Behind the Blog (BTB)

As with every blog shoot, there is a story “behind the blog.” Last Friday night I wore this outfit to Bix. If you haven’t been there yet, it is an old timey San Francisco institution that sits in the heart of Jackson Square. Think wood paneled bar and live piano player…plus it’s home to the city’s best martinis. The glasses are chilled on ice, and the blue cheese olives are divine. Well, I’m never not jumping at the opportunity for an outfit pic, and last Friday was no exception! After framing the shot, testing the light, and “staging” my little corner of the bar, an innocent bystander passes by with a DSLR camera. I didn’t even have to ask…he started shooting and captured the two photos below. Talk about serendipity…

Comfort Level

One of the biggest pain points (literally and figuratively) when it comes to high heel wearing is that they are rarely comfortable. The higher the heel, the higher the arch leaving the ball of your foot to bear the weight. Platform shoes eliminate the pain point. The sole and the heel of the shoe are level on the ground. Score!

Instant Boost

We all wear high heels for the same reason: to look taller. Buy a pair of platforms and you will comfortably accomplish just that. Petite girls rejoice! Platforms are typically about five inches tall. No matter how high-waisted your pants are, you will never be able to elongate the appearance of your legs as much as you can with a pair of these kicks.

Not Just Any Night

Jonathan and I joke that it is date year at the Kaplan household. We are always together. But what makes DATE NIGHT different from any other night is that we sit inside and experience the ambiance and decor (sorry GG!). It sounds ridiculous but we dine on so many dog-friendly patios we hardly ever enter the establishment. Putting fourth the extra effort and dressing up for date night makes it stand out from an ordinary evening.

This blue suit fits like a dream and it is only $48. Shocking – I know! I love when suits are sold as sets because it is like getting three outfits for the price of one. Today I am wearing the top and bottoms together, but I am already planning to wear them as separates. The blazer features notched lapels and a button front closure, giving you endless style options. Go shirtless under this thing, if you please. The matching pants feature a mid-rise waist, but I must admit I prefer a high-rise waist. Considering the price point, it’s totally worth the inconvenience. The cropped length is great, but it hit me at the ankle. I opted to have them hemmed just so you could get a better view of my shoes.

The shoes on the other hand…let’s just say I’ve been watching stalking ’em on the internet for the past several weeks. As a lover of color, it doesn’t get any better than a pair of rainbow pumps with red soles! If you are a loyal KKF reader, then you already know my thoughts about the So Kate Christian Louboutin pump. This is my first time wearing the “Pigalle,” but my initial assessment is that they are easier to walk in. The thicker stiletto heel and the slightly lower heel height make a big difference. I cannot walk out out of the house in any old t-shirt and jeans. Everyone knows how to physically put on a top and pull up a pair of pants. But what makes me different and defines who I am as a fashionista is that I style ALL of the ensembles that I wear. I carefully curate every outfit so that the garments and the matching accessories make a statement. I am definitely not bragging, rather I am just being honest. It is my job to inspire people like you through the clothes that I wear! So if I share a look with you that does consist of a top and jeans, I can guarantee that it’ll be a good one!
