Classic Colors Don’t Have to be Boring!

I often dismiss classic colors as “boring.” However, some of my favorite looks are solid black. How’s that for a double entendre?! This outfit, for instance, received the most attention during New York Fashion Week. It goes to show you that classic colors really aren’t that boring after all…they just have to be “done” right! Hear me out. Dimension One of the easiet ways to take your classic ensemble to the next level is to create dimension! Consider mixing black and white stripes with black and white polka dots. But if mixed prints freak you out, dabble with different textures instead. Think tulle and leather, or leather and lace. Catch my drift?! Accessories A black dress is like a blank canvas. It literally matches with everything. Cease the opportunity to think big. I’ll be the first to admit that this outfit would not be half as interesting without the earrings. Wish List Wednesday: Retro Romper

This week’s rendition of Wish List Wednesday consists of styles that are hot off of the runway, starring this retro romper! I’ve had my eye on this hot item since before I left for NYFW. I guess that means it is time to buy it! I am a lover of color and these crisp fall hues are speaking to me. One of my favorite shows in the Big Apple was that of Leanne Marshall. Her color combinations are out of the ordinary. If you are wondering where my inspiration comes from, this is it! Catch a glimpse of the best show of the year (in my opinion!) below. Another style I am itching to get into are platforms. Again, they dominated the runway and may save you a trip to the tailor. Score! Tinsel Fringe Jacket

I love fashion because it is a form of silent expression. You can tell a lot about a person based on the clothing that they are wearing. If there is one item in my closet that perfectly describes my personality, it is this tinsel fringe jacket! In five words this jacket is: bubbly, confident, happy, energetic, and daring. I am a naturally bubbly person. It’s the reason I’m always smiling in my blog pics. I look so STRANGE with a serious face…that is probably why I nervously laugh in serious situations (guilty!). To me, happy is the only way to be, and I’m the happiest when I like my outfit. I choose to be confident and daring. My mom would tell you I mastered these skills on the field hockey field, but it carries over to the ensembles I wear. NYFW in an Off The Shoulder Maxi Dress

New York Fashion Week is: glamorous, exhausting, educational, and sometimes painful, but at the end of the day it is SO much fun! It is glamorous because everyone dresses to IMPRESS. It’s exhausting because it’s several consecutive days of “performing” and primping. It’s educational because you are learning about the upcoming trends. And if you’re wearing the wrong shoes, it can literally be painful. But despite the good, the bad, and the ugly, there is no better way to network with colleagues and brands in the fashion industry! I find it so much fun to meet the face behind the @ symbol. You know that girl you’ve been following for months (maybe even years) that you just know you’d connect with. The people watching is also very entertaining. Just when you think you nailed it with your outfit, someone walks by in the most incredible ensemble that you’ve ever seen. Then there are those that leave you wondering…people go to great lengths to get their picture taken by street photographers! New York Fashion Week Day One: BaubleBar HQ

That’s a wrap! My third consecutive fashion week is one for the books. It’s safe to say third time is a charm. Technically, New York Fashion Week goes until Wednesday, but it is time for me to get “back to life back to reality.” From day one my schedule was jam packed with events and I loved every minute of it. It never ceases to amaze me that there is a week designed just for fashionistas like me. And let me tell you, there are a lot of them! The highlights of my day were shooting blog pics with Laurel Creative and visiting Baublebar HQ! If you’ve been following me for a while, then you know that I never leave the house without jewelry. It was an unforgettable experience getting to meet the team face-to-face. The office was chic and inviting and obviously the baubles were fantastic. Fashion Forecast: Color is the new black. Tassels, drop earrings, and pom poms of nearly every hue are in style and ready to wear. On the other end of the spectrum, it’s still fashionable to mix dainty strands with your statement pieces.
