles, Nancy was eager to tell me that navy blue velvet was a very prevalent fabric at market. Fast forward to November, and it is evvvverywhere! Was she right, or was she RIGHT?!     Similar to a little black dress, one will never be overdressed or underdressed in a little blue dress. Cozy and Chic in a Cold Shoulder Sweater

If you are looking for some light reading in between the Election Day press, you have come to the right place! Maybe you follow me on Instagram, and you already caught a glimpse of today’s outfit…it is that time of year to wrap up in all things cozy and chic, like this cold shoulder sweater.     When you live in a moderate climate, it is all about finding the seasonal balance. That is where the cold shoulder design comes into play! This plush sweater is the best of both worlds – cozy and cool. Where has this style been my whole life?! If you are hot natured like me, you just hit the sweater jackpot.     I dressed this sweater with light blue denim and camel accents. Ivory and tan is one of my go-to autumn color palettes. It is simple yet mod. These lace-up booties were only $35 and they’ve exceeded my expectations. The two inch block heel provides all day comfort. OTK Boots and a Fur Vest

Now that you know how to dress a mini skirt with over the knee boots, it is time that we discuss how you can elevate your dress game with a pair of OTK boots!     In my world, an outfit is incomplete without a statement piece. You’ll never catch me out and about in a solid garment without a necklace, scarf, or a vest. Maybe those are not realistic expectations for everyone to live up to but I am a fashion blogger by trade! The good news is OTK boots have the potential to fill that void. Here me out.     You can never go wrong with a classic shift dress. It is a very forgiving cut as it is neither too fitted nor too loose. I scored this faux suede number from Black Swan Clothing. The neutral hue is perfect for the fall and the keyhole detail adds a nice touch – it is certainly a basic with a twist! I styled this dress with a multicolored fur vest for some added fun, then polished off the look with complimentary over the knee boots. Wish List Wednesday: Mixed Prints

Mixing prints used to be considered a fashion faux pas. I can remember offering my mom unsolicited advice that she was wearing “too many prints.” It turns out that she was ahead of the game (surprise, surprise!), because ensembles featuring mixed prints are all the rage. Below is an example currently on my holiday season outfit wish list.     Mixing prints is not an exact science. I suggest starting with one piece then building off of there. I was attracted to this bodysuit from the moment I laid eyes on it. I love demonstrating how sheer doesn’t have to be racy and the floral design definitely adds a ladylike touch. With the holiday season in mind, textured or colored bottoms are a must. I chose the latter!     It is very important to break up the contrasting prints that you are wearing. You do not want to wear a chevron top and a plaid bottom. Instead, separate the patterns with a solid item in between. The Over the Knee Boot Craze

While some fads come and go, others become staples – earning that special place in your wardrobe year after year. This my friends is what has become of the over the knee boot! If you’ve been eyeing a pair for a while now, I am here to tell you it’s a smart investment to make. This style shoe is here to stay and it is hotter than ever.     Leg Coverage One of the reasons I gravitate towards OTK boots is because they are a good compromise between too much leg and pantyhose. Maybe you want to rock a mini dress (as seen here) but you do not want to introduce another texture, stockings for example, into the mix. An over the knee boot will provide you with that moderate coverage. The same goes for short shorts and mini skirts as demonstrated in the featured look.     Chic Appeal It is no secret that wearing a pair of OTK boots will up your chic appeal about 100%!
