Hi, my name is Kelsey and I am a petite fashion blogger. I am five feet tall and have been since junior high. Apparently I am good at disguising my lack of height because followers often remark that I appear taller in photos! Nude pumps, pointy toe boots, and high waisted garments definitely help, but flare jeans and platform shoes make exaggerating your height easier than ever!

I cannot walk out out of the house in any old t-shirt and jeans. Everyone knows how to physically put on a top and pull up a pair of pants. But what makes me different and defines who I am as a fashionista is that I style ALL of the ensembles that I wear. I carefully curate every outfit so that the garments and the matching accessories make a statement. I am definitely not bragging, rather I am just being honest. It is my job to inspire people like you through the clothes that I wear! So if I share a look with you that does consist of a top and jeans, I can guarantee that it’ll be a good one!

Hopefully you agree that this velvet bodysuit and flare jeans combo is not your average top and jeans outfit! Better yet, it will make you appear a foot taller with hardly any effort. Petite women rejoice! It is only human nature to want what you cannot have. Diversify your Closet with the Right Autumn Attire

What is the one item that your closet is lacking? Are you overflowing with LBDs but short on the skirt supply? To me, a well-versed wardrobe is just as important as a well-balanced diet. You want to be ready for whatever life throws at you. Slowly but surely I have been adding to my collection of tops. In fact, every time I visit my favorite San Francisco boutique, I beg the girls to make me leave with a basic shirt. So far so good. As we all get ready to pack away our warm weather garb in preparation for autumn attire, here are a few tips to keep your closet diverse.

Tops for Every Occasion

I fell into the ruffle rut. For a while there, every single top I purchased was adorned with ruffles. Ruffles are great but they do not match with everything. Categorize your tops into three categories: statement, basic with a twist, and casual. When you start stacking one category, shift your efforts to another. In the example above, too many of the tops I was buying fell under “statement.” I am currently building my “casual” collection. Catch my drift?!

Jackets and Toppers

I do not just wear clothes, I style them. I cannot leave the house in just a top and a bottom. Jackets and toppers make this fixation hella easier! It is already the 9th of October – stock up on these key items: cozy knit sweaters, longline vests, and lightweight jackets. This faux leather and fur bomber will add just enough flair to your autumn attire without breaking the bank.

Shoes Galore

One can never own enough shoes…as long as they are different styles. I used to be a one trick pony in the shoe department. It was high heels or nothin’. I recently got on the loafer bandwagon, however, and it has changed my outlook on flats. Branch out this season and incorporate bold booties (think white!), and embellished flats into your autumn attire.

Age Gracefully in White Jeans

As I approach my third decade in life, I find myself avoiding white jeans more frequently. You can see EVERYTHING through them. The dimples (yep I said it) and all the other stuff you prefer NOT to highlight. But just because our bodies change with age doesn’t mean we have to alter our style. Today is my attempt to teach you how to wear white jeans with confidence! Hear me out.

The Cut

If you shy away from white jeans for the reasons above, closely consider the cut. For example, I avoid white skinny jeans like the plague. Instead, I gravitate towards: flare, bootcut, or straight leg jeans. The taper at the knee takes tension off of the thighs, leaving you with a smooth upper half. This tassel hem pair is the perfect hybrid of skinny and straight.

Length of Top

If you’re squeamish at the thought of white pants, the length of your top makes all the difference. Make sure it is long enough to cover your lady parts. I stick with tunics or tops with asymmetrical tail hems. The added back coverage makes me feel more comfortable in my skin (literally and figuratively)! Wear it Like You Own it

Finally, take this opportunity to pledge that you’ll never say, “I can’t pull that off” ever again! It literally makes me sad when I get comments from people saying, “I love your outfit but I could never pull that off.” You can pull off anything as long as you do it with confidence! Remember that the next time your shopping for white jeans!

Nine to Five Chic in a Suede Pencil Skirt

If you’re confined to the “cube life” you might as well look damn good while you’re in there. It’s easy to get into the black on black “rut” during the work week. But that doesn’t mean it has to be boring (as seen here). Stock up on basics with a twist, like this black pencil skirt, and you’ll thank me later. Here is how to look nine to five chic, in a killer black ensemble.

Textures

Mixing texture goes a long way. If you’re sold on monochromatic looks this is one of the easiest ways to shake up your style. In the featured look I paired a faux suede pencil skirt with a ribbed fitted top. The contrasting fabrics stimulate the eye more than matching fabrics.

Angles

It’s all about the angle. Whether you’re taking photos and following the “rule of thirds,” or you’re piecing together a good looking outfit, the importance of angles prevails! Think about it, a diagonal line is a lot more interesting than a straight line. I first dressed this skirt with a turtleneck. After looking in the mirror I decided it did nothing for the asymmetrical hemline. Just like that, a plunging neckline nicely compliments the rim of the skirt. The same applies with regards to the cutout high heels.

