A Cozy Corner

First things first: designate a corner of the room for the baby’s sleep space. And while you’re at it, make it on mom’s side of the bed. No disrespect to dad, but mom is baby’s world those first few days earth-side. Once you pick a spot, slap a “label” on it with some wall decor. Maybe you have a beautiful name sign to hang, or perhaps wall paper or a wall decal. Regardless, stick with the style or theme you’ve already established in your master bedroom. It is important to remember that we are designing a temporary space. Whatever additions you make should look good with or without baby gear! I chose the latter, and adorned the baby’s corner with a beautiful metallic gold tree decal. As far as sleeping…(or lack there of LOL) I am so happy with my decision to go with a “mini crib.” Not only does it fill the space perfectly, but it is on wheels and converts into a full size crib. It can therefore double as a bedside bassinet, and a corner sleep solution. I have so many good things to say about this piece of furniture but, I’ll save my comments for a comprehensive product review.

Changing Station

If this post is relevant to you, then you have a lot of dirty diapers in your future. No nursery nook is complete without a changing station. Many stylish changing tables exist, but if you need to save as much space as possible, you can easily transform your chest of drawers into a diaper changing station! I accomplished this by topping my dresser with a changing peanut, and these luxe diaper caddies. Don’t forget, your reclaimed changing station can also function as an armoire. I moved my belongings out of the dresser and into the platform storage bed so that I could easily access the baby’s clothes instead. Don’t forget a diaper pail for your changing station – a nursery nook essential to keep your room fresh! This is the one I recommend.

Sitting Area

Ok, we have the crib covered and a changing area, now let’s talk about seating arrangements. If you have the space, I highly recommend adding a plush glider or rocker to your nursery nook. The newborn stage is nothing short of exhausting. The days are long and the nights are even longer. Having a comfortable spot to cat nap is imperative. But if you don’t have the floor space (we didn’t), consider a supportive reading pillow for your bed. I transformed the window sill into a plush lounging area, and I’ve truly enjoyed story time here. Fresh Air

Never underestimate the power of FRESH AIR! Spending countless hours alone at home can become quite isolating. Find a reason to go for a walk around the block. I’ll be the first to admit on a scale of 1-10 (1 being not paranoid and 10 being very paranoid) I am an 11 on the covid-19 scale! Regardless, I am a pet owner, and it is my responsibility to take my dog outside 3-4 times per day. My mood is noticeably elevated when I return from my walks with GG.

Home Project

When you spend as much time at home as we cumulatively have, you start to notice “stuff.” Maybe it’s a messy closet, or artwork you’ve been meaning to hang. Whatever it is, set a goal for yourself to complete one home project every month. It feels good checking items off of your to-do list and it’s a win win if it makes your home cozier. I am so happy with how our patio revamp turned out!

Try a New Recipe

Events and meetings are all taking place virtually, and we finally have the time to cook or bake. These activities are suitable for people of all ages and backgrounds. Beginner or expert chef, there is always something to learn, and always a new food to try in the kitchen. Click here for a few of my favorite weeknight recipes.

Phone a Friend

Make the effort to call or FaceTime your person. There is a difference between reading a text conversation and actually being able to see or hear your bff’s voice. Seriously. Use the time you have at home to catch up with the people who mean the most to you. It is good for the soul.

About the Patio Revamp

I mentioned home projects because this is something I have found to be so satisfying. When I returned to SF after being away I was on an organizing kick! Once I decluttered ever single drawer and cabinet in the place, I moved on to redecorating the living area and so forth. But revamping the patio has been my favorite home improvement. With simple additions like an area rug (under $100), string lights (under $50), a lantern (under $60), and fresh flowers suddenly this small 6′ x 6′ space is more inviting. Jonathan and I eat dinner on the patio most nights and GG sunbathes during daylight. What project is on your to-do list?!

When it comes to my home, I like everything neat and tidy (somehow my closet does not count). Rather than storing decanters of adult beverages on the kitchen counter, organize them on a bar cart. Featuring three mirrored shelves, this pretty little thing can easily “cart” around bottles, mixers, and cocktail napkins to name a few. When you’re hosting an underage crew, transform it into a cookie buffet, hot chocolate station, etc., the options are endless.

Toss the plastic wine and champagne flutes, and serve your concoction in gold faceted stemless glasses. Now these I would store on the kitchen counter because they’re so bleeping pretty!
