This week we are honoring the life of the late Nancy Reagan, former First Lady. In addition to her likable personality, it has come to my attention that she was quite the fashion icon. After doing some research, it reminded me how cyclical fashion truly is. I hope this write up featuring some of Mrs. Reagan’s best looks is demonstrative of that.
Mrs. Reagan stunned at a presidential dinner in 1988 wearing a lace dress. The scalloped neckline and fine lace details are simply perfect. Evidently red was one of her favorite colors and she sure wore it well! I admire how she styled the dress with chunky gold jewelry, as I am a firm believer in the phrase, “less is more.” Fast forward to 2016 lace is everywhere, but today’s take on this classic material is a sheer and lace combo. The Paradise Luxe Ivory Lace Maxi Dress and the Date Night Lace Dress are great examples of this trend.
In the late 1960’s former First Lady, Nancy Reagan, was photographed in a sweet navy and white collared dress. Although pictured while seated, I have a feeling this little number was the ever popular trapeze silhouette! I love the preppy print and the cap sleeves. Today, retro fashions are hotter than ever, and I am just one of many to swoon over them. Clothing designers like Jules Reid and Gretchen Scott have capitalized on these preppy prints with styles such as the Everywhere Jersey Dress and The Dean Peace maxi dress.
The fabulous Mr. and Mrs. Reagan, pictured below, while on the “campaign trail” again looking polished and chic in a pink gingham dress suit. I adore the white purse and dainty strand of pearls. In this day and age we refer to such styles as matching separates or two-piece sets, and they are taking over the shelves at all of our favorite retailers. One of which is this darling check cropped top and skirt set. If you want to replicate this look with a little 2016 flavor, purchase this and thank me later.
