Road Trip to Tuscany

Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving! Just in case you are looking for some light reading in between your turkey binge, carry on. After our first full day in Florence, we rented a quintessential Italian car, the Fiat 500 (duh!), and set off on a road trip to Tuscany. We stopped for an al fresco lunch in the historic city of Siena, then departed shortly after to wine country. We were amazed with how much the Chianti Region resembled Napa Valley. Grape vines and quant wineries lined the winding roads.     When we finally arrived at Castello Di Verrazzano (a 1000 year old castle) we were hungry and thirsty. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here – the staff was so friendly and hospitable! Both the sips and bites exceeded our expectations. Don’t you love when that happens?! Also known for their production of olive oil and balsamic vinegar, we purchased a couple of bottles for tonight’s big dinner. Tip: When choosing a Chianti Classico, look for the black rooster label. Think of it as a “good housekeeping” seal of approval.     Two bowls of pasta, and a wine tasting later, we hit the road stopping for photos before sunset. […]

Eating Through Florence – Guide to a Tasty Vaca

Eating through Florence…is there anything better?! Below are a few restaurant picks that have my mouthwatering just reminiscing about them!   Comfort Food If you’re on a proper Italian holiday, you’ve probably visited more than one Italian city and eaten your fair share of pasta and bread. For a delicious break from the carb overload, head to Harry’s Bar for All-American comfort food. Positioned right across from the river and minutes from Ponte Vecchio, the burger will not disappointment you after a busy day of sightseeing. Bonus: The assortment of wine and spirits is very impressive and the bartender discusses your options table-side. He makes a mean martini.     Gelato Oh Em Gee! Never have I ever eaten a more delectable frozen dessert than the gelato at La Carraia! The hazelnut flavor literally tasted like spoonfuls of Nutella straight out of the jar – my ULTIMATE guilty pleasure. Whoa! It wasn’t until after I devoured my sugar cone that I noticed they also serve chocolate hazelnut and yogurt and Nutella flavors. Jonathan thoroughly enjoyed pistachio cream while we admired the very spoiled privileged Italian pups scarf down some vanilla. No joke! Other notable flavors include: Salted Peanut Butter, Mango, […]

Velvet Flare Pants in Florence

Grazie for following along on my Italian Holiday! Although I am missing the European ambiance, San Francisco is not a bad place to return home to. Today I am sharing with you one of many looks I rocked during my time in Florence, featuring this pair of velvet flare pants.     Tuesday afternoon we set out for a tour of the Uffizi Museum. If you’re fond of art, add this exhibit to your bucket list. There are over 10,000 works of Renaissance Art in the museum. A guide is encouraged because it is easy to get “lost” in the endless halls of artwork and you do not want to miss a Michelangelo painting! Anyway, I do not do well in cold temperatures, so I packed expecting the worse. After all the hype, the weather there was not much different than the weather at home. I got off easy…     A flower child at heart, I take advantage of every opportunity I get to wear 1970’s fashions. When I came across these velvet flare pants from Forever 21, I knew they would be perfect for a day of exploring Firenze. Velvet is a toasty fabric and quite comfortable too. […]

What’s in my Beauty Bag

I am often questioned about my makeup regime, so I put together this guide featuring four products that are ALWAYS in my beauty bag. What are you favorites? I would love to hear!   Skin Flawless skin is a blessing. Fortunately, 24/7 “smooth” skin is attainable with the right foundation and powders. For the past several months, I have been using Ashley Seivert’s Mineral Velvet Creme Foundation with the Mineral Finishing Velvet Powder and I have never been happier. I used to avoid liquid foundation like the plague. This stuff is light but still provides the full coverage that you would expect out of liquid foundation. After applying “LA” all over my face, I use Glow under eye brightener to conceal my infamous dark circles. Aside from relieving me of my biggest insecurity, Glow is also my eye primer, and highlighter of choice. Read more about these products here.     Brush Finding the right face makeup is just the first step in perfecting your makeup and skincare regime. I must admit, I used to use my fingers to apply my makeup (gross) before switching to a beautyblender, and various other brush sets. The blendSMART rotating brush has won my […]