Burgundy Bodysuit and Culottes: Monochrome Holiday Attire

Now that you have a chill clothes on hand, let’s keep planning festive looks! Today I am going to teach you how to piece together a holiday outfit featuring a burgundy bodysuit. These trendy items do not have to come off as “slutty.” Look classy and sexy with these easy-to-follow guidelines.

The Cut

Choose a bodysuit wisely. Carefully consider your assets and buy one that will flatter your unique body type. Maybe you have toned arms. Show them off with a sleeveless or halter neckline. Maybe you are proud of your back. Look for a backless or sheer back bodysuit. The more confident you are on the inside, the more fabulous you’ll look on the outside.

The Color

If you’re still warming up to the bodysuit trend, consider a black or monochrome ensemble. Less is definitely more when you’re wearing a potentially racy garment. In the featured look I dressed in burgundy top to bottom. The solid jewel tones created a polished and elegant feel. Don’t fixate on the colors matching perfectly. As long as they are in the same family, they’ll work together.

The Bottom

When you have a lot going on on the upper half of your body, it’s best to keep thinks simple down below. Choosing a midi length garment is an easy way to remain modest. Consider a midi skirt, or cropped pants. I chose the latter and dressed this burgundy bodysuit with matching culottes (only $12!). If you are under 5′ 2″, I recommend wearing nude heels with anything midi length to elongate the appearance of your legs.

Chic Sweatshirt or Poncho?

Do you own a poncho?! If your answer is no, click here to purchase your first one…I can promise you it will not be your last! Synonymous with chic sweatshirt, a poncho is as comfortable as your favorite hoodie, yet stylish enough to wear as a fabulous overcoat. Best of all, a poncho will pair nicely with just about everything you already own.

Dress up your jeans and flats outfit, or top a bodycon midi dress for added coverage. The options are endless. When I first received these two items from SheIn, I didn’t consider wearing them together. Little did I know, this black turtleneck poncho was the perfect match for a patchwork skirt!

It is not a secret – I have a “thing” for over the knee boots! Over the last several weeks I have styled them like this, this, and this. I am always looking for an excuse to wear them. When I came across this incredible skirt, I jumped on the opportunity to wear my OTK boots AGAIN. The patchwork design is an eclectic take on the traditional faux leather mini skirt. I was attracted to the mustard and brown panels, but it’s also available in a green and mauve pattern. Truthfully, this little number would look haute with any black top, the poncho, or should I say, chic sweatshirt, added a cozy twist!

Sleeveless Trench

Now that I let you in on my hair “secret,” it is time to spill about the outfit. Sleeveless outerwear is a hot commodity. It plays a similar role as your favorite fur vest. If you don’t already own a sleeveless trench, here is why you ought to add one to your collection sooner than later.

Similar to a vest or a scarf, one of the easiest ways to enhance a simple ensemble is to layer with a sleeveless trench coat. Maybe you’re wearing a solid cotton dress and it needs a little oomph. Or a body con mini and you need some coverage. I used a sleeveless trench to add some edge to a lace up olive dress. I think it did just the trick!

The lace up trend continues to boom. You have probably noticed lace up tops, bodysuits, etc., stocking the shelves at your favorite retailers. I’m a fan of this racy fad but sometimes it isn’t the most practical. It can become quite a challenge to find the right undergarments. I was pleasantly surprised that this little number was easy to wear and very low maintenance in that department. I topped it with a black sleeveless trench to go along with the black oxford shoes. Naturally, I accessorized with a choker necklace and tassel earrings. I guess you can call me predicable!

Ruffle Sleeve Top: Basic with a Twist

During the initial outfit planning stage for this post, something occurred to me. I often refer to “basics with a twist,” but I have never dedicated a write up about them. Today’s the day I am discussing why not so basic “basics” should make up at least one third of your wardrobe. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a lover of dresses, jumpers, and skirts. They are so fun to wear and quite stylish, but they are not always the most practical garments. Now let’s begin with this ruffle sleeve top!

If you are reading this blog, chances are high that you are seeking fashspiraton or helpful style tips. Do yourself a favor and balance out your closet with some basics with a twist. This will require you to do some thinking outside of the box. The next time you’re out shopping, consider a classic top with dramatic sleeves. A cable-knit sweater with a unique hem. Colored denim versus traditional blue. Once you have a solid foundation, you’ll begin to notice that a simple outfit does not have to be a plain outfit.

I have made it a point to buy at least one shirt whenever I visit my favorite San Francisco boutique. Luckily for me every shirt in Current Clothing is a basic with a twist! When I laid eyes on this cold-shoulder ruffle sleeve top, I knew I would get a lot of use out of it. A striking fall hue with ruffle sleeves…need I say more?! I dressed this top with green denim, although black, khaki, or blue would work. To crank the chic game up, I polished off the ensemble with a floppy hat and a matching green purse. Now do you see why these not so basic basics are an important addition to your wardrobe?
