Midi Skirt for the Petite Woman

After swooning over all of the stars’ special occasion gowns, last night during the Oscar’s, I decided it was finally time to break out my first midi dress. In the past I would avoid this length skirt at all costs, but with full skirts of all lengths making a comeback, I decided to give it a try.     If you are on the petite side, midi skirts can be a little bit tricky. We are already blessed with short legs, so we tend to compensate by wearing garments that give off an elongated appearance (jumpsuits, high-waisted pants, “sky high” high heels, etc.). That is why it is very important to make sure your midi skirt hits at mid-calf…even if it means a trip to the tailor! Before styling the dress below, I had it shortened about 3.5 inches. Once you’ve arrived at the appropriate length, try pairing your midi with nude shoes – they do a great job lengthening your legs.   I highly recommend a fitted top when styling a full midi skirt. That is why I was drawn to the “Lead a Charmed Life Midi Dress.” Featuring a fitted bodice, spaghetti straps, and open back design, feel […]

2015 Oscars Best Dressed List

With the 87th Academy Awards in the books, I cannot help but comment on a few of my favorite red carpet looks! Here are my top five:   1. Rosamund Pike stunned in a strapless hot number by Givenchy. This red lace dress featured a scalloped neckline, matching belt at the waist, and a high slit. The fit and flare silhouette was ultra flattering for her figure, and the color couldn’t have been more perfect against her fair skin. The classic up-do, simple earrings and delicate sandals were just right.   2. Gwyneth Paltrow was pretty in pink wearing a Ralph & Russo mermaid gown – it fit like a glove. This dress featured a one-shoulder neckline, long sleeve, and a very dramatic flower on the left shoulder. Although not much skin was exposed, her fit frame sure was. The pulled back hair and dangle earrings were just enough.   3. Reese Witherspoon’s dress by Tom Ford is the epitome of class. This timeless black and white a-line ensemble featured an elegant off-the-shoulder neckline, and a matching black belt – synching the waistline. Reese’s polished hairstyle and glitzy stud earrings tied things together nicely.   4. Scarlett Johansson killed it […]

Chic Boho

I don’t know about you, but I am the worst when it comes to buying tops. For whatever reason, I am more likely to leave the store with a pair of pants, a dress, or a funky jacket, versus a top or two. So when I do get with the program and actually purchase one, I make sure it is versatile. When I came across this shirt, I was immediately drawn to it. First of all, the color is super easy to match with – you might as well call it a neutral. Second of all, its boxy silhouette lends itself to pair nicely with any jean style whether or not they’re full length or shorts. Third of all, I love the chic boho design – I have a thing for fringe these days, but lace fringe takes it to a whole new level!   I first styled the “I. Madeline Pearly Dewdrops Drop Light Peach Top” with dark boyfriend jeans. Wanting this look to be happy hour appropriate, I wore a pair of bedazzled chandelier earrings, a metallic clutch and woven heels. If you want to keep it casual, simply exchange the earrings for some gold studs, sling on […]

Dinner is Served: Get it While it’s Hot

If you’re already putting forth the effort and preparing a delicious meal, you might as well show it off to its potential. Save the paper plates for another night, and serve your concoction in these beautiful food warmers. Crafted out of copper, included is an oven-proof glass dish, and matching lid. Easily move your food from the oven to the table – effortlessly dressing up your dining room, and keeping your grub warm at the same time.   Featuring two tea light holders, you’ll be surprised how much heat those suckers actually emit. When used as directed these elegant dishes will keep your food as hot as your standard chafing dish, but will look much prettier while doing it. Attractive and low maintenance. Need I say more?! Who wants to worry about burning the house down with sterno after prepping a midweek meal? That’s what makes these dishes great for everyday use and for special occasions. Seriously though, about an hour after serving the pasta, the cheese was still sizzling when I removed the lid at cleanup. Speaking of, the glass liners are dishwasher safe – pop them in with the rest of your plates and utensils.   Available in […]

Wishlist Wednesday: Free People Movement

Being a lululemon brat, and accustomed to their fine fabrics, it is hard for me to go out of the box when it comes to activewear. But when my BFF sent me the link for these new items, I was immediately ooh-ing and aww-ing over ’em. If you’re looking to add some variation to your exercise garb, do it with a pair of “Mantra Leggings” and a matching sports bra. Brought to you by Free People and Onzie yoga wear, these printed garments will have heads turnin’!   The perfect combo of boho and class, exercise in style in these hot pants. Just when you thought tribal print side panels were enough, they add black and white contrasting stripes along the ankle. But don’t let their boldness intimidate you. You can always tone them down a notch with a plain black t-shirt or white tank.     If you’re sporting the bottoms, you might as well go all out and buy and the matching top! Called the “Chic Bra,” for obvious reasons, wear it solo or pair it with a racerback shirt – you’ll want to show off the strappy back detail. Exercising is more fun when you’re in fashionable attire.
