Drop Waist Dress – Victoria Beckham for Target

If you follow me on Instagram, then you already caught a glimpse of this drop waist dress and the story behind it. I am particularly proud of this look because I took the photos using a tripod and remote! Never in a million years did I think I’d be capable of embracing the awkward and posing for a “ghost photographer.” But you know what they say, “desperate times call for desperate measures.” In an effort to “nurture my relationship,” this is my attempt to give Jonathan a break. I cannot guarantee GG will pose like a statue every time, but I can guarantee that I’ll publish content more frequently.

Target nails it again! But this time with the guidance of fashion designer Victoria Beckham. Every few years, they collaborate with a designer and curate an exclusive collection of affordably priced items. After a frustrating experience during the Lilly launch in 2015, I decided to buy in-store only. I’m happy to report that I still managed to snag my favorite item from the collection, a drop waist scallop hem dress! As it turns out, some things really are worth waiting for.

After the launch date I read a lot of mixed reviews about the quality of the apparel. Apparently you cannot satisfy everyone because I have no complaints after wearing this dress. The only con is that is it hard to button the backside yourself. But that’s what friends are for! The material is thick enough to resist wrinkles and the scallop details are darling. Drop waist garments can be a difficult fit because they are often in the form of a shift dress. I am wearing a XS and it is neither too tight nor too loose. Unfortunately this item is no longer available online but click here to check the inventory at a Target near you. I already cannot wait to rock this dress with booties during the fall. Not bad for a $20 clearance item if I say so myself. Buy or cry!

Not Your Average Army Green Skirt

“Anything goes” in the 2017 fashion scene and I’m lovin’ it. It used to be that pastels were the primary colors available for spring, but that is no longer the case. From neons, muted hues, pastels, and metallics, they are all hot for the spring and available in abundant quantities. Today we feature an army green skirt!

I love olive green because it is season-proof. Hence the reason I am so excited to share this army green midi skirt. This flirty item will spice up your wardrobe whenever you decide to wear it. Featuring a high waist and cut-out hem detail, you will not slip under the radar in this little number. Army green and black are a match made in heaven. The dynamic duo is polished and chic. Inspired by traditional military styles, I took advantage of the opportunity to mix black leather into the ensemble. Leave it to Zara to carry a “leather effect” top with frilly details.

No matter what the occasion is, I always incorporate my own unique flair. Thanks to these lace-up lucite sandals, this is easy to accomplish. Now that I have styled them three different ways (last seen here and here), are they growing on you yet?! Regardless, I polished off the look with a classic black purse and camo colored earrings. Pleated Midi Skirt and Lucite Shoes

Now that you know how to style lucite shoes with a classic skirt, today we feature a pleated midi skirt. This edgy look is right up my alley. I hope it is easy for you to replicate with items on your spring wish list.

I can remember the days when I was afraid of the midi length. At only five feet tall, the last thing I want to do intentionally is make myself look even shorter. I am here to tell you that it’s all about the shoes. No matter how tall you are, nude or lucite shoes will elongate the appearance of your legs. Another reason to take the plunge on one of the season’s hottest trends. Remember, they don’t have to lace up!

The Shine Your Way pleated midi skirt cascades like a waterfall. You cannot help but feel majestic
while wearing it. Jonathan calls it my mermaid skirt, and that is quite alright with me. Aside from the metallic blue sheen, I love the fullness and elastic side-zip waist band. Skirts are not always comfortable to wear but this one is. I dressed it simply with black accents. This black crop top has come in handy with most of my high waist garments. Looking for every occasion to show off the earrings Jonathan gifted me for fashion week, I pulled my up in a high bun.

I cannot speak for you, but I am not good at primping my own hair. Thankfully Kristin is available when I need her to save the day. I have always admired full “sock buns” but I have never been able to create one myself. I once tried cutting the toes off of an old pair of socks, and making my own donut. After failing at that craft, I purchased a legitimate hair donut and still could not get it right. Leave it to my first friend in life (you know who you are) to introduce me to the Hot Buns hair tool. What a game changer! Simply put, it is a sock bun maker for dummies. Now my favorite earrings of all time can receive the attention they deserve!

What I learned at New York Fashion Week

Last week was New York Fashion Week and if you watch my Instagram stories, then you know I had the honor and privilege of attending a handful of runway shows and presentations. It is amazing that there is an entire week for fashion fanatics like me to connect and learn. I sat front row (pinch me!) at Michael Costello and Pamela Rolland’s shows and saw Club Monaco’s spring collection up close and personal. To say I picked up a “thing or two” is an understatement! Below is my springtime fashion forecast.

Do not let anyone tell you that feathers are out of style. In all honesty, the more fluff the better! Feathers are all over the runway in so many shapes and sizes and I love it. I have been a fan of feathers since I first dressed myself in them around age four! I think there is even a photo to prove it.

Jumpsuits remain hot items for the spring. From bell bottom, culotte, formal, and sequin, onesies are not going anywhere. The ivory and lace jumpsuits debuted during Michael Costello’s show were incredible. Mark my words…I will rock a similar version including the fro. Can my hair do that, Kristin?!

Sweeping garments are hotter than ever. Consequently, capes, caftans, and trains flood the NY fashion scene. I am a cape lady so this trend is a-ok with me. Pamela Rolland hit the nail on the head mixing all of the above with timeless pieces.
