What to Wear to Sol Food: Bay Area Puerto Rican Cuisine

Now that you know about my favorite Puerto Rican cuisine in San Francisco, it’s time to discuss what to wear to Sol Food. The setting is very casual. Sharing is caring at this Latin American cafetería and I’m not talking about the food. Prepare to dine at a communal table or along side an unfamiliar face at the counter or bar. But don’t think twice about it. By the time you take your first bite you’ll be “over it.”     Sol Food is located in Mill Valley in Marin County. Keep in mind that the temperature rises five to 10 degrees as soon as you cross the Golden Gate Bridge. Err on the side of caution and dress in laters. Open for business 10-9pm on the weekdays and 9-9pm on the weekends, patrons frequent the joint in an array of outfits. Some in workout clothes, scrubs, business attire, or play clothes. When I’m not in shorts, I’m in boyfriend jeans and a graphic tee.     You already know I overdress. What can I say, I am most confident when I like my outfit! Snag these striped shorts quick because they are only $14.90 and will go like hot […]

Bay Area Puerto Rican Cuisine

My fascination with food began at an early age. In the early 90’s I lived in Puerto Rico. Sunday was my favorite day of the week but not because it was the weekend, rather because of the food! It became tradition to chow down on traditional Puerto Rican cuisine every Sunday at lunchtime. Even at a young age I learned to appreciate the rice and beans and wondered what was the secret ingredient that made them so decadent?! Aside from arroz y habichuelas, other memorable items include: rotisserie chicken, plantains, and cubanos. Fast-forward roughly 25 years and here we are in San Francisco continuing the Sunday Funday Fooday tradition!   Introducing Sol Food, the Bay Area’s premier Puerto Rican cafetería. Just a 10 minute jaunt over the Golden Gate Bridge, sits your new favorite lunch spot. I can honestly say this is the best Puerto Rican cuisine you’ll find on the mainland. But don’t take my word for it, experience it for yourself, the line and all!   The Plantains Confession: I am a plantain-aholic…I wish I was kidding! Sol Food has taken my addiction to a whole new level offering both sweet and savory options. Inka whaaaat? While the […]

Shopbop Sale Picks: Get Vacation Ready

There is no better time to shop springtime essentials (and non-essentials!) than during the Shopbop sale! It doesn’t happen often, but now through the 14th, take 20% off your order of $500 or less and 25% off your order of $500 or more with promo code EVENT17. This is not a drill! I have done my best to round up my favorite Shopbop sale picks and most of the items will end up being under $100 once the discount is applied. Enjoy and happy shopping!   Everyday Wear I’ve said it once, and I am saying it again; stock up on shirts while they are on sale. It is so easy to gravitate towards dresses and skirts but tops are extremely versatile. 1 reminds me of vacation! The hues are so happy and the bubble sleeves are so 2017. You already know my stance on cropped denim so consider 4 a wardrobe staple. Free People apparel doesn’t go on sale often. Take advantage of it while you can.     Swimwear Bikinis are a thing of the past. The one-piece is the new two-piece and I’m ok with it. How about this hot little peplum suit (9)?! I never new […]

Festival Fashion for the Edgy Chic

Whether or not you’re a music fest junkie, festival fashion is something that you should familiarize yourself with. A couple of weeks ago, Nancy (the girl boss behind Current Clothing – my fav SF boutique) and I were reminiscing about February’s New York Fashion Week. We laughed as I described my bell bottoms transforming from orange to orange ombré in a matter of minutes. It snowed 10+ inches and the bottoms of my pants were SOAKED! It’s hard to dress to impress in the dead of winter. Props to the New York fashionistas. That is when she said, “skip NYFW and go to Coachella!” While I have never been to the famous fest, I have admired it from a far on Instagram. She’s right, the festival fashion is on another level! I might just have to give it a whirl.     Nancy went on to tell me that brands and showrooms have designated product lines for Coachella. Gone are the days where people are out Easter dress shopping. In California, at least, it is all about the latest and greatest in festival fashion!     So what exactly is festival fashion? It is a cross between bohemian and sexy. […]

Pizza Party: What to Wear to Tony’s Pizza Napoletana

Now that you know what to order from Tony’s Pizzeria Napoletana, it’s time we discuss the proper attire for a pizza party (duh)! The ambiance is definitely casual, but anything goes. Just make sure you have room for a food baby!     Tony’s is another one of those restaurants that is equally tasty as it is chill. With both tourists and locals frequenting the joint, you can probably imagine the diversity in outfits! Although dining inside is a quintessential San Francisco experience, I never pass up the opportunity to sit outside with GG…plus the patio has heaters. Score!     It was 72 degrees last weekend – no heaters needed. Shorts weather is few and far between in San Francisco so I bronzed my legs in a pair of cutoff shorts. If you remember anything from this post, make it this: wear pants/shorts that stretch when you dine at Tony’s! This outfit is pretty glamorous for a pizza party, but fancy is my middle name.     I dressed these shorts with a black cami and topped ’em with a sheer embroidered top. The open front kimono is making a comeback for spring 2017 and I’m loving it. They […]
