Shortest horror story ever: SOLD OUT. That pretty much sums up my week. All of the tops on the blog this week sold out faster than I could write about ’em. This rainbow graphic sweater is one of three (inset crying emoji). It is frustrating but also reassuring. I guess I have a talent for knowing what people want!

But there is no use crying over spilled milk. Luckily, rainbows are trending and there are a handful of other rainbow graphic sweaters on the market. Obviously I am linking to them all below! There is something so happy and youthful about ’em. You cannot help but smile when wearing one.

All I have to say is thank the clothing g-d for re-inventing flounce hem jeans. They are a petite girl’s pair of dream jeans. For a few years there, there was no middle ground. It was skinny or flare. And in all honesty, I do not think skinny jeans are the most flattering style for short legged folks. They have the ability to cut off our legs at an unflattering length. It used to be that your top or shoes would do the talking, but not when you are wearing bottoms like this!

Tutu Skirt for the Edgy Chic

I’ve always been the sporty chic – definitely NOT the graceful gal. In fact, I remember my gymnastics coach in the early 90’s convincing my mom to enroll me in ballet classes in an effort to improve “my lines.” Simply put, I was terrible. I was good at suiting up in the garb but that was about it (insert laughing emoji)! Well, since my days on the dance floor are few and far between, I have to get creative when it comes to dressing like a dancer. This is as close as I’ll get to being a ballerina and wearing a tutu!

So how is a sporty chic supposed to dress? I wish there was a straight forward answer. Although I am the epitome of a girly girl, I LOVE an edgy outfit. Last week my friend (and store owner) said to me, “you’re edgy but you wear pearls!” She hit the nail on the head. I love leather and lace but appreciate the feminine things in life too. Today’s look is the perfect hybrid of the two.

With waist lines on the rise, crop tops are becoming wardrobe staples. When I came across this faux leather version I knew I’d get a ton of use out of it. It’s the perfect amount of edge to balance out my ultra feminine side. When I do not wear it with skirts, I will wear it with pants. The fit is true to size. I am wearing a size small and the back is adjustable with bra-like hook and closures. Now about the tutu skirt…the inspiration behind this outfit post! This polka dot skirt is what edgy girl’s dream of. The asymmetrical hem adds an appropriate amount of funk to an otherwise classic piece. I love black on black but it’s also available in pink if that doesn’t suit your fancy.

How to Style White Sandals

Call me old fashioned, but ever since I was a little girl I have associated white shoes with nurses! Remember when they used to wear white head to toe?! Not that there is anything wrong with that career choice, but there is something about white kicks that seems so sterile. Not to mention they have the ability to make your feet look like boats! Fast forward a couple of decades and all of a sudden they’re “cool” and I own not one but two pairs! Here’s how to wear white sandals and look stylish while doing it.

To avoid the clown shoe appearance, always choose a strappy sandal. This is even more important if you’re wearing white shoes with white pants. Showing some skin will break up all of the white and add dimension. Click here to see how I style white tassel hem jeans with this pair of sandals.

If strappy shoes are out of the question, consider styling your white sandals with cropped pants or shorts. Bearing your ankles will also counter the enlarging abilities. As you can see in today’s look, I paired white sandals with ankle length jeans. That is all it takes.

Finally, color is key! Monochromatic looks are beautiful but unless you are bearing a lot of skin, I recommend adding color into the mix. Which look do you prefer? White jeans with a vibrant top, or blue jeans with a multicolored top? I cannot decide but I am certain that you will not find a cuter gingham shirt for $27!

Sheer Elegance: A Night at the “Jewseum”

Jonathan and I had the pleasure of attending the opening of the Cary Leibowitz exhibit Wednesday night at the Contemporary Jewish Museum. The “ Jewseum ” (I am not being derogatory) sure knows how to throw a party. After indulging in hot dogs and brews, we made our way into the auditorium for a drag show (I kid you not!) followed by more knosh. I had an epiphany. It is so much fun eating hot dogs when someone else dresses them for you! We thoroughly enjoyed our time in the exhibit, admiring the artist’s use of color and quirky humor. If you watch my Instagram stories, then you were lucky enough to catch a glimpse inside of the gallery. But if you didn’t, no worries. The exhibit is open until June 25th – check it out!

Do these Pants Make me Look Jewish?

The second I accept an iCal invite, my mind races with outfit ideas. The last time I wore palazzo pants I dressed them for a Great Gatsby themed party. Today I’m demonstrating how to style them with a sheer black top appropriate for a night at the Jewseum. There is a big difference between sheer elegance and sheer trash. When shopping for a see through garment, consider modest styles. Under no circumstance would a traditional long sleeve turtleneck be considered racy! Less is more when working with sheer garments. This is especially true when it comes to the undergarments you pair with them. This very plain brassiere from Gap Body is my go-to for all things sheer. I polished off the look with pearl embellished booties and decade old statement earrings from Rodeo Boutique.

YSL Dress for a Special Occasion

Three years ago, my hubby and I were in LA for a business trip. It was my first time to Southern California so we hit all of the major hotspots. Rodeo Drive was one of them! We ended up in Saint Laurent after they strategically invited GG, our Shih Tzu, inside. We couldn’t leave the store without buying something, so my hubby gifted me with this YSL dress! This was not the first or the last time GG instigated an unplanned purchase…

There is something to be said about designer ready to wear clothing. Not only are the quality and fit exceptional, but the service should be as well. The salesperson took one look at me and pulled this dress off of the rack. How did he know that it was just my taste and that it would fit me like a glove?! When I tried it on I was immediately impressed with how well the princess seams shaped my figure and how gracefully the bell sleeves hung. But most of all, the COLOR. The rich teal silk drapes like flowing water. Hopefully these photos do it justice!

Anyway, last Sunday was our five year wedding anniversary, and I wore this YSL dress to commemorate the occasion. Although I bought it in 2013, it never gets old getting dolled up in this beauty – I wear it differently each time. I took a page out of my cousin’s playbook, and accessorized with a fashion turban. I felt so chic! I added a touch of gold with a vintage leaf brooch and Chanel earrings. Needless to say, I fit in perfectly at the rooftop bistro where we dined. Always remember, when in LA, the more drama the better!

If you’re in the downtown LA area, I highly recommend Perch LA for a romantic meal and The Varnish for an after dinner cocktail. P.S. order the truffle fries…
