There are some trends I can do without. Dad sneakers…I’m not even gonna go there because I’ll probably offend someone. Sequins, on the other hand, I cannot live without! Belt bags, fanny packs, whatever you want to call them, are the best things since sliced bread. Get ready to take on the world hands-free with one of these little things. Gone are the days of black vinyl fanny packs. 2018 designs feature sequins, velvet, and luxurious waistbands. I take back all of the ugly things I said at Disney World way back when. #Guilty

Overalls

You heard right! Overalls are making a comeback and they are better than ever. From embroidery, colored denim, to lavish materials, these onesies make a statement without even trying. I think we can all appreciate an outfit that requires little to no effort once in a while. Now the question is, are you ready to look 30 going on 13?!

Flare Jeans

I have touched on this before, so I’ll keep it brief today. Clean cut skinny jeans are slowly but surely becoming obsolete. Flare legs, crop pants, and asymmetrical hems are all the rage. Pair ’em with a crop top and turn back time a couple of decades.

“Sheer garments are “racy.” I understand why one would draw this conclusion…afterall, “sheer” is a synonym for see-through! BUT, when styled tastefully, sheer garments can be quite elegant. It is all about creating a balance. I love this top because it is a mature take on a classic print. It can be dressed two ways. Obviously I tied it down the front for these photos, but it can also criss cross and tie in the back. I honestly did not even consider the latter until I saw it here. For more coverage, pair it with a solid black bralette and tie it down the back.

I LOVE high waist pants. They sculpt your bod into an hourglass figure, but better than that, they give you outfit options! Before high waist garments were back in style, you could not pay me to wear a crop top. But now, send ’em my way! These pants are just as comfortable as they are attractive. They are stretchy and resilient. No need to worry about them losing their shape after the workday. But what totally sold me on ’em was the ankle slit. Why bother wearing a pair of pretty shoes if no one can see them?! Because let’s be honest, the better they look the worse they feel. Beauty is pain #AmIRight?!

Form Fitting Top

Mom jeans are not tight fitting. In fact, I have yet to find a pair that even stretches. When you have a lot of baggage going on below the waist, balance it out with something form fitting up top. I am so confident I would have looked like I was wearing pants three times my size had I paired a boxy t-shirt with these suckers. Consider a crop top or a tight fitting bodysuit. I chose the latter and it is only $12.90 – score!

Hot Kicks

Hot kicks go a long way. Mom jeans with sneakers on a petite frame is not a winning combination. Pair ’em with a stiletto heel and now we’re talkin’! When you are styling a garment that can potentially come off as “frumpy,” a sexy shoe is a reliable remedy. I jumped at the opportunity to wear my Christian Louboutin sequin pumps (as seen here). I think they did the trick!

Fab Belt

Ladies and gentleman, belts are back in style and I mean belts of ALL kinds. Remember those “fanny packs” we used to poke fun at. Yeah, those are now referred to as “belt bags” and homegirl is rockin’ one loud and proud (insert laughing emoji)! I must admit, it is so nice toting your belongings hands-free. But if a fanny pack is too much for you, synch your waist with a traditional belt instead. See ya on the street, hot mama!

And that was just the first look…thankfully I got my “ish” together for the second shoot. Anyway, today I am so excited to share this faux pearl dress! I know I am not the only one with holiday plans now through the New Year. For those of you “partied out” I can relate, but this spicy number will do all of the talking for you!

Now how does one style a faux pearl dress with tassels? Very minimally! Less is never more in the Kelsey Kaplan Fashion handbook, but this dress is the exception. Hah! That’ll probably be the last time you hear me say that! Anyway, I kept things simple and styled this stunner with white and nude accents. I had big plans to show you how it would look with an ivory fur coat, but I forgot that as well. #SendHelp

Now back to business. I do not wear plaid often. It is a little too preppy for my taste. So when I do, it has to be “plaid with a twist!” Today for example, I am showcasing a plaid crop top. This flirty little thing is far from your typical plaid shirt. I love the flounce sleeves and front ruffle details. I funked up the classic print with a pair of bell bottom jeans, but black high rise denim would look equally as fabulous. How do you plaid?!

2017 marks my third year as a proud regular at Current Clothing. To me, stepping foot into that store is like approaching the Golden Gate Bride. The sight NEVER gets old. Classic Colors

This rule applies to everyday fashionista life. When in doubt, wear black and white. This classic combo will match with everything, including pink booties. It will also tone down your look if you’re new to the colorful shoe trend. At New York Fashion Week, obviously I would wear these booties with a matching pink suit. For a regular day in San Francisco, however, this black and white ensemble will still have people lookin’.

Confidence

Kill it with confidence! It sounds cliche, but it is the truth. Wear your new pink booties like you were made to wear ’em. There is nothing more attractive than a smiling lady who wears her head high. Besides, happy girls are the prettiest and it’s almost impossible to walk down the street in happy feet without a smile on your face. Prepare for pink bootie overload – I can assure you this is not the first or last time you’ll be seeing them.
